성시: 시편 139:1-24

제목: 자신을 성결케 하여 내일을 대비하라!
이스라엘의 남은 자들이 여호수아를 따라 요단을 완전히 건넌 후에 길갈에서 진을 쳤다. 그곳에서 그들은 이집트의 모든 치욕을 굴러보냈기에 그곳의 이름을 길갈이라 칭했다. 이때에 요단 서편에 있는 아모리인의 왕을 비롯하여 가나안 인의 모든 왕들이 하나님께서 요단 물을 마르게 하셨다는 소식을 듣고 그들의 마음이 녹았고 정신이 없을 지경이 되었었다.
그러나 이제는 정 반대의 일이 생겼다. 아이를 얕보고 삼천 명의 군사를 보냈으나 오히려 그들이 패하여 도망하는 신세가 되었으며 약 삼십육 명의 군사가 전사하게 되었던 것이다. 이번에는 아모리인들로 인하여 두려워함으로 백성들의 마음이 녹아내리게 되었다. 그들이 하나님의 말씀에 순종하면서 자신들을 성결케 하였을 때에는 아모리인들의 마음이 녹아내렸고, 이제는 이스라엘 백성들의 마음이 아모리인들로 인하여 녹아내린 것이다.

     여호수아가 자기 옷을 찢고 그와 이스라엘의 장로들이 주의 궤 앞에서 땅에 엎드려 머리에 티끌을 쓰고 저녁 무렵까지 있으면서 여호수아가 하나님께 부르짖었다:
“슬프도소이다. 오 주 하나님이여, 어찌하여 주께서는 이 백성을 인도하여 요단을 건너게 하시고 우리를 아모리인의 손에 넘겨주어 멸망시키려 하시나이까? 하나님께서 우리를 만족케 하시고 요단 건너 편에 거하게 하셨다면! 오 주여 이스라엘이 그들의 원수 앞에 등을 돌렸으니 내가 무엇을 말하리이까? 카나안인과 그 땅의 모든 거민이 그것을 듣고 우리를 둘러싸서 우리의 이름을 땅으로부터 끊으리니 주께서는 주의 크신 이름을 어찌하시려나이까?(7-9절)

     하나님께서는 그 모든 일이 이스라엘의 범죄함으로 인한 것임을 말씀하셨다. 단 한 사람 아간이 죄를 범했음에도 하나님께서는 이스라엘이 죄를 지었다고 말씀하신 것이다. 하나님의 판결문이 낭독되었다:
“이스라엘이 죄를 지었고 그들은 내가 그들에게 명한 나의 언약도 어겼나니, 이는 그들이 저주받은 물건을 취하고 도둑질하고 속여서 심지어는 그것을 자기들의 사물 가운데 두었느니라. 그러므로 이스라엘 자손이 그들 원수 앞에 설 수 없었고 그들 원수 앞에서 그들이 등을 돌렸으니 이는 그들이 저주를 받았기 때문이라. 너희가 그 저주받은 것을 너희 가운데서 멸하지 아니하면 내가 다시는 너희와 함께 있지 아니하리라.”(11-12절)
하나님께서는 여리고를 정복하기 전에 미리 경고하셨었다:“너희는 어찌하든 저주받은 물건으로부터 스스로 주의하여 저주받은 물건을 취해서 너희 자신도 저주받지 않도록 하고 이스라엘의 진영으로 저주받거나 고통을 당하지 않도록 하라. 그러나 모든 은과 금과 놋과 철 기명들은 주께 바쳐서 그것을 주의 보고로 들여와야 하리라.”(6:18-19)
죄에 대한 판결을 내리신 하나님께서는 즉시 그 저주로부터 회복하시기 위하여 행할 바를 말씀하시면서 “백성을 성결케 하라.”고 말씀하셨다. 동시에 백성들에게,  자신을 성결케 하여 내일을 대비하고 그들 가운데 저주받은 물건을 제거하기 전에는 그들의 원수 앞에 설 수 없으므로 지파별로, 족속별로, 가족대로, 남자들을 불러내어 저주받은 물건과 함께 뽑힌 자를 그 소유와 함께 불로 태울 것을 여호수아로 하여금 선포하게 하셨다. 결국 유다 지파의 세라의 증손이며, 삽디의 손자요, 칼미의 아들인 아칸이 뽑혔다. 하나님께서는 그 많은 무리 가운데 한 사람 아칸을 뽑아네신 것이다. 마침내 모든 이스라엘이 그를 돌로 치고 또 불태워버렸다. 또한 그 위에 큰 돌 무더기를 쌓았더니 주께서 그의 분노의 열화에서 돌이키셨다.

     오늘날에도 범인을 붙잡기 위하여 CCTV를 통하여서도 쉽게 찾아내는데 하물며 전지하시고 전재하시고 전능하신 하나님께서 어느 누구라도 찾아내실 수 있는 것은 전혀 이상한 일이 못되는 것이다. 다윗은 “주께서는 나의 앉고 서는 것을 아시며 나의 생각을 멀리서도 이해하시나이다. 주께서는 나의 길과 나의 눕는 것을 샅샅이 아시며 나의 모든 길을 익히 아시나이다….내가 주의 영으로부터 벗어나 어디로 가며 주의 면전에서 벗어나 어디로 피하리이까? 내가 하늘에 올라갈지라도 주께서는 거기 계시며 내가 지옥에 잠자리를 마련한다 하여도, 보소서, 주께서는 거기 계시나이다.”(시 139:2,3,7,8)라고 고백했다.

     하나님께서는 오늘날까지도 이스라엘을 민족적으로 징치하고 계심을 볼 수 있다. 그러나 하나님의 자녀들은 개인적으로 다루시는 것이다. 그들을 장차 제사장 민족으로서 그리스도와 함께 온 땅을 다스릴 민족으로 택하셨기 때문인 것이다.  오늘날 그리스도인들에게는 음행과 부정과 사욕과 악한 색욕과 탐심으로 인하여 하나님의 진노가 불순종의 자녀들 위에 임한다고 사도 바울이 경고했다 (골 3:5-6) 이스라엘 온 민족이 십일조와 제물을 드리지 않았을 때 하나님께서 저주하시면서 축복받는 비결을 말씀하셨다:“사람이 하나님의 것을 도둑질하겠느냐? 그러나 너희는 내 것을 도둑질하였도다. 그래도 너희는 말하기를 ‘우리가 어떻게 주의 것을 도둑질하였나이까?’ 하니, 십일조와 제물들이라. 너희가 저주로 저주를 받았으니, 이는 너희와 이 온 민족이 나의 것을 도둑질하였음이라. 만군의 주가 말하노니, 너희는 모든 십일조를 창고에 들여와 내 집에 식량이 있게 하고, 이제 그것으로 나를 시험하여 내가 하늘의 창문들을 열어 너희에게 복을 부어주지 않나 보라. 그것을 받을 만한 충분한 장소가 없으리라.”(말 3:8-10) 천년왕국에 들어갈 하나님의 백성들도 성결해야 하는데 그리스도의 신부로 뽑힌 거듭난 하나님의 자녀들이야말로 흠도 없고 점도 없이 거룩하여야 할 것이다.
사도 바울은 고린도교회 성도들에게 경건한 질투를 느낀다고 말하면서 “내가 너희를 한 남편에게 정혼시켰나니 이는 한 순결한 처녀로 너희를 그리스도께 바치려는 것이라.”(고후 11:2)고 증거했다.
또한 에베소 교회 성도들에게 “그러므로 너희는 사랑받는 자녀들로서 하나님을 따르는 자가 되라. 그리스도께서 우리를 사랑하시어 우리를 위하여 자신을 하나님 앞에 향기로운 냄새를 내는 제물로 희생으로 드린 것같이 너희도 사랑 안에서 행하라….그가 교회를 말씀에 의한 물로 씻어 거룩하게 하시고 깨끗게 하사 자기 앞에 영광스러운 교회로 나타내서 점이나 주름진 것이나 또한 그러한 것들이 없이 거룩하고 흠 없게 하려 하심이니라.”(엡 5:1-2,26-27))고 권면했다.
또한 데살로니가 교회 성도들에게 “화평의 하나님께서 너희를 온전히 거룩하게 하시고 너희의 온 영과 혼과 몸이 주 예수 그리스도께서 오실 때 때까지 책망할 것이 없게 보존되기를 하나님께 기도하노라.”(살전 5:23)고 증거했다.
사도 베드로는 마지막 때에 살고 있는 그리스도인들에게  엄중하게 권면했다: “만물의 마지막이 가까웠으니 그러므로 너희는 정신을 차리고 깨어 기도하라. 무엇보다도 서로 뜨겁게 사랑하라. 이는 사랑이 허다한 죄를 덮기 때문이라…..그러나 만일 너희가 그리스도인으로서 고난을 당하면 부끄러워하지 말고 오히려 그 일로 인하여 하나님께 영광을 돌리라. 이는 하나님의 집에서 심판을 시작해야 할 때가 되었음이니 만일 그 심판이 우리에게서부터 먼저 시작되면 하나님의 복음에 순종하지 않는 자들의 종말은 어떻겠느냐? 그러므로 하나님의 뜻에 따라 고난을 받는 사람들은 선을 행하면서, 신실한 창조주께 그들의 혼을 맡길지어다.”(벧전 4:7-8,16-19)
주님의 마지막 기도를 기억하며 진리의 말씀 안에서 거룩함에 이르도록 인내하며 달려가자! “아버지의 진리로 그들을 거룩하게 하여 주옵소서. 아버지의 말씀은 진리니이다.”(요 17:17) 아멘! 그러하옵니다! 할렐루야!

Subject: Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow!
The remnant of Israel crossed over Jordan completely; and encamped in Gilgal that means  “This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you.” And it came to pass, when all the king of the Amorites, which were on the side of westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until they were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

     But, now, something totally opposite happened to pass. They sent only three thousand men to Ai to fight; and they fled before the men of Ai. And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men to death. Now the hearts of the people of Israel melted, and became as water fearing the Amorites. When they obeyed the word of God, and sanctify themselves, the hearts of the Amorites melted; but now their hearts melted because of the Amorites.
Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, and cried to the LORD:
   “Alas, O LORD God, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!  😯 LORD, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies! 9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?”(vss 7-9)

     The LORD God told him that Israel had sinned, and they had also transgressed his covenant which h commanded. Even though only a man, Achan sinned, God said that Israel sinned. Now the LORD gave a sentence to them:

 “11Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.  12Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. “(vss 11-12)

     The LORD God already had warned them before they occupied with Jericho:  “ 18And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. 19But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD. “(6:18-19)
     Upon giving the judgment against their sin, the LORD asked them what to do to be delivered the curse saying, “Sanctify the people.” And asked him to say to them, Sanctify themselves against tomorrow. They cannot stand before their enemies, until they take away the accursed things from them. He was asked to bring according to the tribes, and families, and households, and man. And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has. Finally Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, the son of the tribe of Judah, was taken. Achan was taken by the LORD among the people. After all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones. And they raised over him a great heap of stones. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger.

     Even through investigation using CCTV criminals could be found out, nothing is impossible for the LORD God of OMNISCIENCE, OMNIPOTENT, and OMNI PRESENCE. David confessed of the Almighty God:
“2Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.  3Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways….   7Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?   8If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. “(Ps 139:2,3,7,8)

       Until now, the LORD God has been dealing with Israel as a nation, not individually, for they were chosen as the nation of priest so that they may reign with the LORD in the earth in the future; but for the children of God, he deals with individual. Apostle Paul warned  toward Christians, Saying , the wrath of God comes upon the children of disobedience because of fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness (Col. 3:5-6) When whole nation of Israel stole tithes and offerings, God cursed them and showed the way of blessing: “ 8Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me.  But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.   9Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.  10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”(Mal 3:8-10)  Since the people of God are to be sanctified to enter the Millennium of Christ, the children of God should be much more holy without spot and without blemish.    

   Apostle Paul testified to the saints of Corinthians church:“2For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.”(2Cor 11:2)
He also testified to the saints of Ephesians church:
“1Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;  2And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. …26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,  27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”(Eph 5:1,2,26,27)
For Thessalonians church he encouraged:
 “ 23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”(1Thes 5:23)
     Apostle Peter awakened the children of God at end time:
 “7But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.  8And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins..…  16Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?  18And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?  19Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.”(1Pet 4:7,8,16-19)
     Let us run the race of faith with patience unto holiness in the word of truth remembering the last prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ!
“17Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”(John 17:17) Amen! So! Hallellujah!
