금주의 묵상: 시편 32:1-11

본문: 마태복음 16:24-17:9

제목: 사람이 자기 혼을 무엇과 바꾸겠느냐?

        태초에 말씀으로 계셨고, 하나님 아버지와 함께 계시면서 모든 만물들을 만드시고 여섯째 날에 하나님의 형상대로 사람을 살아있는 혼으로 만드셨다. 또한 그  혼이 몸을 입고 하나님의 호흡인 영을 가지고 자신의 영을 통하여 영이신 하나님과 교통할 수있도록 만드셨다.  그 창조주께서 육신을 입으시고 유대인들에게 나타나셔서 말씀하시는 광경을 우리는 본문을 통하여 본다. 또한 이 말씀은 유대인 뿐만 아니라 오늘날 그분을 믿고 그분을 따라간다는 그리스도인 제자들에게도 주시는 말씀인 것이다.

       주님의 말씀 속에 들어있는 아주 중요한 메세지는 사람의 몸 안에 거하는 혼이 그 사람의 본체라는 말씀이다. 많은 철학자들과 종교인들이 "자아"(self)가 과연 어떤 것인지에 관해서 많은 연구를 해 왔지만 그 아무도 그 해답을 주지 못하고 세상을 떠났다. 어떤 철학자는 "네 자신을 알라!"(Know thyself!)고 평생을 가르쳤지만 그 자신도 자신을 모르고 떠날 수밖에 없었다. 그 해답을 주실 수 있는 분은 단 한 분 하나님밖에 없기 때문이다. 사람을 만드신 분외에 그 어느 누가 사람의 혼에 대하여 알고 말할 수 있겠는가?

       "누구든지 자기 생명을 구하고자 하면 잃을 것이요, 누구든지 자기 생명을 잃으면 얻으리라."(마 16:25)는 말씀은 육신만을 위하여 사는 사람에게는 말도 안되는 소리처럼 들릴 것이다. 그러나 예수님께서 본문에서 말씀하시는 "생명"은 잠간 있다 호흡이 끊어지면 죽을 육신의 목숨을 말씀하시는 것이며, 두 번째로 "생명"을 얻으리라는 말씀은 그야말로 그의 혼이 영원한 생명을 얻을 것을 말씀하시는 것이다. 하나님께서 사람에게 하시는 말씀들이 사람의 어느 부분에게 하시는 말씀인지 분별하여야 하는 바, 하나님의 영이 없으면 하나님의 말씀을 알아들을 수 없는 법이다.

       또한 온 세상을 얻었다는 것은 그 육신이 세상에서 육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 생의 자랑을 모두 누리는 사람을 말하며, 그러나 정작 자신의 혼, 즉 자신을 잃어버린다면 아무 유익이 없다는 말씀이 아니겠는가? 예수님께서 사랑하시는 제자인 사도 요한은 이 말씀을 깨닫고 어린 그리스도인들에게 당부하고 이 세상을 떠났다: "세상도, 세상에 있는 것들도 사랑하지 말라. 누구든지 세상을 사랑하면 아버지를 사랑함이 그 안에 있지 아니하니 이는 세상에 있는 모든 것이 육신의 정욕과 안목의 장욕과 생의 자랑이요, 아버지께 속한 것이 아니라 세상에 속한 것이기 때문이라. 세상도, 세상의 정욕도 사라지지만 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 자는 영원히 거하느니라."(요일 2:15-17)

        사람이라면 자신을 만드신 분을 따르는 것이 당연한 일이 아니겠는가? 주님께서 무리한 요구를 하신다고 생각하는가? 주님께서 자신을 따라오려면 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 따르라는 말씀이 부담이 되는가? 정히 그것이 어렵다면 지금 자신이 따르고 있는 존재가 하나님이 아닌 세상 신이라고 불리는 존재이기 때문인지 깊히 생각해 보아야 할 것이다. 그러면서도 그 사실을 알 수 없는 것은 하나님께서 주신 영이 죄로 인하여 죽어있기 때문에 자신을 창조하신 하나님을 볼 수 없기 때문이며, 예수님 당시에 하나님께서 육신을 입으시고 나타나셔서 그렇게 많은 말씀을 하시고 많은 기적들을 통하여 자신이 창조주이심을 나타내셨지만 사람들의 영이 죽어있어서 그분을 알아보지 못하고 오히려 그분을 십자가에 못박았던 것이다.

      예수께서 "내가 심판을 위하여 이 세상에 왔으니, 이는 보지 못하는 자들을 보게 하고 보는 자들을 소경되게 하려 함이라."(요 9:39)고 말씀하셨을 때, 주와 함께 있던 바리새인 몇 사람이 이 말씀을 듣고 "우리도 소경이란 말인가?" 라고 했을 때, 주님께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를 "만일 너희가 소경이라면 죄가 없을 것이나 이제 너희가 말하기를 '우리는 본다.'고 함으로 너희 죄가 남아 있느니라."고 하셨다.

       이 말씀은 차라리 그들이 육신의 눈이 멀었더라면 고침받은 소경들처럼 주님 앞에 나와 주님의 음성을 듣고 그분이 하나님이심을 믿음으로써 그들의 죄들을 용서받고 그들의 혼을 구원할 수 있었겠지만, 바리새인들은 육신의 눈을 뜨고서도 영적인 소경들이 되어 주님을 믿지 않았기에 그들의 죄가 그대로 남아있게 되었으니 그들의 혼을 지옥으로부터 구원하지 못하게 된 것을 말씀하신 것이다. 그러나 그들은 그 말씀이 무슨 뜻인지 알 수 없었다.

       주님께서 구원받지 못한 혼들이 가야만 하는 지옥에 대하여 엄중하게 경고하셨다:

"네 손이 너를 실족케 하거든 잘라 버리라. 두 손을 가지고 결코 꺼지지 않는 불 속인 지옥에 들어가는 것보다 불구자로 생명에 들어가는 것이 더 나으니라. 네 발이 너를 실족케 하거든 잘라버리라. 두 발을 가지고 결코 꺼지지 않는 불 속인 지옥에 던져지는 것보다 절름발이로 생명에 들어가는 것이 더 나으니라. 그곳에는 그들의 벌레도 죽지 않고, 불도 꺼지지 아니하느니라. 네 눈이 너를 실족케 하거든 뽑아버리라. 두 눈을 가지고 지옥불에 던져지는 것보다는 한 눈으로 하나님의 나라에 들어가는 것이 더 나으니라. 그곳에는 그들의 벌레도 죽지 않고, 불도 꺼지지 아니하느니라. 모든 사람이 불로 소금치듯함을 받을 것이며, 모든 제물이 소금치듯함을 받으리라. 소금은 좋은 것이라. 그러나 소금이 맛을 잃으면무엇으로 맛을 내리요? 너희 안에 소금을 두고 서로 화목하라."(막 9:43-50)

        주님께서 지옥에 던져지는 것이 사람의 어떤 부분을 말씀하시는 것인가? 몸인가? 아니면 다른 부분인가? 몸이 죽으면 삼일만 지나면 썩게되고 수년만 지나면 육신의 모든 원소들이 분해되어 뼈만 남았다가 그 뼈마져도 없어진다는 것은 초등학생들도 다 아는 사실이다. 주님께서는 죽은 후에 지옥가는 부분이 사람의 어떤 부분인가를 말씀하시기 위하여 누기복은 16장에서 부자와 거지 나사로의 예를 통하여 부자가 지옥 불 속에서 고통을 받는 장면을 자세하게 설명하셨다. 부자의 몸은 이미 썩었지만 그 사람이 지옥에서 고통받는 중에 눈을 들어 아브라함의 품인 낙원에 있는 나사로를 보았다. 또 그가 소리질러 말도 했으며, 물로 자신의 혀를 적셔달라고 말하면서 그가 불꽃 가운데서 고통을 받는 다고 애원했다. 어떻게 죽은 사람이 고통을 받으며, 눈이 있고 혀가 있고 감각이 있단 말인가? 바로 이 부자는 본문에서 주님께서 말씀하신 바와 같이 그의 육신은 온 세상을 다 얻었지만 자신의 혼을 잃어버린 자가 된 것이다. 이 말씀들을 통하여 사람의 혼도 육신처럼 모든 지체들이 있다는 것을 알 수 있는 것이다 (눅 16:19-26). 그 어느 누가 이 진리를 말할 수 있단 말인가? 오직 창조주 하나님밖에 없는 것이다. 문제는 그분의 말씀을 믿느냐, 믿지 않느냐의 문제이지만 그 결과는 자신이 영원히 책임져야 하는 일인 것이다. 하나님께서 에덴 동산에서 첫 사람에게 자유 의지를 주신 것처럼 지금도 모든 사람들에게 자유 의지를 주셨다. 그러나 믿든지 안믿든지 자신의 의지를 사용하여 행한 대로 그 결과는 자신이 책임져야 하는 것이다.

      우리 모두를 포함하여 세상 모든 사람들은 이미 손과 발과 눈으로 죄를 지는 자들이다. 사도 바울은 이것을 깨닫고 "이는 모든 사람이 죄를 지었으므로 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하다가…"(롬 3:23)라고 선포하였다. 그리고 그는 계속해서 유일한 죄의 처방에 대하여 "그리스도 예수 안에 있는 구속을 통하여 그의 은혜로 값었이 의롭게 되었음이;라. 하나님께서는 그의 피를 믿는 믿음을 통하여 그를 화목제물로 세우셨으니 이는 하나님의 오래 참으심 가운데서 이전에 지은 죄들을 사하심으로 인하여 그의 의를 선포하려 하심이요, 곧 이때에 자기의 의를 선포하심은 자신도 의롭게 되시고 또한 예수를 믿는 자도 의롭다 하려 하심이니라."(롬 3:24-26)고 복음을 선포했다. 사도 베드로도 예수 그리스도의 피를 믿는 사람들의 결과에 대하여 "너희가 그를 보지 못하였으나 사랑하며, 지금도 그를 보지 못하나 믿고 있으며, 또 말할 수 없이 영광으로 가득 찬 기쁨으로 즐거워하나니 이는 너희 믿음의 결과, 곧 너희 혼들의 구원을 받음이라."(벧전 1:8,9)고 증거했다.

      또한 본문에서 주님께서는 구원받은 혼이 몸과 함께 행한대로 각자에게 상을 주실 것을 말씀하셨다. 그 후에 제자들에게 그들이 천년왕국에서 받을 영광을 미리 보여주신 것이다(마 17:1-9) 또한 사도 요한에게 나타나신 주님께서 다시 한 번 이 세상에서 행한대로 보상하실 것을 약속하셨다: "보라, 내가 속히 오리니 내가 줄 상이 내게 있어 각 사람에게 그의 행위에 따라 주리라."(계 22:12) 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 32:1-11

Main scripture: Matthew 16:24-17:9

Subject: What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

       The Word in the beginning with God made all things, and made a man a living soul in the sixth day so that the man was clothed with body for him to have fellowship with God the Spirit through his spirit; and now he is speaking unto the Jew manifested in flesh in the main passage. His message is spoken not only unto the Jew, but also his disciples so called Christian these days.

       A very important message in his words is of the soul that is the "self" abiding in the body of man. Even though so many philosophers as well as many religious people have studied to fine out what is "self" of man, they have to leave the world not giving any answer at all. A philosopher had taught to the world to know thyself, even he himself couldn't find his "self" and died; for only one that knows the answer is God that made man. Who else can  teach about the soul of man except him, God?

       "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it."(Matt 16:25) Who shall understand his word? This shall be heard as not making any sense for them that live only for flesh. "Life" that is mentioned by Jesus means the life of flesh that stays as fog in the morning to disappear when the breath of man is finished. "Life" mentioned by him second time is the eternal life of the soul of man. We have to discern the words of God  spoken unto which part of man. Without the Spirit of God, it is impossible to understand the word of God.

       What does his word mean saying, "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul"? He spoke unto them that satisfied himself with the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, but lost his soul. Apostle John encouraged little Christians for them to understand the word of Jesus before he left the world:

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."(1John 2:15-17)

       It must be natural to follow the maker of man, if he is really man. Do you think that Jesus is asking us too much? Do you feel heavy burden when Jesus is speaking unto you to deny yourself, and take up your cross, and follow him? If it is really so, it is right time for you think about whom are you following deeply to know if he may be not God, but the god of the world. If you are not able to understand, it may be because your spirit given by God is dead now because of sins so that you may not be able to see God. When Jesus appeared to the Jew, he tried reveal himself as God the Creator in flesh showing many kinds of miracles and signs, but they crucified him to death not recognizing him through their dead spirit.

       When Jesus said, "For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind."(John 9:39), some of Pharisees asked him,

"Are we blind also?"      And Jesus answered them saying, " If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth."(John 9:41)

         He meant, if their eyes had been blind physically, they could have been able to hear his voice and come forward and believe on him to receive the remission of sins, and save their souls. But they were not blind physically, but blind spiritually so that they couldn't believe on him, and their sins remained yet; so they couldn't save their souls from the hell. Unfortunately they couldn't understand what Jesus spoke unto them at all.

      Jesus warned of the hell strictly where unsaved souls have to be cast into:

"And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another."(Mark 9:43-50)

         Then which part of man shall be cast into the hell? Body? Or any other part of man? Body of man is to begin to be corrupted three days after death; and all the elements of body shall be dissembled leaving the bones a few years later; and even bones shall also be dissolved; even elementary school boys and girls know this through natural science class. Jesus talked about the rich man and Lazarus to show which part of man is to be cast into the hell (Luke 16:19-26). The body of the rich man was already corrupted, he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Lazarus in the bosom of Abraham in Paradise. And he even cried and said to Abraham asking "Cool my tongue dipping the tip of Lazarus' finger. How dead man could be tormented? How dead man still has eyes and tongue and senses? He is the very man that was profited in the world, but lost the soul as Jesus said in the main passage. We could understand that the soul of man still has all the members as  body. Who could understand this truth and say? It is only possible for God the Creator. But it is matter whether man believes or not; but the result shall be attributed to him or her even though they don't believe it.  As God gave free will unto first man woman, all men have their free will; but they shall be responsible for their decision whether they believe in God or not.

       All men including us already have sinned with our hand and feet and eyes. Apostle Paul declared this truth: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"(Rom 3:23)

And he also continued to testify of the remedy for our sins:

"Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus."(Rom. 3:24-26)

Apostle Peter declared of the result of them that believe in the blood of Jesus Christ: "Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls."(1Pet. 1:8,9)

       In the main passage, Jesus showed the reward for them that work for him showing the glory of his disciples in the Millennium (Matt. 17:1-9). Jesus Christ appeared to Apostle John to promise the reward for the saints saying,  "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be."(Rev. 22;12) Amen! Hallelujah!
