금주의 묵상: 시편 32;1-11

본문: 로마서 4;1-8

제목: 구원에 이르는 믿음

     사도 바울은 에베소교회 성도들에게 편지할 때, “너희가 믿음으로 말미암아 은혜로 구원을 받았으니 이것이 너희에게 난 것이 아니요, 하나님의 선물이라. 행위에서 난 것이 아니니 아무도 자랑하지 못하게 하려 하심이라.”(엡 2:8,9)고 예수 그리스도께서 우리의 죄들을 위하여 십자가에서 죽으시고 부활하신 후에 복음을 믿음으로 받는 구원에 대하여 증거했다.

     또한 사도바울은 사람들이 구원받는 과정에 대하여 “그분께서는 미리 아신 자들을 자기 아들의 형상과 일치하게 하시려고 또한 예정하셨으니 이는 그를 많은 형제 가운데 첫 태생이 되게 하려 하심이니라, 그리하여 예정하신 이들을 또한 부르시고 부르신 이들을 또한 의롭게 하시고 의롭게 하신 이들을 또한 영화롭게 하셨느니라.”(롬 8:29, 30)고 증거했다.

     성령께서는 사도 바울을 통하여 하나님께서 의롭게 여기시는 믿음, 즉 죄인들이 죄용서함을 받고 의로워짐으로써 구원받는 믿음에 대하여 아브라함의 예를 들어 말씀하고 있다:

“만일 아브라함이 행위로써 의롭게 되었다면 그에게 자랑할 것이 있겠지만 하나님 앞에서는 없느니라. 성경이 무엇이라고 말하고 있느냐? 아브라함이 하나님을 믿었더니 그것이 그에게 의로 여겨졌느니라. 이제 일하는 사람에게는 그 보수가 은혜로 여겨지지 않고 빚으로 여겨지지만, 행함이 없어도 불경건한 자를 의롭다 하시는 그 분을 믿는 사람에게는 그의 믿음이 의로 여겨지느니라.”(롬 4;2-5)

     아브라함이 늙어서 자식이 한 사람도 없는 상태에서 하나님께서 그를 밖으로 데리고 나가 말씀하셨다: “이제 하늘을 쳐다보고 별들을 셀 수 있다면 그 별들을 세어 보아라….너의 씨가 이와 같으리라.”(창 15:5) 이때에 아브람이 주를 믿으니 주께서 그것을 그에게 의로 여기셨다. “의”라 함은 모든 죄들을 용서받았다는 뜻이다. 다시 말해서 이제 죄가 없어졌다는 것이다. 그리고 그에게 유업을 주셨다.

     그의 아들 이삭이 장성하였을 때, 하나님께서 아브람을 시험하시려고 다시 부르셨다. 하나님께서 그에게 말씀하시기를  “네 아들, 곧 네가 사랑하는 네 독자 이삭을 이제 데리고 모리아 땅으로 가서, 산들 중에서 내가 네게 일러 줄 한 산에서 그를 번제로 드리라.” (창 22:2) 하셨다 마침내 아브람이 순종하여 아들 이삭을 죽이려고 했을 때, 하나님께서 말씀하셨다: “네 손을 아이에게 대지 말고 아무 일도 그에게 하지 말라. 네가 네 아들, 네 독자라도 내게 아끼지 아니하였으니, 나는 이제 네가 하나님을 두려워하는 줄을 아노라.”(창 22:12)

     사도 야고보는 이에 대하여 증거하기를, “우리의 조상 아브라함이 자기 아들 이삭을 제단에 드렸을 때, 그가 행함으로 의롭게 되지 아니하였느냐? 믿음이 어떻게 그 행함과 더불어 작용하였으며, 믿음이 행함으로 온전케 되었음을 네가 보느냐? 그리하여 ‘아브라함이 하나님을 믿으니 그것이 그에게 의로 여겨졌느니라.’는 성경이 이루어졌고, 그는 하나님의 친구라 불렸느니라. 이제 너희가 알거니와 사람이 행함으로써 의롭게 되는 것이 요, 믿음으로만 되는 것이 아니니라.”(약 2:21-24)

     그러나 야고보의 증거는 구약시대에 하나님을 믿어 의롭게 되는 것에 대한 말씀이며 신약시대에 의롭게 되는 믿음과는 다른 것이다. 그러나  믿음의 본질은 둘다 같은 것이라 할 수 있다. 사도 바울은 히브리인들에게 편지할 때 아브라함이 독자 이삭을 제단에 드릴 때 의롭게 된 것이 대하여 증거했다: “믿음으로 아브라함은 시험을 받을 때 이삭을 제물로 드렸으니, 그 약속들을 받은 자가 그의 독생자를 드린 것이라. 그에 관하여 말씀하시기를 ‘네 씨라 불릴 자는 이삭에게서 난자라.’ 하셨으니 그는 하나님께서 죽은 자들로부터 그를 살리실 수 있으리라고 생각하였음이라. 이로써 그는 모형으로 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 받은 것이라.”(히 11:17-19)

그렇다! 아브라함이 그의 독자 이삭을 제단에 드린 것은 그가 하나님을 믿었기 때문에 나타난 믿음의 행위였던 것이다. 자신을 의롭게 하기 위한 어떤 행위가 아니었다. 다시 말해서 믿음의 열매였던 것이다.

     믿음으로 의롭게 되어 구원받을 신약 성도들에 대하여 사도 바울은 “네가 네 입으로 주 예수를 시인하고 또 하나님께서 그를 죽은 자들로부터 살리신 것을 네 마음에 믿으면 구원을 받으리라. 이는 사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고 입으로 고백하여 구원에 이르기 때문이라. 성경이 말씀하시기를 ‘그를 믿는 자는 누구나 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라..’ 고 하였느니라. 유대인과 헬라인 사이에 차별이 없으니 이는 만민에게 동일하신 주께서 그를 부르는 모든 사람에게 부요하심이라. 주의 이름을 부르는 자는 누구나 구원을 받으리라. 그런즉 그들이 믿지 아니한 이를 어찌부르리요?…..”(롬 10:9-14) 라고 증거했다.

     그러므로 사도 바울은 믿고 구원받을 복음에 대하여 고린도교회 성도들에게 분명하게 증거했다: “형제들아, 내가 너희에게 전한 복음을 이제 너희로 알게 하노니 이는 너희가 받았고 그 안에서 선 것이라. 만일 너희가 내가 전한 복음을 굳게 잡고 헛되이 믿지 아니하였다면 복음을 통하여 너희도 구원을 받은 것이라. 내가 받은 것을 먼저 너희에게 전달하였나니 이는 성경대로 그리스도께서 우리의 죄들로 인하여 죽으시고 장사되셨다가 성경대로 셋째 날에 다시 살아나셔서 게바에게 보이시고 그후에 열두 사도에게 보이신 것이라.”(고전 15:1-5)

다시 말해서 “하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하셔서 그의 독생자를 주셨으니 이는 그를 믿는 사람은 누구든지 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이라.”(요 3:16)는 하나님의 말씀을 믿는 자들이 의롭게 될 것을 말씀하신 것이다.

     또한 사도 바울은 이 복음을 그리스도의 복음이라 말하면서 “내가 그리스도의 복음을 부끄러워하지 아니하노니 이는 이 복음이 믿는 모든 사람을 구원에 이르게 하는 하나님의 능력이 됨이라. 첫째는 유대인에게요, 또한 헬라인에게로다. 이 복음 안에는 믿음에서 믿음에 이르게 하는 하나님의 의가 계시되었으니 기록된 바 ‘의인은 믿음으로 말미암이 살리라.’함과 같으니라.”(롬 1:1617)고 증거했다.

     여기에서 구원이라 함은 크게 세 가지로 말할 수 있다: 첫째는 혼이 죄로 인한 지옥의 형벌로부터의 구원이며, 둘째는 죄의 습관과 죄의 능력으로부터 받는 구원이며, 셋째는 죄의 몸을 벗고 부활하여 그리스도를 만날 때 그분의 형상으로 변화되어 죄가 임재하는 세상으로부터 구원받는 것을 말하는 것이다.

     그리스도께서 십자가에서 피흘려 죽으시고 부활하시어 성령을 보내주신 오순절 이후에는 어떤 사람에게도 아브라함을 시험하셨던 것처럼 의롭게 되기 위하여 어떤 행위도 요구하시지 않는 것이다. 아브람이 하나님을 마음으로 믿었을 때에는 그에게 어떤 믿음의 표적도 나타나지 않았으나 이삭을 바칠 때에 그 믿음의 표적이 나타났다. 그러나 신약시대에 주 예수 그리스도를 마음으로 믿고 입으로 고백하는 자들에게는 성령께서 들어가셔서 영이 거듭나는 표적이 나타나는 것이다. 이로 인하여 사도 바울은 고린도교회 성도들에게 자신이 진정으로 믿었는지 시험해 보라고 권면한 것이다: “너희가 믿음 안에 있는지 너희 자신을 시험하고 스스로 입증하라. 예수 그리스도께서 너희 안에 게신 것을 스스로 알지 못하느냐 그렇지 못하면 너희는 버림받은 자들이라.”(고후 13:5)

     진정한 믿음으로 거듭난 사람들에게도 아브라함과 같은 표적이 나타나는 것이다: “그가 소망이 없는 가운데서 믿었으니 ‘네 씨가 그렇게 되리라.’고 말씀하신 대로 많은 민족들의 아비가 되게 하려 하심이라. 그가 믿음이 약해지지 아니하여 약 백살이 되고서도 자기 몸이 이제 죽은 것으로 생각지 아니하였느니라. 그는 믿음 없음으로 인하여 하나님의 약속을 의심하지 아니하였고 오히려 믿음이 견고하여져서 하나님께 영광을 돌리며 약속하신 그것을 또한 이루실 것이라고 확신하였느니라. 그러므로 그에게는 믿음이 의로 여겨졌느니라.”(롬 4:18-22)

       사도 바울은 아브라함의 믿음의 예를 거울삼아 신약시대에 의롭게 되는 믿음에 대하여 증거했다: “이제 그에게 의로 여겨졌다고 기록된 것은 아브라함만을 위한 것이 아니요, 의롭다고 여김을 받을 우리들 때문이기도 하니 곧 예수 우리 주를 죽은 자들로부터 살리신 그분을 믿는 자들이라. 예수께서는  우리의 범죄함을 인하여 드려지셨고 우리의 의롭게 하심을 위하여 다시 일으켜지셨느니라.”(롬 4:23-25)

     그렇다! 진실로 주 예수 그리스도를 믿는 자들에게는 믿음의 행위가 성령의 열매로 나타나는 것이다. 미움 대신에 사랑, 슬픔 대신에 기쁨, 두려움 대신에 화평, 분노 대신에 오래참음, 불화 대신에 친절, 악한 마음 대신에 선함, 불신 대신에 믿음, 성질 대신에 온유, 남용 대신에 절제가 나타나는 것이다. 절제 안에는 술이나 담배 등 믿기 전의 모든 구습들이 포함되는 것이다. 이에 대하여 사도 야고보는 아브라함의 믿음에 대하여 증거할 때 “믿음이 어떻게 그 행함과 더불어 작용하였으며, 믿음이 행함으로 온전케 되었음을 네가 보았느냐?… 영이 없는 몸이 죽은 것같이 행함이 없는 믿음도 죽은 것이니라.”(약 2:22,26)고 증거한 것이다.

     예수님께서도 믿음 없는 고백의 위험에 대하여 “나에게 ‘주여, 주여.’ 하고 부르는 자마다 다 천국에 들어가는 것이 아니요, 하늘에 계신 나의 아버지의 뜻을 행하는 자라야 되느니라.. 이 백성이 입으로는 나에게 다가오고, 또 입술는 나를 공경하여도 그들의 마음은 내게서 멀도다. 사람들의 게명들을 교리들로 가르치니, 그들이 나를 헛되이 경배하는도다.”(마 7:21, 15:8,9,)고 말씀하셨으며 거짓 교사들에 대하여 “거짓 선지자들을 조심하라. 그들은 양의 옷을 입고 너희에게 나아오나 속은 약탈하는 이리들이라. 너희는 그들의 열매로 그들을 알게 되리니, 사람이 가시나무에서 포도를, 또 엉겅퀴에서 무화과를 거둘 수 있겠느냐?”(마 7:15,16) 라고 말씀하시면서 구원받지 못한 종교인들에 대하여 경고하셨다.

     주님께서 마지막 때에 살고 있는 사람들의 믿음에 대하여 말씀하셨다: “그러나 인자가 올때 그가 세상에서 믿음을 찾아볼 수 있겠느냐?”(눅 18:8) 그렇다! 마지막 때를 살아가고 있는 우리들은 나 하나만이라도 믿음 안에 거하기 위하여 인내하여야 할 것이다. 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 32:1-11

Main scripture: Romans 4:1-8

Subject: Faith unto salvation

     Apostle Paul testified of the salvation receiving through faith in the gospel since Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, and rose again in the epistle to the saints of Ephesians: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”(Eph. 2:8, 9)

     He also testified of the procedures of salvation: “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”(Rom. 8:29, 30)

     The Holy Ghost testified through Apostle Paul of the faith imputed as righteousness by God; in other word, the faith unto salvation for sinners through forgiveness of sins and righteousness, taking an example of Abraham: “For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”(Rom. 4:2-5)

     When Abram was old enough without any child, the LORD God took him to outside said to him: “Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.”(Gen. 15:5)

Then he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. “Righteousness” means forgiveness of all sins; in other word, he has no sin at all. Thereafter God gave him an inheritance.

     When Isaac, his son became a young man, God called him again to tempt Abraham; and he said, “Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”(Gen. 22:2)

When Abraham was going to kill Isaac, God spoke to him: “Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.”(Gen. 22:12)

     Apostle James testified of this: “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.”(James 2:21-24)

     But the testimony of James was regarding to the righteousness by faith in God in the Old Testament; it is different from the righteousness by faith in the New Testament. But both of them must be same in nature. Apostle Paul wrote an epistle to the Hebrews about the righteousness of Abraham when he brought Isaac to the alter: “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.”(Heb. 11:17-19)

Yea! His obedience unto God was because of his faith in God as the result of his faith. It was not impute him righteous; in other was it was the fruit of faith.

     Apostle Paul testified of the saints in New Testament to be saved through righteousness by faith: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. ⁰For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?….”(Rom. 10:9-14)

     Apostle Paul testified of the gospel giving salvation through faith unto the saints of Corinthians very clearly: “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: “(1Cor. 15:1-5)

In other word, whosoever believes God that said, “For God so love the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”(John 3:16) shall be righteous.

     Apostle Paul called it the gospel of Christ, and testified of it: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”(Rom. 1:16, 17)

     Here the salvation can be classified into three parts in sequence: Firstly, it is the salvation of soul from punishment in hell because of sin; Secondly, salvation from habits of sins and the power of sin; Thirdly, salvation from the presence of sin when we put off the body of sin to resurrect to be changed into the image of Christ when we meet the Lord.

     Since the day of Pentecost after Christ died on the cross shedding his blood and the Holy Ghost was sent to the earth, God never asks ay work to be righteous as he tempted Abraham. When Abram believed God in his heart, any sign faith appeared not to him; but it appeared when he brought Isaac to the altar. But now in the day of New Testament, whosoever believes in Jesus Christ in his heart and confesses by mouth receives the sign of faith in his spirit that is regeneration of the spirit. Therefore Apostle Paul encourages the saints of Corinthians to test their faith whether it was real or not: “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”(2Cor. 15:3)

     For the real believers, there shall be the same signs as Abraham as follows: “Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.”(Rom. 4:18-22)

     Apostle Paul testified of the faith to be righteous in the days of New Testament taking an example of Abraham: “Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”(Rom. 4:23-25)

     Yea! The true believers of Jesus Christ bring forth the work of faith through the fruit of the Spirit: Love instead of hatred, Joy instead of sorrow, peace instead of fear, longsuffering instead of fury, gentleness instead of disagreement, goodness instead of wickedness, faith instead of disbelief, meekness instead of evil thought, temperance instead of abuse.

Apostle James testified of the faith of Abraham: “Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?….For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”(James 2:22, 26)

     Jesus testified of the danger of profession without faith: ^“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven….This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. “(Matt. 7:21, 15:8, 9)

     Of the false teachers, he also testified to give warning toward religious leaders without salvation: “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?”(Matt. 7:15, 16)

     Lord Jesus prophesied of the faith in the last days:

“Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”(Luke 18:8)

Yea! We have to endure to abide in faith even in loneliness. Amen! Hallelujah!
