성시: 시편 139:1-24

제목: 할례받아 거룩하게 된 자들의 축복

    아브람이 구십구 세였을 때 하나님께서 그가 많은 민족들의 아비가 되리라는 언약을 주시고 그의 이름을 아브라함이라 부르셨다. 동시에 그 언약의 표적으로서 할례를 정하시고 모든 사내 아이는 포피의 살을 베어냄으로써 하나님과 그들 사이에 언약의 표가 될 것을 말씀하셨다. 하나님께서는 그의 언약이 그들의 살에 있을 것이라 말씀하셨다. 피로 맺은 언약으로서 앞으로 그리스도의 피로 맺을 새 언약의 그림자와 같은 것이었다. 또한 이 언약은 아브라함의 믿음이 의로 여겨진 후에 증거로서 주어진 것이었다(창 17:1-14).

     본문에서 이스라엘의 남은 자들이 주의 종 여호수아에게 온전히 순종하여 요단을 건넌 후에 요단 서편에 있는 아모리인의 모든 왕과 해변에 있는 카나안인의 모든 왕이 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성 앞에서 요단의 물을 마르게 하셨다는 말을 듣고 혼비백산 하게 되었다. 하나님께서 그들에게 두려움을 주신 것이다. 오늘날에도 그리스도인들이 하나님께 온전히 순종하여 그분의 능력이 나타나게 될 때 세상이 두려워하게 되는 것이다. 사도 바울은 이와 관련하여 “내 말과 내 설교를 설득력 있는 인간의 지혜의 말로 하지 않고 성령과 능력을 나타냄으로 하였으니.”(고전 2:4)라고 증거했다.

   주의 음성에 복종하지 않았던 모든 백성들을 그들이 진멸되기 까지 사십 년 동안 방황하게 하시며 그들에게는 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 약속의 땅을 보여주시지도 않으셨다. 그러나 주의 음성에 온전히 복종한 남은 자들이 요단을 건넌 후에 하나님께서 그들에게 할례를 행할 것을 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. 다시 말해서 그들에게 아브라함과 한 언약을 다시 한 번 확증하셨던 것이다. 그들이 할례를 행한 후에 “오늘 내가 이집트의 치욕을 너희에게서 굴려 보냈다.”(9절)고 말씀하셨다. 그들이 가나안 땅에서 유월절을 지킨 후 이튿날에 그 땅의 옛 곡식을 먹었으며 그 이튿날에는 만나가 끊어졌다 (10-12절).

     하나님께서는 요단을 통과한 백성들에게 할례를 통하여 사흘 간 고통 속에서 다시 한 번 하나님의 언약을 마음에 새기게 하심으로써 이집트에서 겪었던 모든 치욕들을 모두 벗어버리고 거룩하게 하셨던 것이다. 그때에 주의 군대장관이 나타나서 그들을 인도하기 시작했다. 또한 주의 임재가 있는 곳이 거룩한 땅이 됨을 보여주셨다.

     본문 말씀을 통하여 영원한 가나안 땅을 목전에 둔 그리스도인들에게 거룩한 메시지를 주신다. 하나님께서 예비하신 유업은 광야같은 세상에서 모든 고난과 시험을 이기고 온전히 순종한 하나님의 자녀들에게 약속하신 것임을 다시 한 번 보여주시는 것이다. 할례받은 남은 자들을 길갈로 인도하신 하나님께서 오늘날 온전히 순종하는 자녀들에게도 그리스도의 할례를 통하여 죄의 몸을 완전히 벗어버리게 하시는 것이다. 사도 바울은 이에 관하여 골로새에 있는 그리스도 안에 있는 성도들과 신실한 형제들에게 분명하게 증거했다:
“또한 너희가 그의 안에서 손으로 하지 아니한 할례를 받았으니 곧 그리스도의 할례로 육신의 죄들의 몸을 벗어버린 것이라….너희 죄들과 너희 육체의 무할례 가운데서 죽었던 너희를 하나님께서 그와 함께 살리셔서 우리의 모든 허물을 용서하셨으니.”(골 2:11,13)  

     선지자 엘리야가 하나님께 중보하여 말하기를 “주여, 그들이 주의 선지자들을 죽였으며 주의 제단들을 헐어버렸고 나만 홀로 남았는데 그들이 나의 생명을 찾고 있나이다.”(롬 11:3)라고 하였을 때 하나님께서는 “내가 나를 위하여 바알의 형상에 무릎을 꿇지 아니한 칠천 명을 남겨 두었노라.”고 말씀하셨다 (롬 11:4). 사도 바울은 이 사실을 증거하면서 “그러므로 이와 같이 지금도 은혜의 선택하심을 따라 남은 자가 있느니라.”(롬 11:5)고 증거했다. 마지막 때인 지금 하나님의 약속의 말씀에 온전히 순종함으로써 죄들의 몸을 벗어버리고 거룩하게 되는 사람들이 극히 적은 것 같이 보일지라도 옛날 요단을 건너 할례를 받아 거룩하게 된 남은 자들이 있었던 것처럼 지금도 하나님께서 예비한 사람들이 곳곳에 숨어있는 것이다. 주님께서 공중에 강림하실 때에 그 남은 자들이 주님께 붙어 한 몸을 이루어 주님의 신부로서 혼인찬치에 들어가게 될 것이다 (계 19:7-9) 

    옛날 이스라엘 땅에 홀로 남아 고난 받았던 엘리야처럼 지금도 세상 곳곳에서 세상 신과 타협하지 않고 하나님의 말씀으로 자신을 거룩하게 하며 죄들의 몸을 완전히 벗어버리고 성령님을 따라 그리스도와 함께 고난 받으면서  약속의 도성을 바라보면서 믿음 안에서 외로운 행로를 걷고 있는 남은 자들이 많이 있는 것이다. 그들이 가는 곳마다 성령님께서 친히 인도하시니 거룩한 땅이 되는 것이다. 주님께 온전히 순종했던 다윗은 “주께서는 나를 앞뒤에서 감싸셨고 내게 안수하셨나이다.”(시 139:5) 라고 고백했다.

     지금이야말로 온전히 죄들의 몸으로부터 벗어나서 거룩함에 이르러야 할 때이다. 하나님께서는 “내가 거룩하니, 너희도 거룩하라.”(벧전 1:16)고 사도 베드로를 통하여 또 한 번 말씀하셨다. 주 예수께서도 마지막 기도를 통하여 말씀하셨다“아버지의 진리로 그들을 거룩하게 하여 주옵소서. 아버지의 말씀은 진리니이다. 아버지께서는 나를 세상에 보내신 것같이 나도 그들을 세상에 보냈사옵니다. 또 그들을 위하여 나는 나 자신을 거룩하게 하오니 이는 그들도 진리를 통해 거룩하게 되기를 위함이니이다. 그러나 나는 이들만을 위하여 기도하는 것이 아니옵고 그들의 말을 통하여 나를 믿을 사람들도 위함이니이다.”(요 17:17-20)
그렇다! 주님께서는 그의 제자들 뿐만 이니라 우리들을 위하여서도 기도하신 것이다. 하나님의 진리의 말씀으로 거룩하게 되기를 기도하셨다. 사도 베드로는 이에 관하여 “너희가 성령을 통하여 진리에 순종함으로써 너희 혼들을 정결케 하여 가식 없는 형제 사랑에 이르렀으니 순결한 마음으로 서로 뜨겁게 사랑하라.”(벧전 1:22)고 증거했다.

      거룩하게 된 자들 앞에는 주의 천사들이 앞서 가면서 원수들과 싸우신다는 사실을 마음에 새겨야 할 것이라. 하나님의 자녀들일지라도 거룩하지 아니하면 하나님과 동행할 수 없는 것이다. 이스라엘의 남은 자들처럼 영적 할례를 통하여 세상의 모든 수치를 굴러보내며 말씀에 순종하는 거룩함 가운데 주님과 동행하는 승리의 삶을 살자!

Subject: Blessing for them sanctified through circumcision

     When Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD God gave him the covenant to make him a father of many nations; and called his name as Abraham. God also asked him to circumcise the flesh of his foreskin to make the sign between God and them. God also said, “My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.”  This covenant with blood was the shadow of the new covenant with the blood of Christ in the future. And this covenant was given to Abraham as the evidence after his faith was justified (Gen. 17:1-14).

     After the remnant of Israel crossed over Jordan obeying Joshua, all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until they were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was their spirit in them anymore, because of the children of Israel.  When the Christian is totally obedient to the Lord, the world shall be scared by them because of the manifestation of the Spirit and power. Apostle Paul testified of this:
“And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power :”(1Cor. 2:4)

     The children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD; God never showed them the land that flew with milk and honey either. But after obedient people crossed over Jordan, God asked Joshua to circumcise them to reconfirm the covenant given unto Abraham. After they were circumcised, God spoke to them, “This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you.”(v9)
And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the Passover; and manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn (v10-12)

     God sanctified them through the circumcision by rolling away the reproach of Egypt after they crossed over Jordan through engraving the covenant of God in the midst of three days of pain.  Then the captain of the host of the LORD appeared to them to lead their way, and showed them their land as the holy one with the presence of God.

     Through the main passage, the Holy Ghost shows a holy message unto us that are looking forward the eternal Canaan ahead. The inheritance prepared by God is promised for them that overcome all kinds of suffering and temptation, and obey the Lord in the world as the wilderness. As God led the remnant to Gilgal, after they were circumcised, he shall make the obedient children of God to put off the sins of the flesh completely through the circumcision of Christ. Apostle Paul testified to the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are in Colosse of this:
“In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:…    13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;” (Col.2:11,13)

     Elias, the prophet made intercession to God against Israel, “Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.”(Rom. 11:3) God spoke to him, “I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.”(Rom. 11:4)
Apostle Paul also testified of this, “Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.”(Rom. 11:5)

     Now, the end time, there seems to be few that are sanctified through the words of God, and putting off the sins of the flesh, but there must be the remnant of faithful believers hiding themselves, as the remnant of Israel were circumcised after they crossed over Jordan. When Lord Jesus appear in the air, the remnant shall form a body to enter the banquet of the marriage supper of the Lamb as a bride of Christ (Rev. 19:7-9)

     As Elias that was left alone suffering in the land of Israel, there are still many faithful remnant that never compromise with the god of the world, but sanctify with the words of God, and put off the sins of the flesh, and suffer with Christ led by the Spirit, and walk in the lonely journey looking forward the city of promise. Wherever they may go, the Holy Ghost shall lead their way to make their path holy land. King David, the faithful servant of God confessed:
“Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.”(Ps. 139:5)

     It is the very time when we are to put off the sins of the flesh unto holiness. The Holy Ghost spoke again through Apostle Peter again, “Be ye holy; for I am holy.”(1Pet. 1:16) Jesus also said through his prayer, “17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.    18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.  19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; “(John 17:17-20)

Yea! Lord Jesus prayed for not only his disciples, but also for us to be sanctified through the word of the truth of God. Apostle Peter testified of this: “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:”(1Pet. 1:22)

     We are to engrave in our heart knowing that the angel of the Lord lead the way to fight with the enemy for them that is sanctified. Even the children of God cannot expect for walking with God, unless they are holy. As the remnant of Israel, let us roll away the reproach of the world through the spiritual circumcision to have the victorious life in the midst of holiness through obeying the words of God!
