Meditations of the Week: Psalms 48:1-14

Text: Psalm 46: 1-11

The title of the Word:  Stand still, and  hear the word of God!

         During the last six thousand years, since Satan became the ruler of this world, he made people unable to stand still. The rich are busy, the poor are so poor, the sick are so sick that they are not giving time to think. Korean people are so diligent that they are living without any time to rest and greeting each other saying, “Are you busy?” instead of “How are you?”

         God asked the people of Israel to stand still when they feared the Red Sea coming out of Egypt. To make matters worse, when the Egyptian army approached them, they cried out in deep fear. They cried out to Moses saying they’d better surrender and serve Egyptian.. At this time God spoke through Moses:”  Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace (Exodus 14:13-14).

          That’s right! There was nothing in their eyes except the Red Sea and the Egyptians who chased them. They could not even think about what God would do for them. But the best they could do was to keep their eyes on God’s work. Our enemy still use  his servants to show greatly fearful things before the eyes of the People of God as well as his children so that they are not able to stand still. 

          In this age, what is the thing that devil makes people of God and his children to fear and see? The Israelites are in a situation whenever they may be driven out of Jerusalem, their holy city. Now they rely on Trump than God and are worried that he will not keep his promise. How about the children of God? Among them are the Underground Saints who may wonder when they die in communist countries and Islam. How are the people in Korea? We are afraid that when the nation is occupied by the communist, we are afraid that we will die and that even Christians will soon have to close the church door. But God is still telling His people and His children to remain still. Before Samuel told Saul to anoint Saul to be the  king, ”  Stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God” (1 Samuel 9:27).

           God said, ” Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10). You did.

If so, then in a future context, we should realize that God is going to say to them, “Be still.”

In the future, the LORD God will speak to the Jews who will be in the midst of the Great Tribulation, the time of Jacob’s trouble, the 70th week of Daniel, who will appear on this earth soon after the church of God is lifted up into heaven. They will stand still until they know that only God is their refuge, strength, and help in their afflictions.

         Today the psalmist witnessed what was going to happen at that time in the Holy Spirit. These are things that are not comparable to the situation where the ancient Red Sea is blocked and the Egyptian army is trying to cover them. In response to the situation at that time, psalmist wrote: ” Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah..” (Psalm 46: 3)

         Once again, the word “Selah” shows that this terrible situation is a phenomenon that will happen during the Great Tribulation. The Holy Spirit has once again shown to the apostle John in his book of Revelation for him to testify ” And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. “(Rev. 16: 17-20)

          The last week of the seventy of the Great Tribulation, which God had prophesied through the prophet Daniel, It is time for God to give grace to the Jews, Gentiles, and not regenerated Christians for the last opportunity to be saved. In a situation where there is no solution, they are to receive the last grace of God to hear the voice of God and repent and enter into the kingdom of Christ.

           Against these last days, Jesus also made a clear statement: ”  And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;  Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.  And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.  And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.“(Luke 21: 25-28).

          God had  prophesied of these days through old prophets:” For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.“(Haggai 2: 6-9)

             The apostle Paul also testified to the Hebrews about these things to happen;

” 26Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire. “(Hebrews 12: 26-29 “

         The Jewish people, the Gentiles, and the unborn again Christians, who repent through the tribulation , Apostle Paul bear witness to the words that will bring back the unwavering kingdom of God to repent and enter: ” 4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. “(Psalm 46: 4-7)

           God speaks clearly towards nations that are threatening the world with their nuclear weapons

” 8Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. “(Psalm 46: 8-11).

        The prophet Joel prophesied that God would accomplish his work through the battle of Armageddon: “Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Lord.  Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.  So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more ” Joel 3: 11-17)

           No matter how freely democratic the country is, it cannot be our refuge. Even in communist nations, including North Korea, God’s children are in the refuge of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not to be Christian nationalists. Even if Korea is occupied by the communist, the born again Christians can be free in the Lord. However, we must pray that they will keep faith to the end. For modern Korean Christians who have fallen as a whole from the modern priests and the people, we must pray that the red unification  and the Great Tribulation  , which may come to the near future, would rather be a spiritual blessing. Amen! Hallelujah!
