성시: 시편 34:1-22
본문: 여호수아 8:1-35
제목: 회개하는 자에게 주시는 하나님의 위로
탐심으로 인하여 온 이스라엘에게 죄를 가져온 아칸을 돌로 치고 불태운 후에 하나님의 분노가 사라진 후 다시 하나님께서 여호수아에게 위로의 메시지를 주셨다. 그것은 여호수아를 처음 부르셨을 때 주셨던 말씀이었다(1:9). “너는 두려워 말고 낙심치 말라.”하나님께서는 회개의 합당한 열매를 맺는 자들을 즉시 위로하시는 분이신 것이다. 하나님의 자녀들 역시 탐심을 낼 때 하나님의 진노가 임하지만 즉시 회개할 때 성령님의 위로를 받게 되는 것이다. 사도 바울은 성령의 위로에 대하여 증거했다:
“내 아들아, 주의 징계를 경시하지 말고, 책망을 받을 때에 낙심하지 말라. 주께서 그의 사랑하시는 자를 징계하시고, 그가 받으시는 아들마다 매질하시느니라.”(히 12:5-6)

    그러나 회개하지 않는 자들은 하나님의 위로를 맛볼 수 없는 것이다. 침례인 요한은 회개치 않는 바리새인들과 사두개인들을 향하여 외쳤다:오 독사들의 세대야, 누가 너희에게 다가오는 진노에서 피하라고 경고하더냐? 그러므로 회개에 합당한 열매를 맺고 ‘아브라함이 우리의 조상이라고,’고 너희 속으로 말하려 생각지 말라. 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 하나님께서 이 돌들로도 아브라함의 자손이 되게 하실 수 있느니라. 또한 이제 도끼가 나무 뿌리에 놓였으니, 그러므로 좋은 열매를 맺지 못하는 나무마다 찍혀 불 속에 던져지리라.”(마 3:7-10)

     이스라엘이 회개하였을 때 “내가 아이 왕과 그의 백성과 그의 성읍과 그의 땅을 네 손에 주었노라.”(1절)고 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. 이번에는 그곳의 탈취물과 가축을 전리품으로 백성들이 취할 것을 말씀하셨다. 여리고 성을 정복했을 때에는 모든 은과 금과 놋과 철 기명들은 모두 주께 바치라고 하셨는데 이번에는 탈취물들을 모두 백성들에게 주신 것이다. 하나님께서는 모든 소산의 첫 열매들을 받으시고 축복하시기를 원하심을 알 수 있다. 이에 대하여 잠언 기자는 증거했다:
“네 재물과 네 모든 소산물의 첫열배들로 주를 공경하라. 그리하면 네 창고가 가득 차고 네 포도즙틀에서는 새 포도주가 넘치리라.”(잠 3:9-10)

     거듭난 하나님의 자녀들 역시 군사로 뽑힌 자들이다. 군사로 뽑힌 자들은 하나님의 전신갑옷을 입고 영적으로 무장하여야 하며 마귀와 싸울 전략을 기도를 통하여 세워야 하는 것이다. 사도 바울은 영적 전쟁에 대하여 강력하게 증거했다:
“끝으로 나의 형제들아, 주 안에서와 그의 힘의 능력 안에서 강건하라. 너희는 마귀의 술책에 대항하여 설 수 있도록 하나님의 전신 갑옷을 입으라. 이는 우리의 싸움이 혈과 육에 대항하는 것이 아니라 정사들과 권세들과 이 세상 어두움의 주관자들과 높은 곳들에 있는 영적 악에 대항하려는 것이기 때문이라. 그러므로 너희는 하나님의 전신갑옷을 입으라. 이는 너희가 악한 날에 저항할 수 있으며 또 모든 일을 다 이루기까지 서 있을 수 있게 하기 위함이니라. 그러므로 서서 진리로 너희의 허리띠를 두루고 의의 흉배를 붙이고 화평의 복음을 준비한 것으로 너희 발에 신고 모든 것 위에 믿음의 방패를 가짐으로써 능히 너희가 악한 자의 모든 불붙은 화살을 끌 수 있을 것이라. 또한 구원의 투구와 성령의 칼, 곧 하나님의 말씀을 가지고 모든 기도와 간구로 항상 성령 안에서 기도하고 이를 위하여 모든 성도들을 위해 모든 인내와 간구로 깨어 있으라.”(엡 6:10-18)

     하나님께서는 아이 성뿐만 아니라 벧엘에 있는 모든 사람들까지 칼날로 모두 죽게 하셨다. 이 얼마나 잔인한 결과인가? 우리는 이를 통하여 오래 참으시는 하나님께서 심판주로 오실 때 그분을 믿지 않은 사람들은 어떻게 심판하실지에 대하여 미리 보여주시는 것이다. 지금은 사랑을 베푸시면서 은혜의 복음을 통해 회개하고 주 예수 그리스도를 믿으라고 간청하시지만 때가 차면 공의의 하나님의 칼날이 무차별로 죄인들과 악인들을 죽이실 심판의 날을 기억하면서 복음을 전해야 할 것이다. 사도 요한은 마지막 심판의 날을 성령 안에서 미리 보면서 증거했다:
“또 내가 하늘이 열린 것을 보니 흰 말이 보이더라. 그 위에 앉으신 분은 신실과 진실이라 불리며 의로 심판하고 싸우시더라.  그의 눈은 불꽃같고 머리에는 많은 왕관이 있고 또 한 이름이 기록되어 있는데 그 자신 외에는 아무도 모르며 피에 적신 옷을 입었는데 그의 이름은 하나님의 말씀이라 불리더라. 또 하늘에 있는 군대들이 희고 정결한 세마포를 입고 흰 말들을 타고 그를 따르더라. 그의 입에서는 예리한 칼이 나와서 그것으로 민족들을 칠 것이며, 그는 전능하신 하나님의 맹렬한 진노의 포도즙틀을 밟으실 것이라.”(계 19:11-15)

     전쟁에 승리한  후 여호수아는 에발 산에 이스라엘의 주 하나님을 향하여 제단을 쌓았다. 율법책에 기록된 대로 철 연장으로 손대지 않은 통들로 만든 제단이었다. 또한 그들은 주께 번제와 화목제를 그 위에 드렸다.또한 그 후에 여호수아는 율법책에 기록된 모든 것대로 율법의 모든 말씀, 복들과 저주들을 낭독하였다. 여호수아보다 더 위대하신 하나님이신 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서는 우리가 범한 율법의 모든 죄들를 위하여 자신을 희생제물로 드림으로써 우리 대신 하나님께 번제와 회목제물이 되셨던 것이다.사도 바울은 우리가 받은 이 은혜에 대하여 증거했다:“그러므로 이제 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 자들에게는 결코 정죄함이 없나니, 그들은 육신을 따라 행하지 아니하고 성령을 따라 행하느니라. 이는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법이 죄와 사망의 법에서 나를 해방시켰기 때문이라. 율법이 육신을 통하여서는 연약하여 할 수 없는 것을 하나님께서 죄 때문에 자신의 아들을 죄있는 육신의 모습으로 보내 그 육신에 죄를 선고하셨으니 이는 율법의 의가 우리 안에서 이루어지게 하려 함이라. 이는 우리는 육신을 따라 행하지 않고 성령을 따라 행하는 자들이라.”(롬 8:1-4)

     주 예수 그리스도께서 십자가에서 죽으셨다가 셋째 날에 부활하심으로써 죄와 사망의 권세 잡은 자 마귀를 이기셨다. 누구든지 그분을 따라 순종하는 자들은 이미 영적 전쟁에서 이긴 자들인 것이다. 여호수아보다 더 위대하신 하나님이신 주 예수 그리스도께서 우리의 대장되시니 그분의 군사가 되어야 하는 것이다. 아버지께서는 우리의 대장이신 우리 주님께 이미 이방을 유업으로 땅의 맨 끝을 소유로 주셨기 때문이다(시 2:8) 그러므로 그리스도께 순종하는 온유한 자들은 이 땅을 차지할 것을 성경이 말씀하시는 것이다:“온유한 자들은 복이 있나니, 그들이 땅을 유업으로 받을 것임이요.”(마 5:5)
“잠시 후면 악인이 없어지리니 정녕, 네가 그가 있던 곳을 열심히 찾을지라도 그것이 없을 것이라. 그러나 온유한 자들은 땅을 유업으로 받을 것이요, 화평의 풍요함으로 기뻐하리로다.”(시 37:10-11)

      우리가 죄인되었을 때 자신의 몸을 우리 죄를 위하여 번제와 화목제를 드리신 주 예수 그리스도께 순종함으로 그분의 은혜의 복음을 전하는 일에 헌신하는 그리스도의 군사가 되자! 이 길만이 그분의 은혜에 보답하는 것이며 그분과 함께 이 땅에 올 때에 그분과 함께 다스리는 축복을 누리게 될 것이다. 사도 바울은 이 복에 대하여 증거했다:
“그러므로 내가 택함받은 자들을 위하여 모든 것을 참음은 그들도 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 구원을 영원한 영광과 함꼐 얻게 하려 함이라. 이 말씀은 신실하도다. 우리가 그와 함꼐 죽었으면 또한 그와 함께 살리라. 우리가 참으면 우리도 그와 함께 다스릴 것이요 우리가 그를 부인하면 그도 우리를 부인할 것이라.”(딤후 2:10-12) 그리스도의 군사가 되어 승리의 삶을 살자! 할렐루야!

Meditation: Psalms 34:1-22

Subject: Comfort of God for them that repent

     After Israel stoned Achan with stones, and burnt him with fire, for he brought sin of covetousness to Israel, the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger, and he gave the message of comfort. That message was the same one as what the LORD gave him when he was called by the LORD (1:9): “Fear not, neither be thou dismayed.” God still want to comfort them that bring forth fruits meet for repentance. The wrath of God comes upon the children of disobedience for covetousness’ sake, but God is willing to comfort them when they repent. Apostle Paul testified of the comfort of God:  “5And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:  6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”(Heb 12:5-6)

      But the comfort of God cannot be tasted by the one that never repents. John the Baptist cried out to Pharisees and Sadducees that not repented: “O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?  8Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:  9And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.   10And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.”(Matt 3:7-10)

     When Israel repented their sin, the LORD spoke to Joshua:
“ I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:”(v1) This time the LORD asked them to take the cattle thereof, and take for the prey unto themselves. When they conquered Jericho, they were asked to bring all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron unto LORD. But now they were to take all the prey for them. God want to bless the children of God with the first fruits. The writer of Proverb testified of this: “9Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:   10So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”(Prov 3:9-10)

     The born again children of God are also chosen to be the armies of Christ. They have to be armed spiritually wearing the whole armor of God, and have to build the strategy against the Devil. Apostle Paul testified of spiritual warfare: 
“10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;  15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:  18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; “(Eph 6:10-18)

      The LORD smote them all with the edge of the sword not only in Ai but in Bethel. What a cruel scene it is! This shows us how the LORD judges them that never believe on him when he comes again after long suffering. Now he stretching his hand of loves them to repent and receive the gospel of grace, and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. But time is up, the sword of God of righteousness shall smite the sinners and the wicked; this is the reason why we have to evangelize. Apostle John testified of the Day of Judgment seeing in the Spirit: 
 “ 11And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.  12His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.  13And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.”(Rev 19:11-15)

     After victory, Joshua built an alter unto the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal. As it is written in the book of law of Moses, an alter of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron; and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings. And afterward he read all the words of law, the blessings and cursings according to all that written in the book of law. Our Lord Jesus Christ, our God much greater than Joshua sacrificed himself for all our sins of the law to be the burnt offerings and peace offerings for us. Apostle Paul testified of such grace given unto us: “1There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”(Rom 8:1-4)
     Our Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again the third day to overcome the Devil that has the power of sin and death. Whosoever obeys him is already having won the spiritual warfare. The Lord Jesus Christ, our God much greater than Joshua is our great commander, therefore we are to be his soldiers.  Our Father God has already given him the Heathen for his inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for his possession (Ps 2:8). The scripture says, the meek obedient to Christ shall receive the earth as the inheritance:
“5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”(Matt 5:5)   “10For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. 11But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”(Ps 37 10-11)
     When we were sinners, the Lord Jesus Christ sacrificed himself as the burnt offering and peace offering for our sins; this is the reason why we should be soldiers of Christ dedicating ourselves for the gospel of grace. This is the only way to answer his grace; and we shall be blessed with him reigning with him in the earth when he comes again. Apostle Paul testified of this blessing: 
 “ 10Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:  12If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: “(2Tim 2:10-12)
Let us have a victorious life being the army of Christ! Hallelujah!
