금주의 묵상: 시편 8:1-7

본문: 욥기 42:1-6

제목: 욥의 고백 속에 들어있는 하나님 앞에 비참한 죄인의 모습

       하나님의 사람 사도 바울은 하나님의 말씀을 가르치며 설교하는 목회자 디모데에게 하나님의 말씀인 성경이 어떤 것인지에 대하여 증거했습니다: “모든 성경은 하나님의 영감으로 주어진 것으로 교리와 책망과 바로잡음과 의로 훈육하기에 유익하니 이는 하나님의 사람이 온전하게 되며, 모든 선한 일에 철저히 구비되게 하려 함이니라.”(딤후 3:16,17) 우리가 읽은 욥기 말씀 안에도 교리와 책망과 바로잡음과 의로 훈육하게에 유익한 말씀들로 가득차 있는 것을 깨닫게 될 때 우리는 하나님 앞에서 한층 하나님 께서 원하시는 온전함에 이르는 지혜를 얻게 될 것이며 오직 하나님의 지혜로만 할 수 있는 하나님 보시기에 선한 일에 구비되는 축복을 받게 되는 것입니다.

        욥에 대하여 하나님께서는 그 당대에 사람들 가운데 온전하고 정직하며, 하나님을 두려워하고 악을 피하는 사람이라고 말씀하셨습니다(욥 1:1). 하나님께서는 욥을 축복하시어 일곱 아들과 세 딸을 주셨습니다. 그의 재산도 양이 칠천이며 낙타가 삼천이며 소가 오백 겨리요, 암나귀가 오백이며 아주 많은 가족을 두었습니다. 욥은 마침내 동방의 모든 사람 가운데 가장 큰 자가 되었습니다. 또한 십 남매들이 생일을 맞을 때마다 잔치를 베풀고 먹고 마시는 일로 분주할 정도로 분에 넘치는 축복을 받았습니다.

      욥은 오늘날로 말한다면 억만장자요 자식들은 모두 일류대학들을 나와서 윤택한 삶을 누리는 여피(yuppie)족들처럼 살면서 파티하는 것이 그들의 일상사가 된 상류사회 귀족같이 살고 있었던 것입니다. 그런데 본문에서 우리는 여러가지 고통스런 일들을 겪은 후에 하나님 앞에서 고백하는 욥의 모습을 봅니다: “주께서는 모든 것을 하실 수 있으며, 어떤 생각도 주꼐 알려지지 않을 수 없음을 내가 아나이다. 지식 없이 이치를 가리는 자가 누구니이까? 그러므로 나는 깨닫지 못하는 것을 말하였으니 그것들은 내게 너무 경이로워서 내가 알지 못하였나이다. 내가 간구하오니, 들으소서,. 내가 말하겠나이다. 내가 주께 묻겠사오니, 나로 알게 하소서. 내가 주에 대하여 귀로만 들었사오나 이제는 내 눈으로 보나이다. 그러므로 내가 나를 미워하고 티끌과 재 속에서 회개하나이다.”(욥 42:2-6)

      우리는 욥의 고백을 들으면서 하나님의 축복 가운데 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 가나안 땅에 들어가서 하나님의 택한 백성들로서 이방민족과 비교할 수 없는 독특한 보물처럼 축복을 받았던 이스라엘 민족의 모습을 봅니다. 그러나 그들이 하나님의 율법을 버리고 자신의 의를 주장하다가 수천년 동안 나라도 재물도 잃어버리고 수백만의 아들딸들이 죽임을 당하다가 마침내 마지막 남은 칠 년 동안의 대환란을 통과하면서 그들의 메시야이신 예수 그리스도를 눈으로 볼 때에 회개하는 모습을 교리적으로 보게 됩니다. 또한 그들이 회개할 때, 그리스도의 왕국에서 욥처럼 갑절로 복을 받능 것을 봅니다.

        그 당시 사람들 앞에서 온전하고 정직한 사람인 욥을 하나님 앞에서 정직하고 온전한 자로 만드시기 위해 사단을 사용하셔서 하나님의 허락하심 안에서 그를 막대기로 무참하게 치시는 하나님의 모습을 봅니다. 예수라는 이름으로 사람으로 나타나신 하나님께서 사단에 대하여 말씀하실 때, 도둑은 오직 도둑질하고 죽이며 멸망시키는 자(요 10:10)라고 말씀하셨습니다.

하나님께서는 욥을 연단하실 때 사단으로 하여금 그의 모든 것을 도둑질하는 것은 허락하셨지만 그의 몸에는 손대지 말 것을 말씀하셨습니다. 그렇습니다. 하나님께서는 예나 지금이나 하나님의 사람들을 책망하시고 바로잡으실 때에 그들의 생명에는 손을 대지 못하도록 하시는 것입니다.

        마침내 욥을 연단하셔서 하나님 앞에 그의 참 모습을 보여주시기 위하여 일을 시작하셨습니다. 그는 하루아침에 십남매를 같은 날 잃어버렸으며 그의 모든 소유물들은 강탈당했습니다. 하나님께서는 그 가운데서 하나님을 원망하지 않고 주의 이름을 송축하면서 죄를 짓지 않았습니다. 그러나 두 번째로 사단에게 그의 몸을 치도록 허락하시면서 그의 생명은 남겨두라는 말씀에 따라 사단이 그의 살과 뼈를 쳐서 그의 발바닥으로부터 머리끜 까지 심한 종기로 쳤을 때 욥은 질그릇 조각을 가져다가 그것으로 자기 몸을 긁으면서 재 가운데 앉아있는 신세가 되었습니다. 뿐만 아니라 하나밖에 없는 아내마져 그에게 하나님을 저주하고 죽으라는 말을 남기고 그를 떠났습니다. 그야말로 가장 부유하고 모든 사람 앞에서 존경을 받던 그가 하루아침에 거지가 되고 온몸에 문듕병같은 종기로 가득찬 가장 비참한 신세가 된 것입니다. 또한 평시에 그를 부러워하던 세 친구들마져 자신들의 모습을 보지 못하고 욥에 대한 하나님의 뜻을 알지 못하면서 욥을 위로하러 왔던 사람들이 오히려 그를 판단하면서 괴롭히는 사람들로 변했습니다.

      마침내 하나님께서 보내신 사람 엘리후를 통하여 욥의 세 친구들이 잘못되었음을 바로잡는 말씀들을 주게 하셨습니다. 뿐만 아니라 비참하게 된 욥의 입에서 자신의 의를 주장하면서 하나님에 대하여 섭섭한 말들을 내뱉기 시작하였을 때, 마침내 하나님께서 회오리바람 속에서 욥에게 나타나셔서 욥에게 말씀하셨습니다. 네 장(38-41장)에 걸쳐 하나님께서 욥에게 직접 말씀하셨습니다.

하나님께서는 욥에게 “지식이 없는 말로 이치를 어둡게 하는 이 자가 누구냐? 너는 이제 남자답게 네 허리를 동이라. 내가 너에게 요구할 것이니 너는 내게 대답하라. 내가 땅의 기초를 놓을 때 네가 어디 있었느냐? 네게 명철이 있다면 분명히 밝히라. 누가 그 치수를 재었는지 네가 아느냐? 누가 그 위에 척량줄을 띄웠느냐? 그 기초들은 무엇 위에다 고정시켰으며 모퉁잇돌은 누가 놓았느냐? 언제 새벽별들이 함께 노래했으며 하나님의 아들들이 모두 기뻐서 소리쳤느냐?.”(욥 38:1-7)

      하나님께서는 네 장에 걸쳐서 욥에게 질문들을 퍼부으셨습니다. 물론 욥은 한 마디 대답도 할 수 없었습니다. 우리 역시 한 마디도 대답할 수 없는 질문들인 것입니다. 뿐만 아니라 이 세상에서 가장 유식하다는 학자들이나 과학자들 역시 한 마디도 대답할 수 없는 질문들인 것입니다. 하나님의 질문 가운데 “네가 눈의 보고들 속으로 들어갔느냐? 아니면 네가 우박의 보고를 보았느냐?”(욥 38:22)라는 질문에 대하여 아마도 과학자들은 앞을 다투어 눈이나 우박이 내리는 현상에 대하여 과학적으로 설명하려 할 것입니다. 그러나 여전히 하나님께서는 “하늘에 있는 눈과 우박이 있는 창고를 보았느냐? ” 라고 물으실 것입니다. 하나님께서는 마귀가 없다고 주장하는 사람들을 향하여 마귀의 모습이 어떤 모습인지에 대해서도 자세하게 말씀하셨습니다(욥41장).

      마침내 욥은 하나님께 고백했습니다: “보소서, 나는 악하오니 내가 무엇을 주께 대답하리이까? 내가 내 손으로 내 입을 가리겠나이다. 한 번 내가 말하였으나 대답하지 아니할 것이며 실로 두 번 말하였으나 더 이상 하지 않겠나이다.”(욥 40:3-5).

      선지자 이사야는 지구상에 살고 있는 인생들에 대하여 하나님께서 어떻게 말씀하시는지 증거했습니다: “원형의 지구 위에 앉으신 분이 그분이시니 그곳의 거민들이 메뚜기 같으며, 하늘들을 휘장같이 펼치셨으며, 그 안에 거할 장막처럼 펴셔서 통치자들을 없애며, 땅의 재판관들을 헛되게 하시는도다.”(사 40:22,23) 유식하다는 과학자들이 불과 두 세기 전까지만 해도 지구는 평평해서 끝에가면 절벽이 있다고 무식함을 드러냈는데 하나님께서는 선지자 이사야를 통하여 이천칠백 여년 전에 이미 지구가 둥글다고 말씀하신 것입니다. 그러므로 성경에 나타난 하나님 말씀을 깨달을 떄 지혜로 창조하신 모든 것을 깨달을 수 있는 것입니다.

        그 당시 의인이었던 욥은 하나님의 말씀을 직접들었을 때 자신이 얼마나 비참한 죄인이라는 사실을 처절하게 깨달았던 것입니다. 오늘날에도 기록된 하나님의 말씀을 들을 때 하나님이 어떤 분이심을 알게 되면서 자신이 죄인인 것을 깨달을 수 있는 것입니다. 죽을 때에 아무 것도 가져갈 수도 없고 죽음으로부터 자신을 구해낼 수 없는 비참한 그 시간이 되어서 비로소 깨닫는 사람은 멸망하는 짐승같은 것입니다 (시 49:12,20) 지상에 살고 있는 대부분의 사람들은 여전히 메뚜기처럼 팔딱팔딱 뛰면서 하늘을 향해 더 높이 올라가려고 애를 쓰는 모습을 봅니다. 육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 생의 자랑을 취하면서 위를 향하여 뛰고 있지만 그들의 육체가 풀과 같이 시들어 늙어 죽게 되며 그들이 소유한 모든 영광도 풀의 꽃같이 떨어지는 것을 모르고 돼지처럼 살고 있는 인생들을 볼 때에 처절한 마음이 드는 것입니다.

      다윗왕은 자신이 비참한 죄인임을 깨닫고 고백했습니다: “보소서, 주께서 내 날들을 손 너비만큼 주셨으므로 내 연수가 주 앞에서는 없는 것 같사오니 진실로 가장 좋은 상태에 있는 모든 사람도 다 헛될 뿐이니이다. 주여, 이제 내가 무엇을 기다리겠나이까? 나의 소망은 주께 있나이다….주께서 죄악을 책망하심으로 사람을 바로잡으실 때 그의 아름다움이 좀과 같이 소멸케 하시나니 진실로 모든 사람이 헛되나이다.”(시 39:5,11)

다윗왕의 아들 솔로몬 역시 말년에 자신이 헛된 정욕 가운데 살았던 것을 한탄하는 설교를 하면서 그의 삶을 마감했습니다: “헛되고 헛되며 헛되고 헛되니 모든 것이 헛되도다. 사람이 해 아래서 하는 그의 모든 수고에서 무슨 유익을 갖겠는가?….전체의 결론을 들을지니, 하나님을 두려워하고, 그의 계명들을 지키라. 이것이 사람의 모든 의무니 이는 하나님께서 선이든 악이든 모든 행위와 모든 은밀한 것들을 심판하실 것임이라.”(전 1:2,3; 12:13,14)

        다윗왕은 하나님께서 죄인들을 향하여 베푸시는 은혜에 대하여 증거했습니다: “주의 손가락으로 지으신 주의 하늘들과 주께서 정해 놓으신 달과 별들을 내가 생각해 보니 사람이 무엇이기에 주께서 그를 마음에 두시며 인자가 무엇이기에 주께서 그를 돌보시나이까? 주께서는 그를 천사들보다 조금 낮게 지으셨으며 영화와 존귀로 관을 씌우셨나이다.”(시 8:3-5) 그렇습니다. 하나님께서는 지금도 여전히 자신의 말씀을 통하여 자신들이 비참한 죄인이라는 사실을 뼈저리게 깨닫고 예수 그리스도의 피를 믿어 구원받아 하나님의 진리의 말씀들을 열심히 배워서 하나님이 어떤 분이심을 알기를 원하시는 것입니다(딤전 2:4). 이제는 만물의 마지막이 가까운 때기 되었기 때문에 주님께서 사도 요한에게 말씀하셨습니다: “불의한 자는 그대로 불의함에 있게 하고 더러운 자는 그대로 더러움에 있게 하라. 반면에 의로운 자도 의로움에 있게 하고 거룩한 자도 그대로 거룩함에 있게 하라.”(계 22:11) 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 8:1-9

Main scripture: Job 42:1-6

Subject: Image of miserable sinner before God in the confession of Job

        Apostle Paul, man of God testified unto Timothy, a pastor preaching and teaching the words of God of the scriptures:

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”(2Tim. 3:16,17)

In the book of Job, there are full of doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness. When we understand book of Job, we shall receive understanding of wisdom unto being perfect; and shall be furnished unto all good works.

        Of Job, God testified him as the man that is perfect, and upright, and fears God, and eschews evil (Job 1;1). God blessed Job, and gave him seven sons and three daughters. His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household. Job was the greatest of all the men of the east. His children were busy for eating and drinking to celebrate their birthday parties blessed abundantly by God.

        He was a kind of Billionaire; and his children were graduates of top class of universities such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford and so on living as the class of high one percent in wealth whose life is focused on parties as Yuppie, if he lived in these days. Then, in the main passages, we find Job to confess before God after he passed through various painful things:

“I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”(Job 42:3-6)

        Hearing confession of Job before God, we also see the chosen people of Israel which entered the land of Canaan in the midst of Blessing of God, and received the blessing as the peculiar treasure not comparable with the nations of the Gentiles. But upon breaking the law of God, they have lost their land as well as their substance for thousands of years; and millions of their children were slaughtered. And passing through the Great Tribulation for seven years, whey shall see their Messiah, Jesus Christ, and repent. And they shall be blessed double as Job was.

        At that time, Job was a man of honesty as well as upright before men; but God wanted to make him honest and upright even before him. And God had to allow Satan smite him with rod under permission of God to make him perfect. Jesus Christ spoke about Satan as the one that steal, and kill, and destroy (John 10:10). God allowed Satan to steal all his substances, but not allowed to smite his body. Yeah! Even now, when God tries to correct his children, he not allow Satan to touch the life itself.

      Finally, God began to do his work to discipline Job to show him his real image standing before God. He lost ten his children in the same day, and all his substances were robbed that same day also. But Job blessed the name of the LORD saying, naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither; the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away.

And then, God allowed Satan to smite his body, but to save his life; and Satan smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his feet unto his crown. And Job took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal, and he set down among the ashes. Even his wife left him leaving word, “Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.” Job became a bagger no more man of wealth and respect among men; and he was looked miserable like leper. And his three friends who envied with him came to him to comfort him, but not knowing the will of God as well as not knowing their true images; they ended up judging him to hurt his heart severely.

        Finally, God sent his man, Elihu to give Job’s friends to correct them. And, when Job began to utter to insist his own righteous before God, the LORD God answered Job out of his the whirlwind, and said unto him. God spoke unto him through four chapters: Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”(Job 38:1-7)

        God poured his words questioning him through four chapters in the book of Job. Of course, not he answered back even one question at all. Neither we can answer his question at all, not at all even scholars most intellegent in the world, as well as scientists either. Probably some scientist may try to answer against the question, “Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,”(Job 38:22) They may try to explain about the phenomenon of snow and hail scinetifically. But God will continue to ask them, “Have you ever seen the treasures of snow as well as the treasures of the hail?”

God also revealed Job of the devil teaching them that insist of no devil(41 chapter).

          Upon hearing all the questions of God, Job finally confessed unto God saying, ” Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.”(Job 40:3-5)

       Prophet Isaiah testified of men dwelling on the face of the earth how God says of them: “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.”(Isa. 40:22,23)

 Even before two of three centuries, so called intellegent scholars concluded, the earth is flat so that at the end, there is cliff showing their ignorance before God. But prophet Isaiah already knew the circle of the earth with wisdom of God even two thousand and seven hundred years ago. When we understand the words of God revealed in the scriptures, we shall understand all the creation made by the wisdom of God.

        A righteous man among men at that time finally understood how much a miserable sinner before God upon hearing the words of God spoken unto him directly. Even today, when we hear the voice of God written in the scriptures, we shall understand who is God as well as at the same time how much miserable sinners we are. The scripture testified of them that are like perishing animals; they finally understand at the miserable end of life, they cannot take their substances with them, and no one can deliver them from death (Ps. 49:12,20). Almost of people in the world are still hopping up and up towards heaven to reach higher and higher. Even though they are trying to go up higher through gaining the lust of flesh, and the lust of eyes, and the pride of life, they are living as pigs being ignorant of themselves neither knowing their body withers as grass nor knowing their glory falls as the flower of grass. How much such miserable things are going around us?

        King David confessed unto the LORD God understanding himself such a miserable sinner saying, “Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah…..When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.”(Ps. 39:5, 11))

King Solomon, the son of David also ended his life lamenting his life in the midst of the lust in vain preaching toward the world saying, Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?…. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

1For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Eccl. 1:2,3; 12:13,14).

        King David testified of the grace toward sinners saying, “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:(Ps. 8:3-6)

 Yeah! God still wants men to understand themselves sinner understanding the words of God, and to be saved through the power of the blood of Jesus Christ; and also to know God that is God (1Tim. 4:2)

Apostle John testified of the last time saying, “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.”(Rev. 22;11) Amen! Hallelujah!
