금주의 묵상: 시편 12:1-8

본문: 로마서 1:16-17

제목:  죄인을 그리스도의 신부로 만들 수 있는 복음의 능력

     사도 바울은 그리스도의 복음을 부끄러워하지 않는다고 고백하고 있다. 그 이유에 대하여 이 복음이 믿는 모든 사람을 구원에 이르게 하는 하나님의 능력이라고 증거하고 있다. 또한 이 그리스도의 복음은 첫째는 유대인에게며, 그 다음은 헬라인, 즉 모든 이방인들이라고 증거했다.

     “그리스도”라는 말은 기름부음받은 자를 말하며 선지자와 제사장과 왕의 직분을 가진 자를 말한다. 또한 본문에서 그리스도란 유대인들이 기다리는 메시야이며 그는 앞으로 이스라엘 백성에게 오셔서 그들을 구원하시고 다윗의 보좌에 앉아 영원무궁토록 통치하실 만왕의 왕이시요 만주의 주이신 예수님에 대하여 증거하고 있는 것이다. 그러나 사도 바울이 예수를 증거할 때는 아직까지 대부분의 유대인들은 예수님을 그들의 메시야, 즉 그들의 그리스도로 영접하지 않았다. 그러나 그리스도의 복음은 여전히 유대인들에게 먼저 전해져야 한다고 말하고 있는 것이다. 그 당시에 예수가 그리스도 즉 유대인의 메시야라고 말하면 부끄러운 일일뿐만 아니라 유대인들에게 돌에 맞을 짓이지만 그는 예수님이 그들의 메시야로서 그들에게 구원을 주시는 분이심을 확신하였던 것이다. 또한 모든 이방인들도 예수 그리스도를 믿어야만 구원을 받을 수 있음을 분명하고 확실하게 증거하고 있는 것이다.

     사도 바울은 그리스도의 복음을 믿는 모든 사람들을 구원하는 능력은 그 자신이 주는 능력이 아니라 하나님께서 직접 주시는 능력임을 증거하고 있다. 다시 말해서 그리스도의 복음을 전할 때 그 복음의 메세지를 믿는 모든 사람을 하나님께서 구원하신다는 것이다. 이로 인하여 사도 바울은 고린도 교회 성도들에게 주의 성만찬에 대하여 증거할 때에 “너희가 이 빵을 먹고 이 잔을 마실 때마다 주(그리스도이신 예수님)의 죽으심을 선포하는 것이라.”(고전 11:26)고 증거한 것이다. 다시 말해서 그리스도이신 주 예수께서 우리의 죄들로 인하여 죽으셨음을 구원받지 못한 사람들에게 일방적으로 선포하라는 것이다. 다시 말해서 사람이 알아듣도록 설명하지 말고 하나님께 그 영혼을 맡기고 죽어있는 영혼을 향해 일방적으로 선포하라는 것이다.

     사도 바울은 인간의 지혜로로는 알 수 없는 그리스도에 관하여 고린도교회 성도들에게 분명하게 선포했다: “형제들아, 내가 너희에게 와서 하나님의 증거를 전할 때에 말과 지혜의 탁월함으로 하지 아니하였노라. 이는 내가 예수 그리스도와 그의 십자가에 못박힌 것 외에는 아무 것도 알지 않기로 작정하였음이라. 내가 너희와 함께 있을 때에 연약함과 두려움과 심한 떨림 가운데 있었노라. 또 내 말과 내 설교를 설득력 있는 인간의 지혜의 말로 하지 않고 성령과 능력을 나타냄으로 하였으니 이는 너희의 믿음이 인간의 지혜에 있게 하지 아니하고 하나님의 능력에 있게 하려 함이라.”(고전 2:1-5)

     그렇다면, 구원이란 무엇인가? 또한 구원을 받으면 어떻게 되는 것인가? 사도 베드로는 그리스도를 믿어서  받는 구원에 대하여 증거했다:

“너희가 그를 보지 못하였으나 사랑하며, 지금도 그를 보지 못하나 믿고 있으며, 또 말할 수 없이 영광으로 가득 찬 기쁨으로 즐거워하나니 이는 믿음의 결과, 곧 너희 혼들의 구원을 받음이니라.”(벧전 1:8,9)

사도 베드로는 구원을 받아야 하는 주체가 바로 사람의 혼이라는 것을 분명하게 증거한 것이다. 세상 모든 철학이나 과학이나 세상에서 기르치며 주장하는 구원은 육신이 사는 날까지 육신이 질병으로부터, 가난으로부터, 불행으로부터  구원받아야 하는 것들이다. 세상사람들은 그들의 본체가 혼인 것을 알지 못하기 때문이다. 그들은 육신이 당하는 모든 문제들, 즉 질병이나 저주나 죽음 등 모든 문제들이 혼의 문제임을 알지 못하기 때문이다. 또한 그 이유는 하나님의 말씀을 무시하고 믿지 않기 때문에 자신이 누구인지도 알지 못하는 것이다. 어떤 철학자는 평생 동안 “너 자신을 알라.”고 사람들에게 가르쳤지만 그 자신도 자신을 알지 못한채 비참하게 족어갔던 것이다. 그는 그 자신이 누구이며 무엇인지 알려고 했지만 하나님의 말씀을 알고 믿지를 못했기 때문에 죄와 사망과 저주 아래 있는 그 자신의 혼을 알지 못했던 것이다. 하나님께서는 사람들을 향하여 사람들 자신이 누구인지에 대하여 명확하게 말씀하셨다:“주 하나님께서 땅의 흙으로 사람을 지으시고 그의 콧구멍에다 생명의 호흡을 불어넣으시니, 사람이 살아있는 혼이 되었더라.”(창 2:7)

그렇다! 모든 사람의 본체는 흙으로 지어진 집인 육신 안에 있는 살아있는 혼이라는 것이다. 또한 사람의 콧구멍에다 생명의 호흡을 불어넣으신 것은 생명이신 하나님을 찾을 수 있도록 하기 위하여 사람의 혼 안에 영을 창조하신 것이다. 하나님이 성부, 성자, 성령의 세 신격이 하나가 되신 삼위일체 하나님이 되신 것처럼 사람을 창조하실 때에 자신의 형상과 모양을 따라 영,혼,육 세 가지가 하나로 되도록 창조하신 것이다. 하나님께서 첫 사람을 창조하실 때 있었던 일에 대하여 성경은 분명하게 증거하고 있다:

“하나님께서 말씀하시기를 ‘우리가 우리의 형상대로 우리의 모습을 따라 사람을 만들자. 그리하여 그들로 바다의 고기와 공중의 새와 가축과 모든 땅과 땅 위를 기어다니는 모든 기는 것을 다스리게 하자.’고 하시니라. 그리하여 하나님께서 자신의 형상대로 사람을 창조하셨으니, 곧 하나님의 형상대로 그를 창조하셨으며 그들을 남자와 여자로 창조하셨으니라.”(창 1:26,27)

     만일 평생을 “너 자신을 알라!”고 가르치던 그 철학자가 이 하나님의 말씀을 믿었다면 그 자신이 누구인지, 또 어떤 상태에 있는지 알았을 것이며  바로 그 하나님이 육신으로 나타나신 창조주이신 예수 그리스도이심을 알게 되어 그분을 믿음으로써 그 자신의 혼을 구원하였을 것이다.  사도 바울이 살아있었을 때 그는 많은 헬라 스토아 철학자들에게 복음을 전했지만 그들은 사도 바울은 말쟁이라고 몰아부치며 믿지 않았던 것이다 (행 17:18).

     사도 바울은 왜 사람들이 그리스도이신 예수님을 믿어야 하는지, 그리고 왜 그리스도인신 예수께서 모든 사람들의 죄를 위하여 죽으셔야 했는지, 그리고 혼의 구원을 위하여 왜 그리스도의 죽으심과 부활하심을 믿어야 하는 지에 대하여 증거했다: “형제들아, (내가 율법을 아는 자들에게 말하노니 율법은 그가 살아 있는 동안에만 그 사람을 주관하는 것을 알지 못하느냐? 남편이 있는 여인은 그 남편이 살아있는 한 그에게 법으로 매여 있으나 남편이 죽으면 그녀는 그 남편의 법에서 벗어나느니라. 그러므로 남편이 살아있는 동안에 다른 남자와 혼인하면 간음한 여인이라 불리지만 그녀의 남편이 죽으면 그 법에서 해방되므로 다른 남자와 혼인하더라도 간음한 여인이 아니니라. 나의 형제들아, 이런 연유로 너희도 그리스도의 몸으로 인하여 율법에는 죽었나니 이는 너희로 다른 사람, 즉 죽은자들로부터 일으켜지신 그와 혼인하게 하려는 것이요, 그리하여 우리로 하나님께 열매를 맺게 하려는 것이라. 이는 우리가 육신 안에 있었을 때에는 죄들의 정욕이 율법을 통하여 우리의 지체 속에서 역사하여 사망에 이르는 열매를 맺었으니 이제는 우리가 붙잡았던 것에서 죽었으므로 율법에서부터 구제되었음이니 우리가 영의 새로움으로 섬길 것이요, 법문의 낡은 것으로 섬기지 아니할 것이라.”(롬 7:1-6)

     다시 말해서 그리스도의 복음은 사람의 혼이 율법으로 인하여 죄인이 되었고 그 죄값으로 사망에 이르게 되었을 뿐만 아니라 혼이 죽지 않기 때문에 영원토록 율법의 저주 아래에서 생명의 하나님과 분리되어 살아야 하는 것을 깨닫게 하는 것이다. 그런데 이는 어떤 사람의 설득력 있는 말로 되는 것이 아니라 그리스도의 죽으심을 선포할 때 성령의 능력을 통하여 죄인으로 하여금 그 자신이 영원히 비참한 저주 아래 있음을 깨닫게 하여 그리스도를 믿는 길밖에 다른 어떤 길도 없음을 알게 되는 것이다. 이로 인하여 예수 그리스도께서는 자신에 대하여 “나는 길이요 진리요 생명이라. 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 사람이 아무도 없느니라.”(요 14:6)고 말씀하셨다.

     다시 말해서 율법으로 인하여 사망에 처한 죄인이 자신을 알게 되면 율법으로부터 구원받아 자유하는 길은 자신이 죽는 길밖에 없는 것을 알게 되며 이 진리를 알게 될 때 자기 대신에 자신의 죄를 위하여 십자가에서 죽으신 예수 그리스도를 믿어 그의 죽으심이 자신의 죽음으로 인정받는 길밖에 없는 것을 알게 되는 것이다. 이러한 진리를 깨닫게 하는 것은 어떤 사람의 지혜의 말로 되는 것이 아니라 성령과 능력의 나타남으로서만 가능한 것이다. 그러므로 사도 바울은 자신의 지혜의 말로 사람을 설득하려하지 않고 성령께서 친히 역사하시도록 하기 위하여 두려움으로 떨었다고 증거하고 있는 것이다. 다시 말해서 자신의 잘못으로 인아여 죄인들이 구원받지 못하고 종교인으로 전락하는 것을 두려워한 것이다.

     그러므로 믿음을 통하여 그리스도와 함께 십자가에서 함께 죽었다고 여기시는 하나님을 믿을 때에 율법으로부터 해방되어 그의 혼이 의롭게 되며 성령을 통하여 영원한 생명을 받아 그의 영이 다시 살아나게 되어 사망에서 생명으로 옮겨지게 되어 하나님과 화목하게 되는 것이다. 그때부터 다시 하나님의 형상으로 변화되는 성회에 이르게 되어 하나님의 영광 가운데 거하며 하나님과 동행하다가 그리스도께서 오실 때에 그분의 모습으로 변화되어 그와 혼인하게 되는 것이다.

     그러므로 사도 바울은 구원받은 로마에 있는 성도들에게 간곡하게 부탁했다:“ 우리가 이것을 아나니 곧 우리 옛 사람이 그와 함께 십자가에 못박힌 것은 죄의 몸을 멸하여 더 이상 우리가 죄에게 종노릇 하지 않게 하기 위함이니라. 이는 죽은 자가 죄로부터 자유롭게 되었기 때문이라. 이제 우리가 그와 함께 죽었으면 또한 그와 함께 살 줄을 믿으며 그리스도께서 죽은자들로부터 일으켜지셔서 다시는 죽지 아니하시고 사망이 더 이상 그를 주관하지 못하는 줄 우리가 아노라. 그가 죽으심은 죄에게 단번에 죽으심이요, 그가 사심은 하나님께 사심이라. 이와같이 너희도 너희 자신을 정녕 죄에게는 죽은 자요, 예수 그리스도 우리 주로 말미암아 하나님께는 산 자로 여기라. 그러므로 너희는 죄가 너희 죽을 몸 안에서 군림하지 못하게 하여 몸의 정욕 가운데 죄에게 순종하지 말고 다만 너희 지체를 불의의 병기로 죄에게 내어주지 말고 다만 너희 자신을 죽은자들로부터 살아난 자들처럼 하나님께 드리며 너희 지체를 의의 병기로 하나님께 드리라. 죄가 너희를 주관하지 못하리니 이는 너희가 율법 아래 있지 아니하고 은혜 아래 있기 때문이라.”(롬 6:6-14)

     그렇다! 구원에 대하여 우리가 할 일이 있고 하나님께서 성령과 능력을 통하여 하시는 일이 있는 것이다. 어느누구도 죄와 사망에 처한 죄인들을 종교인으로 만들 수는 있어도 그를 죄와 사망으로부터 구원할 수 없는 것이다. 우리는 다만 그리스도의 죽으심과 부활하심만을 선포하면 되는 것이다. 이때에 성령께서 죄에 대하여 책망하시게 되어 예수 그리스도를 믿지 않는 것이 죄라는 것(요 16:9)을 깨닫게 하시는 것이다.  아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 12:1-8

Main scripture: Romans 1:16-17

Subject: The power of the gospel that can make sinners be the bride of Christ

     Apostle Paul was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believes. And the gospel of Christ is to the Jew first, and also to the Greek that represent all the Gentiles.

     “Christ” means the Anointed that has the job of prophet, priest and king. In the main passage, “Christ” means the Messiah that has been waited by the Jew as well as Jesus Christ, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords that is going to save the Israel and to sit on the throne of David to reign forever. When Apostle Paul was testifying of Jesus, almost all Jews did not receive Jesus as their Messiah, the Christ. But still the gospel of Christ should be preached to the Jew first. At that time, it was the shameful thing for one that insisted Jesus the Messiah of the Jew; and also it was in danger of being stoned to death. But Apostle Paul confirmed Jesus Christ as their Messiah that could give them salvation. He also testified very clearly, even all the Gentiles should believe on him for their salvation.

     Apostle Paul testified of the power of God that can give the salvation for them that believe, not his power at all. In other word, when the gospel is preached, God save all of them that believe. Therefore Apostle Paul testified of the Lord’s Supper to the saints of Corinthians: “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.”(1Cor. 11:26)

In other word, He was asking them to proclaim the death of the Lord Jesus Christ for us unto the sinners. To proclaim means not to explain about so that they may understand, but to trust in the Lord God putting them in the hand of God, and to proclaim unto the dead souls.

     Apostle Paul testified of Christ that cannot be understood by the wisdom of man to the saints of Corinthians: “And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. “(1Cor. 2:1-5)

     Then, what is the salvation? And what is going to happen after salvation? Apostle Peter testified of the salvation through faith in Christ: “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”(1Pet. 1:8, 9)

Apostle Peter testified of the soul of man that should be saved very clearly. All kinds of philosophy, science, and all other teaching in the world teach the deliverance from diseases, poverty and all other problems to make their life happy until death. They don’t understand that their identity is the soul, not their body. They don’t know that all the problems such as diseases, curses and death are related to the issue of their soul, for they ignore the word of God so that they don’t know themselves. A philosopher spent his whole life to teach people to “Know thyself.” But even he himself couldn’t know what he was, and died miserably at the end. Even though he tried to know what he was, he couldn’t see his soul under sin and death and curses, for he was ignorant of the word of God so that he couldn’t believe in God. The LORD God spoke to men very clearly of what they are:

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”(Gen. 2:7)

     Yea! The main being of man is the living soul dwelling in the body of man that is made of dust of the ground. And God breathed the spirit of life into the nostrils of man to create the spirit within him so that he may be able to find God for himself. As God is the trinity of Godheads as the Father, the Son and the Spirit, God created man that has spirit, soul and body in one. The scripture testifies of the creation of the first man: “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”(Gen. 1:26, 27)

     If the philosopher that taught to know thyself had believed in the word of God, he could have known what he was, and what kind of situation he was in, so that he might have known Jesus Christ, the creator that was manifested in flesh to save his soul by faith. Apostle Paul preaches the gospel unto many Greek stoic philosophers; but they never believe in the gospel but rather blamed Paul as a babbler (Acts 17:18)

     Apostle Paul testified the reason why people have to believe on Jesus, and why Christ Jesus had to die for the sins of all men, and why they should believe in the death of Christ and resurrection for their salvation: “Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.”(Rom. 7:1-6)

     In other word, the gospel of Christ give understand unto sinners that the soul of man is under sin because of the law of God; and the wage of sin is death; the destiny of sinners is living forever being separated from God under the curse of the law, for the soul of man is living for ever. But this kind of understanding cannot be made through any kind of enticing word of man’s wisdom, but through the power of the Holy Ghost. In other word, when the death is proclaimed unto sinners, they finally understand themselves under eternally miserable curses knowing the only way of salvation is to believe in Christ. Jesus Christ testified of himself:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”(John 14:6)

     In other word, when the sinner under curses because of the law of God know of himself, he finally understand himself, it is the only way for him to die to be free from the law for salvation. And when he understands this truth, he is to believe in Jesus Christ that died for him, because Jesus Christ died on behalf of him so that God recognize the death of Christ as his death to make him free from the law. No one can understand this truth through the word of man’s wisdom at all, but it is only possible through the manifestation of the Spirit and power. Therefore Apostle Paul never tried to persuade people with the word of his wisdom, but he was trembling so that the Holy Ghost Himself works for salvation. He was trembling, because sinners could be ended up with being religious ones not be converted for salvation.

     Therefore when we believe in God that recognize the death with Christ through faith, we are free from the law to be the soul justified; and to receive the eternal life through the Holy Ghost; and the spirit to be born again; and the soul to be moved from death unto life; and to be reconciled with God. Thereafter, the soul is to be sanctified unto the image of God; and to be dwelling in the glory of God walking with God to be married to Christ when he comes being changed as his likeness.

     Therefore Apostle Paul encourage the saints in Rome sincerely: “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”(Rom. 6:6-14)

     Yea! For salvation, we have to work together with God; we have to preach the gospel; and God works through his Spirit and power. No one can have the power of salvation from sin and death, even though man’s wisdom could make sinners as religious ones. We only have to preach the death and resurrection of Christ. Then the Holy Ghost reprove of sin so that sinners may understand that they are sinners because they don’t believe on Jesus Christ (John 16:9)
