This week’s meditation: Psalms 144:1-15

Scripture: 1 Samuel 17: 20-54

Title: David and Goliath; Seed (Christ) of the woman and the serpent (Satan)

        Jesus spoke unto his disciples after he rose again:

” These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.” (Luke 24:44)

        That’s right! Today we hear the word of the Lord Jesus Christ foretold by the prophet Samuel. Christ appeared in the Old Testament is the seed of woman(Israel) to appear as the Messiah of Israel, and the Saviour to give salvation to the world.

          In order to understand of Christ manifested in the Old Testament of Christ, we need the anointment of the Holy Ghost. Jesus gave the grace unto the disciples for

them to understand of himself manifested in the Old Testament that he had taught them for three years and half:

” Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,.” (Luke 24:45)

           The first prophesy of Christ to come is written in the book of Genesis, the first book of the scriptures. It is Adam, the first man. He was appointed as the king by the LORD God to subdue all the earth. The LORD God had foreknown of the devil that were cast out of the heaven to be false Christ after he sinned, and to tempt the first man so that he might rule over all things in the earth. For this cause, God had planned to send his only begotten Son  in the name of Jesus take over the earth to reign as the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Apostle Paul testified of this: 

” And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. “(I Corinthians 15:45)

          Unless our understanding opened, we shall be blinded spiritually so that all the scriptures of the Old Testament as only the past history not as the future history that shall be happening unto us. Jesus opened the understanding for his disciples after he rose again; now the Holy Ghost  opens our understanding since he came to the world in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus spoke unto the disciples before he departed the world:

” I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. “(John 16: 12-13).

           Today we are listening to a piece of the story that took place in Israel on the battlefield fighting with the Philistines. A boy,  David bruised the head of Goliath, the general of Philistine with a stone unto death, and brought forth the victory unto Israel. David trusted in the LORD God Jehovah, and the power of his faith crushed the head of Goliath, Giant unto victory. The LORD God saw his faith, and anointed him as the king of Israel afterwards.

          Through these words, we can understand in the two ways; the one is a doctrinal word, the second spiritual teaching for us.  

            First, of the doctrinal teachings that God gives us it will be realized through the words spoken to the serpent that brought sin:

” And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel..” (Genesis 3:15)

           God had chosen Jacob among the children of Abraham, and gave him a new name, Israel. And God chose the people of Israel as his woman that is his spouse, and spoke unto them:  

” For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called “(Isaiah 54: 5).

             That’s right! God made Israel as his woman, his wife, and he sent his only begotten Son as the seed of woman that is a Jew. Knowing this, the serpent that is the devil nailed him on the cross to bruise his feet unto death. Then there is another thing to happen; The Lord Jesus Christ, the seed of woman will bruise the head of the serpent. Apostles testified of this:

 ” Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. “(Hebrews 2: 14-15)

” He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil..” (1 John 3: 8)

            Apostle Paul :testified of the Lord Jesus Christ that shall appear to the earth as the seed of woman to destroy the devil that is the serpent:

” And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.” (Romans 16:20)

            That’s right! David is the figure of Christ that will bruise the head of the serpent, the prince of the world. David also was born of the seed of woman, Israelite; he was a prophet, a priest and a king. He had all three jobs of Christ  to be enough to be the figure of Christ to come. The stone with which he killed Goliath is the figure of the living stone that is the Lord Jesus Christ that will judged the whole world in the future as prophet Daniel prophesied:

“ Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure“(Daniel 2:45)

             Apostle Peter understood of the stone spiritually; and he testified of the Lord Jesus Christ as a living stone:

” To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.“ (1Pet. 2: 4-5)

             Christ is the living stone; and whosoever receive his Spirit by faith shall be a living stone. Living means to live eternally. And the gathering of the living stones is the church of God as the body of Christ. Before Jesus departed the world, he spoke unto the disciples as the ones that overcame the world as he overcame it.  Apostle John testified of the ones that overcame the world:

”  In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

” For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? ” (1 John 5: 4 5)

             The spiritual warfare for us is not against blood and flesh. As David crushed the head of Goliath throwing the stone, we have to be clothed with words of God that is the stone to overcome the world. Now, we are not given a stone, but the word of God. Apostle Paul testified of this unto the saints of Ephesians church: 

:” Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, “
