금주의 묵상: 시편 111:1-10

본문: 사무엘상 15:1-20

제목: 성경이 말씀하시는 마법과 행악과 우상숭배

          하나님께서는 아브라함을 부르실 때 그를 축복하는 자들을 축복하고, 그를 저주하는 자를 저주하실 것(창 12:3)이라고 말씀하셨습니다. 본문에서 우리는 아브라함의 자손을 저주한 민족을 철저하게 저주하시는 하나님을 봅니다. 그 민족은 아말렉 민족이었습니다. 아말렉 민족은 에서의 아내가 낳은 자들로서 하나님께 택함 받은 야곱을 미워하던 자들이었습니다. 이스라엘 백성들이 이집트에서 나와 광야를 행진할 때에 그들만이 유일하게 이스라엘과 싸우려고 나왔습니다. 이때 하나님의 사람 모세는 그의 군대장관안 여호수아에게 아멜렉과 싸우라고 명했습니다. 모세는 아론과 훌과 함께 산의 정상으로 올라가 모세가 자기 손을 들면 이스라엘이 이기고, 그가 손을 내리면 아말렉이 이겼습니다(출 17:9-11). 이때에 여호수아는 칼날로 아말렉과 그의 백성을 쳐부수었습니다.

        이때 하나님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨습니다: “이것을 책에 기록하여 기념하게 하고 여호수아의 귀에 되풀이해서 들려주라. 이는 내가 하늘 아래에서 아말렉의 기억을 완전히 없앨 것이라.”(출 17:14)  

이때에 모세가 제단을 쌓고 그것의 이름을 여호와 닛시라 부르고 말하기를 ‘이는 주께서 대대로 아말렉과 싸우리라고 주께서 맹세하셨기 때문이라.’ 말했습니다 (출 17:15,16).

        오랜 세월이 지난 후 하나님께서는 모세에게 말씀하신대로 아말렉을 지상에서 완전히 멸하시려 작정하시고 선지자 사무엘을 부르셔서 당시 이스라엘 왕이었던 사울로 하여금 그 일을 수행하게 하기 위하여 말씀하셨습니다. 이때에 사무엘이 사울왕에게 하나님의 뜻을 전했습니다: “주께서 나를 보내시어 왕에게 기름을 부어 그의 백성 이스라엘을 치리할 왕으로 삼게 하셨으니, 이제 왕은 주의 말씀에 경청하소서. 만군의 주께서이깉이 말씀하시기를, ‘나는 아말렉이 이스라엘에게 행한 일, 즉 이스라엘이 이집트에서 올라올 때, 그가 길에서 매복하던 일을 일을 기억하노라.이제 가서 아말렉을 치되, 그들이 소유한 모든 것을 완전히 멸하여 그들을 남겨두지 말지니, 남자와 여자, 아기와 젖먹이, 소와 양, 낙타와 나귀를 다 죽이라.’하셨나이다.”(삼상 15:1-3)

        이때 사울왕은 아말렉과 함께 거하던 켄인들을 다 떠나게 한 후 온 지역에 있던 아말렉인들을 쳤으나 그들의 왕 아각을 살려두고 양들과 소들과 기름진 것들과 어린양들과 모든 좋은 것 중에서 가장 좋은 것은 남겨두고 완전히 멸하기를 원치 아니하였으며, 천하고 쓸모없는 것들은 다 멸했습니다. 이때, 하나님께서 사무엘에게 말씀하셨습니다: “내가 사울을 세워 왕으로 삼은 것을 후회하노니, 이는 그가 나를 따르는 것에서 돌이켜 내 계명들을 이행하지 아니하였음이라.”(삼상 15:11)

        이때 사무엘은 사울왕에게, 어찌하여 그가 주의 음성에 복종하지 않고 아말렉을 완전히 멸하지 않고 탈취물에만 달려들어 주의 목전에 악을 행하였느냐고 물었습니다. 사울은 자신이 행한 일이 결코 죄가 아니라는 것을 변명하면서 말했습니다: “정녕 내가 주의 음성에 복종하여 주께서 나를 보내신 길로 갔으며 아말렉 왕 아각을 끌어왔고 아말렉인들을 완전히 멸하였나이다. 그러나 백성이 완전히 멸했어야만 했던 탈취물 중에서 주 당신의 하나님께 길갈에서 제사를 드리기 위하여 가장 좋은 것으로 양들과 소들을 취하였나이다.”(삼상 15:20,21) 사울은 하나님의 명령에 복종하지 않은 것에 대하여 자신이 행한 일에 대해 조금도 인정하지 않고 변명을 늘어놓았던 것입니다.

      이때 하나님의 선지자 시무엘은 하나님의 명령에 복종하지 않았던 사울왕의 죄에 대하여 분명하게 말하면서 그를 보좌로부터 끌어내리는 하나님의판결을 내렸습니다: “주께서 번제와 희생제를 주의 음성에 복종하는 것만큼 크게 기뻐하시나이까? 보소서, 복종하는 것이 희생제물보다 낫고, 경청하는 것이 숫양의 기름보다 낫나이다. 이는 거역함은 마법하는 죄와 같고 완고함은 행악과 우상 숭배와 같음이니이다. 왕이 주의 말씀을 거역하였기에, 주께서도 왕을 거절하여 왕이 되지 못하게 하셨나이다.”( 삼상15:22,23)

          하나님께서 당시 이스라엘 백성들이나 오늘날 하나님의 교회에 속한 하나님의 자녀들에게 주신 모든 말씀은 하나님의 명령들로서 마땅히 듣고 행하라고 주신 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀에 거역하는 것이 마치 마법하는 것과 같다는 말씀을 마음에 깊히 새겨야할 것입니다. 다시 말해서 하나님의 말씀을 거역하여 행하는 죄는 마치 우리가 무당에게 찾아가는 것과 같다는 무서운 말씀인 것입니다. 다시 말해서 우리가 하나님의 말씀에 순종하지 않을 때 마귀가 찾아와서 마법을 걸게 된다는 것입니다. 그래서 주님께서는 시험에 들지 않게 해 달라고 기도하고 악에서 구해주실 것을 기도하라고 말씀하셨으며, 께어서 기도하라고 말씀하신 것입니다(마 6:13; 26:41). 결국 기도하지 않으면 하나님의 말씀에 순종하지 않게 되어 마귀가 거는 마법에 넘어가 죄를 짓게 된다는 것임니다. 결국 시험에 든다는 것은 마귀의 마법에 걸려들게 된다는 경고인 것입니다.

      본문에서 또 한 가지 아주 중요한 교훈을 주시는 것이 있습니다. 이 또한 하나님의 자녀들이 소홀히 여기다가 하나님의 진노 아래 떨어지게 되는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 사무엘을 통하여 “완고함은 행악과 우상 숭배와 같음이니이다.”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 완고함이 무엇입니까? 죄를 죄로 여기지 않으면서 자기를 합리화시키는 일인 것입니다. 사울왕은 분명히 하나님께서 아말렉인 모두를 한 사람도 남김 없이 다 죽이라고 명령하셨는데 아각왕 한 사람 정도야 하는 생각으로 하나님께서도 자기 마음을 알아 주시겠지 하는 변명을 했던 것입니다. 또한 모든 짐승들까지도 다 죽이라고 말씀하셨는데, 하나님께 제사드리기 위하여 좋은 것들을 남겨두면 하나님께서 칭찬하시겠지 하는 완고한 생각으로 악을 행했던 것입니다. 그러나 그는 그 자신이 만든 상황윤리(狀況倫理)에 사로잡혀서 두려우신 하나님을 만홀히 여긴 죄를 깨닫지 못했던 것입니다. 그는 하나님의 지상명령을 무시하고 자신의 생각으로 행한 것이 얼마나 큰 완고함이며 행악인지 깨닫지 못했습니다.

        하나님께서는 오늘날 라오디게아 교회를 향하여 또 한 가지 엄중한 경고의 메시를 주고 계십니다. 바로 우상 숭배에 대한 것입니다. 사울 왕은 짐승들 가운데 좋은 것들로 하나님께 제사드리겠다고 하였지만 하나님께서는 그의 마음 속에 들어있는 탐심을 보셨던 것입니다. 오늘날 마지막 때에 서방국가에 살고 있는 라오디게아 교회 교인들이 우상 숭배를 하면서도 깨닫지 못하는 부분이 바로 이것입니다. 하나님의 말씀에 복종치 않으며 교회에 헌금만 하면 된다는 생각으로 온갖 악한 행위로 물질을 벌어서 하나님을 기쁘시게 하겠다는 사울왕같은 사람들이 교회 안에 넘치는 시대가 되었습니다. 사도 바울은 큰 도시인 골로새에 있는 성도들에게 우상 숭배에 대하여 분명하게 증거했습니다: “그러므로 땅 위에 있는 지체를 죽이라. 곧 음행과 부정과 사욕과 악한 색욕과 탐심이니 탐심은 우상 숭배니라. 이런 것들 때문에 하나님의 진노가 불순종의 자녀들 위에 임하느니라.”(골 3:5,6)

      사도 베드로는 하나님의 교회에 속한 그리스도인들을 향하여 “그러나 너희는 선택받은 세대요 왕같은 제사장이며, 거룩한 민족이요, 독특한 백성이니, 이는 너희를 어두움에서 불러내어 그의 놀라운 빛으로 들어가게 하신 분의 덕을 너희로 선포하게 하려 함이니라.”(밷전 2:9)고 증거했습니다.

다시 말해서, 거듭난 하나님의 자녀들은 앞으로 주 예수 그리스도께서 이 땅에 왕국을 세우실 때에 주님과 함께 이 땅을 통치하는 공동상속자들로서 왕권을 주시기 위하여 택함받은 자들이라는 것입니다. 그러나 하나님의 자녀들이 사울 왕같은 죄를 지으면 하나님의 왕국에서 상속받을 것이 없게 되어 사울 왕처럼 왕같은 제사장의 특권을 잃어버리게 되는 것입니다. 성령께서는 사도 바울은 통하여 이에 대하여 경고의 메시지를 주셨습니다:

“너희가 이것을 알거니와 음행하는 자나 더러운 자나 욕심 많은 자, 곧 우상 숭배자는 누구든지 하나님과 그리스도의 왕국에서 상속받을 것이 없느니라. 아무도 너희를 헛된 말들로 속이지 못하게 하라. 이는 이런 것들 때문에 하나님의 진노가 불순종의 자녀들 위에 임하기 때문이니라.”(엡 5:5,6)

 “이제 육신의 일들은 분명히 나타나나니 곧 간음과 음행과 더러운 것과 음욕과 우상 숭배와 마술과 원수 맺음과 다툼과 질투와 분노와 투쟁과 분열과 이단들과 시기와 살인과 술 취함과 흥청거립과 또 그와 같은 것들이라. 내가 전에 말한 바와 같이 미리 말하노니 그런 짓들을 하는 자들은 하나님의 나라를 상속받지 못할 것이라.”(갈 5:19-21)

 “그러나 개들과 마술사들과 음행자들과 살인자들과 우상 숭배자들과 누구든지 거짓말을 즐겨 행하는 자는 모두 다 바깥에 있으리라.”(계 22:15)

        마지막으로 다시 한 번 마음에 새겨야 할 것은, 누구든지 하나님의 사랑 안에서 주 예수 그리스도의 보혈을 통하여 무조건적인 은혜로 죄사함을 받아 생명을 받은 용서받은 죄인들이 모여있는 하나님의 교회에 속한 모든 그리스도인들은 그리스도 예수 안에서 주신 하나님의 뜻을 행해야 할 엄중한 의무가 있는 것입니다. 사도 바울은 우리를 향한 하나님의 뜻이 무엇인지 분명하게 증거했습니다: “항상 기뻐하라. 쉬지 말고 기도하라. 모든 일에 감사하라. 이것은 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향한 하나님의 뜻이니라.”(살전 5:16-18) 우리를 향한 하나님의 엄중한 뜻은 사울 왕에게 주셨던 명령과 조급도 바를 것이 었다는 것을 마음 속에 깊히 새기면서 두려운과 떨림으로 행해야 할 것입니다. 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 111:1-10

Main scripture: 1Samuel 15:1-20

Subject: Biblical sins of witchcraft, iniquity and idolatry

        The LORD God called Abraham, and gave him a covenant promising him to bless them that bless him, and curse him that curses him (Gen. 12:3). In the main passage, God cursed the people that cursed him; that was the people of Amalek. Amalek was born from the wife of Esau; he hated Jacob who was chosen by God. When Israel was marching in the wilderness out of Egypt, only Amalek came forward Israel to have war with them. Moses the man of God commanded Joshua to fight with Amalek. Moses went up the top of hill with Aaron and Hur. And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed (Ex. 17:9-11). And Joshua destroyed Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

          And the Lord said unto Moses, “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”(Ex. 17:14)

Then Moses built an alter, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi. For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation (Ex. 17:15,16)

        Finally, after many days had passed by, the LORD God prophet Samuel to destroy Amalek and his people from the face of the earth as he said unto Moses. God asked Samuel to let king Saul perform the will of God against Amalek. Samuel gave the message of God unto king Saul saying,

 “The Lord sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the Lord.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.”(1Sam. 15:1-3)

        Then, king Saul asked the Kenites to go depart from Amalekites; and Saul smote the Amalekites. But Saul and the people spared Agag, and best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse. Then, God said unto Samuel saying, “It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. “(1Sam. 15:11)

        Samuel rebuked Saul saying, wherefore then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but did fly upon the spoil, and did evil in the sight of the LORD? Saul answered unto him excusing himself denying his sin, “Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.”(1Sam. 15:20,21)

        Then Samuel itemized the sin of Saul not obeying the commandment of the LORD, and sentenced him on behalf of the LORD rejecting him from being king: and said unto him:

 “ Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.”(1Sam. 15:22,23)

      All the words of God given unto the people of Israel as well as unto the church of God asking them to hearken and obey them all. We should engrave the word of God, “Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft” in our heart deeply not to forget. In other word, the sin of rebellion against the word of God is same as visiting witchcraft to the eyes of God. In other word, when we not obey the words of God, we are trapped into the witchcraft that is controlled by the devil. This is the reason why Jesus Christ asked the Jew to pray not to in temptation, and deliver them from evil; and asked them to watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation(Matt. 6:13; 26:41). Without praying leads us not to obey the words of God after all, and to be hooked by the witchcraft of the devil. Being in temptation means being in witchcraft trapped by the devil.

        In the main passage, we find another very important teaching; it also another warning for the children of God to be falling into the wrath of God without paying attention. God spoke through prophet Samuel, “Stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

 ” What is stubbornness? It is to compromise excusing ourselves saying not sinned. King Saul compromised himself thinking himself, it will be okay even though he spared just one man Agag, even though the LORD asked him to destroy Amalek and the people even not sparing any one of them. And God asked him to destroy all the animals; but he also compromised himself thinking himself in his stubbornness, sparing good ones of them for the sacrifices for God would be good to him. Yea! With his stubbornness, Saul could not understand his sins of making fool of God of fear in his own ethic of situational theory. He couldn’t understood how much was he stubborn when he was walking in his own thought ignoring the great commission of fearful God.

        God is giving another burdensome message toward the churches of Laodicea; this is the warning of idolatry. God saw the covetousness in the heart of Saul, when he said unto Samuel saying, he saved good ones of sheep and oxen to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God. How many Christians in the churches of Laodicea living in the wealthy countries understand their sins of idolatry? There are many Sauls thinking themselves to please the Lord just giving good tithe and offering doing all kinds of business ignoring the words of God. Apostle Paul testified of the sin of idolatry very clearly unto the Colossians living in the great city:

 “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:”(Col. 3:5,6)

        Apostle Peter testified toward the Christians belong to the church of God saying, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”(1Ptet. 2:9)

In other word, the born again Christians are chosen as kings and priests as the joint-heirs with Christ in the Millennium kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ to reign with him. But if the children of God sin as king Saul, they shall lose the inheritance of royal priests in the kingdom of God as king Saul lost his throne as king. The Holy Ghsot gave a warning message through Apostle Paul to the churches:

 “For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.”(Eph. 5:5,6)

    “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”(Gal. 5:19-21)

“For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”(Rev. 22:15)

        Finally, the one thing that we have not to forget with understanding engraving in our heart is to know that we have burdensome responsibility of doing the will of God given unto all the Christians in the church of God that received the unconditional grace of eternal life through forgiveness of sins. Apostle Paul testified of the will of God in Christ Jesus very clearly saying,

 “Rejoice evermore.

Pray without ceasing.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”(1Thes. 5:16-18)

The will of God given unto us is no different from the commandment given unto king Saul, Therefore, we have to walk in fear and trembling engraving his will in our heart deeply. Amen! hallelujah!
