본문: 여호수아 10:1-43

제목: 하나님의 은혜와 그분의 뜻을 바로 알고 행하자!

    하나님께서는 여호수아로 하여금 기브온에서 승리하게 하시고, 아모리인들의 다섯 왕, 즉 예루살렘 왕, 헤브론 왕, 야르뭇 왕, 라키스 왕, 에글론 왕과 그의 군대들을 완전히 살륙하셨다. 이 얼마나 참담하고 잔인한 일인가? 이스라엘과 화친한 기브온 사람들을 위하여 여호수아와 모든 군대들과 모든 힘 센 용사들이 길갈로부터 기브온으로 올라갔다. 하나님께서는 돌덩이만한 우박을 내리시어 그들을 이스라엘 앞에서 큰 살육으로 죽이셨다. 우박덩이에 죽은 자가 이스라엘 자손이 칼로 죽인 자보다 더 많았다. 심지어는 그들을 모두 살육하기 위하여 여호수아가 태양을 향하여 기브온 위에 머무르고, 달은 아얄론 골짜기에 머무르라고 하였을 때 해와 달이 순종했다. 이 사실이 이스라엘의 승전 기록인 야셀의 책에 기록되었다.

     유다의 히스기야 왕 때 죽을 병이 들린 그를 살려주시고 그에게 십오 년의 연수를 더해 주신 증거로 태양이 십 도나 되돌아가게 하셨다 (사 38:1-8). 하나님께서 이스라엘을 향하여 말씀하셨다:“ 내 오른손이 하늘들을 폈나니 내가 그들을 부르면 그들이 함께 일어서느니라.”(사 48:13)

그렇다! 천지만물들은 창조주 만군의 하나님의 말씀에 무조건 복종하는 것이다. 빛이 있으라 하셨을 때 빛이 있었고, 해와 달을 포함하여 모든 만물이 그분께서 말씀하셨을 때 바로 생겨났으니 해와 달이 잠깐 서고 뒤로 물러나는 것이야말로 아무 것도 아닌 것이다. 문제는 우리의 믿음인 것이다. 주님께서는 “인자가 올 때 그가 세상에서 믿음을 찾아볼 수 있겠느냐?”(눅 18:8)라고 말씀하셨다.

     아직도 영적으로 어린 사람들은 “하나님은 사랑이시다””모든 사람은 하나님의 아들들이다.”라고 외치면서 자위하고 있다. 그렇다! 그분은 물론 사랑이시다. 그러나 그분의 사랑을 받아들이는 사람에게만 사랑이신 것이다. 막케디와 립나와 라키스와 에글론과 드빌과 산지와 남쪽과 계곡과 샘들의 모든 지역과 카데스바네아에서 가자와 고센의 모든 지역에 이르기까지 주께서 그 성읍과 그 왕들을 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨주셨을 때, 여호수아가 칼날로 그 성읍들과 그 안에 있는 모든 사람들을 쳐서 한 사람도 남기지 아니하였다. 아이들이 무슨 죄가 있겠는가? 왜 하나님께서는 모든 사람을 무차별하게 죽이셨는가? 하나님의 말씀을 통하여 그분의 뜻이 무엇인지 깨닫지 못한다면 아무도 설명할 수 없을 것이다.

     하나님께서는 첫 사람이 범죄하여 죄와 사망이 이 땅에 들어온 후 약 천 년이 지났을 때 사람의 사악함이 세상에 창대해 짐과 그 마음의 생각의 모든 상상이 계속해서 악할 뿐임을 보시고 땅 위에 사람을 지으셨음을 후회하셨으며, 그 일이 하나님의 마음을 비통케 하였다 (창 6:5-6). 결국 하나님께서는 자신이 창조하신 사람을 지면에서 멸망시시며, 사람과 짐승과 기는 것과 공중의 새들까지 모두 함께 멸망시킬 계획을 하셨다. 그 당시 주의 눈에서 은혜를 찾았던 노아의 가족만을 제외하셨던 것이다. 하나님께서는 하나님의 은혜를 찾는 사람들로 하여금 땅에 번성하기를 원하시는 것이다. 첫 사람 아담에게 “다산하고 번성하여 땅을 다시 채우고 그것을 정복하라. 그리고 바다의 고기와 공중의 새와 땅 위에서 움직이는 모든 생물을 다스리라.”(창 1:28)고 명령하셨다. 뿐만 아니라 노아의 가족들 외에 모든 사람들을 멸망시킨 후에 다시 하나님께서는 노아와 그의 이들들에게 복을 주시며 그들에게도 말씀하시기를 “다산하고 번성하여 땅을 다시 채우라.”(창 9:1)고 동일한 명령을 하셨다.

     그러나 그후에도 인간들은 또 하나님의 뜻을 저버리고 실패하고 말았다. 그들이 말하기를 “가서 우리를 위하여 도성과 탑을 세우되 탑 꼭대기가 하늘에 닿도록 하여 우리의 이름을 내자. 그리하여 우리가 온 지면에 멀리 흩어지지 않게 하자.”(창 11:4) 하면서 하나님의 뜻에 거역하였다.  하나님께서는 셈을 택하시고 셈의 자손 중에서 아브라함을 택하시고 그를 부르시면서 죄악이 관영한 고향과 친족과 아비집을 떠나라고 명령하셨다. 그에게도 축복을 주셨다 “내가 너로 큰 민족을 이루게 할 것이며 네게 복을 주고 네 이름을 위대하게 하리니, 너는 복이 되리라. 너를 축복하는 자들에게 내가 복을 주고 너를 저주하는 자를 저주하리라. 네 안에서 땅의 모든 족속들이 복을 받을 것이라.”(창 12:2-3) 이 축복의 언약을 이스마엘이 아닌 이삭에게, 에서가 아닌 야곱에게, 또한 야곱의 아들들 중에서 유다지파를 택하셨다:

“또 그가 요셉의 장막을 거절하시고 에프라임 지파를 택하지 아니하시고 다만 유다 지파, 곧 그가 사랑하시는 시온 산만을 택하시어 그의 성소를 높은 궁전같이, 그가 영원히 세우신 땅같이 지으셨도다.”(시 78:67-68)

마침내 유다 지파로부터 하나님의 독생자이신 주 예수 그리스도가 나타나신 것이다. 모든 아담의 자손들은 죄를 지었으므로 하나님의 영광에 이를 수 없었다 (롬 3:23). 아담의 모습으로 이 땅에 나타나신 거룩하신 하나님이시며 죄가 없는 완전한 사람이신 그분을 통하여 하늘과 땅에 살 사람들을 일으키시려 계획하신 것이다. 첫째 사람이 실패한 것을 둘째 사람이신 그리스도를 통하여 그분의 뜻을 이루시기를 원하셨으며 그리스도를 마지막 아담이라 부르신 것이다:

“’첫 사람 아담은 살아 있는 혼이 되었느니라.’함과 같이 마지막 아담은 살려주는 영이 되었느니라. 그러나 영적인 몸이 먼저가 아니요, 타고난 몸이며 그 다음은 영적인 몸이라. 첫째 사람은 땅에서 나서 흙으로 만들어졌으나 둘째 사람은 하늘에서 나신 주시니라.”(고전 15:45-47)

     때가 차서 그리스도께서 산자와 죽은 자들을 심판하러 오실 때에 그분을 믿지 않는 모든 사람들을 무차별하게 심판하실 것이다. 본문에서 거룩하게 된 이스라엘의 남은 자들을 이끄는 여호수아를 통하여 할례받지 않고 우상을 섬기는 모든 민족들을 칼날로 죽이신 것처럼 여호수아보다 더 위대하신 주 예수 그리스도께서도 아버지 하나님으로 부터 온 땅을 받으시고 동일한 심판을 행하실 것이다:

“내가 나의 거룩한 산 시온 위에 내 왕을 세웠도다…너는 내 아들이라. 오늘 내가 너를 낳았노라. 내게 구하라. 그러면 내가 너에게 이방을 네 유업으로, 땅의 맨 끝을 네 소유로 주리라. 네가 그들을 철장으로 깨뜨맇 것이며, 토기장이의 질그릇같이 산산이 부수리라.”(시 2:6-9)

“또 하늘에 있는 군대들이 희고 정결한 세마포를 입고 흰 말들을 타고 그들 따르더라. 그의 입에서는 예리한 칼이 나와서 그것으로 민족들을 칠 것이며, 그는 전능하신 하나님의 맹렬한 진노의 포도즙틀을 밟으실 것이라. 또 그의 옷과 넓적다리에 이름이 기록되어 있는데 ‘만왕의 왕, 또 만주의 주’라 하였더라.”(계 19:14-16)

     진정 우리가 받은 은혜가 얼마나 큰가? 주의 이름으로 화친을 맺고 조약을 맺은 기브온 사람들을 끝까지 지키기 위하여 태양과 달을 멈추게 한 여호수아처럼, 그리스도의 피를 믿음으로 하나님과 화친하고 언약을 맺은 하나님의 자녀들을 끝까지 지켜주시고 구원하시는  하나님의 사랑에 어찌 아니 감사드리지 않겠는가? 우리 모두는 창녀 라합의 가족들과 기브온 사람들처럼 은혜를 입은 사람들이다. 이 은혜를 절대로 잊지 말고 이 은혜의 복음을 주께서 오실 때까지 전해야 할 것이다. 사도 바울은 그리스도 예수 안에서 약속하신 하나님의 사랑에 대하여 증거했다:

“내가 확신하노니 사망이나 생명이나, 천사들이나 정사들이나 권세들이나 현재의 일들이나 다가올 일들이나, 높음이나 깊음이나, 어떤 다른 피조물이라도 우리를 그리스도 예수 우리 주 안에 있는 하나님의 사랑에서 떼어놓을 수 없으리라.”(롬 8:38-39)

우리는 그의 약속대로 의가 거하는 새 하늘과들과 새 땅을 기다리는 축복을 받았다(벧후 3:13). 할렐루야!

Meditation: Psalms 122;1-8

Subject: Walk by knowing the grace of God and his will

     The LORD God made Joshua win the victory at Gibeon; and let him smite the five kings of the Amorties, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon with all their hosts completely. What a miserable and cruel thing it is!  Joshua ascended from Gilgal unto Gibeon with all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour to help the people of Gibeon that made peace with Joshua. The LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon the enemies, and smote them all. They were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword. Even then Joshua said in the sight of Israel, Sun stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon; and they obeyed him. This was written in the book of Jasher that is the record of victory of Israel.

     Hezekiah, the king of Judah was sick unto death; the LORD added unto his day fifteen years, when he beseeched the LORD. The LORD gave a sign to him making the Sun returned ten degrees (Isa 38:1-8). The LORD God spoke unto the Israel:

^“13Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.”(Isa 48:13)

Yes! All things in heaven and earth obey the word of the Creator God of Hosts without any condition. When he said, let there be light: and there was light right away. It is piece of cake for him to make the Sun and the Moon stand still for a moment, and makes the Sun return a little bit. The issue is our faith. Therefore the Lord Jesus said: “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”(Luke 18:18)

      Still so many spiritual babies are crying out and comfort themselves saying, “God is love.” “All men are the children of God.” Of course, God is love; but he is love only for them that receive his love. When the LORD delivered  Makkedah, Libnah, Lachish, Eglon, Debir, the country of hill and springs, Kadeshbarnea, Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, Joshua utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining. What about innocent babies and children? Why the LORD destroyed all men therein to death not leaving any one of them? No one could explain the reason why he did it, unless he understands the will of God.

     When it came to pass about thousand years, since God the first man sinned against God bringing forth sin and death to the earth, God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart (Gen. 6:5-6).  Finally, he decided to destroy man whom he had created from the face of the earth; both man and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air. At that time, only Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD; and he and his family were saved. The LORD God wants them that find the grace from him to be multiplied on the earth. The LORD asked Adam, the first man,

“Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”(Gen. 1:28)  After the LORD destroyed all men in the flood, he blessed Noah and his sons saying, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.”(Gen. 9:1)

      But men had failed to obey the will of God, but against the LORD thereafter. They said, “Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”(Gen. 11:4)

     The LORD chose Shem and Abram out of the seed of Shem, and called him and asked him to get out of his country, and from his kindred, and from his father’s house whish was sinful. The LORD also blessed him saying,

“ ²And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:  ³And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. “(Gen. 12:2-3)

God gave the covenant of blessing continually to Isaac, not to Ishmael; to Jacob, not to Esau; and he had chosen the tribe of Judah out of the sons of Jacob: “⁶⁷Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim: ⁶⁸But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved. “(Ps 78:67-68)

Finally, the Lord Jesus Christ appeared out of the tribe of Judah. All the children of Adam sinned; and they could not reached unto the glory of God (Rom 3:23) The LORD predestined the plan to raise men to live in heaven and earth through the Lord Jesus Christ that manifested in flesh as the Holy God and perfect man of no sin. God wanted to do his will through the second man called also as the last Adam, for the first man failed:  “ ⁴⁵And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. ⁴⁶Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. ⁴⁷The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. “(1Cor. 15:45-47)

     When Christ comes to the earth to judge the quick and dead, he shall judge them that not believed on him smiting and destroying. As Joshua and the remnant of Israel smote all the nations with the sword that were not circumcised and worshipping idols, the Lord Jesus Christ shall receive the whole earth and do the same judgment as Joshua:   

“⁶Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. ⁷I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.  ⁸Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.  ⁹Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.”(Ps 2:6-9)

   “¹⁴And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.  ¹⁵And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. ¹⁶And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”(Rev. 19:14-16)

     What a great grace have we received? As Joshua protected Gibeon that made piece and a league in the name of the LORD even making the Sun and the Moon stand still, we have to give thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ which protects us eternally just because we made peace and league through the blood of Christ. All of us receive the grace of God same as the family of Rahab and the people of Gibeon. We cannot forget such a great grace, and have to preach the gospel of grace until he comes. Apostle Paul testified of the love of God promised in Christ Jesus:   

“³⁸For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, ³⁹Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”(Rom. 8:38-39)
