성시:  시편 81:1-16

본문: 여호수아 23:1-16

제목: 성령 안에서 안식하자!

     하나님께서는 여호수아를 통하여 이스라엘의 모든 주위의 원수들로부터 이스라엘에게 안식을 주셨다. 여호수아는 이제 나이 많고 늙었다. 그는 마지막으로 이스라엘 사람들에게 유언을 했다. 주 하나님께서 그들을 위하여 모든 민족들에게 행하신 것과 하나님께서 직접 개입하셔서 모든 민족들과 싸우셨던 일을 상기시켰으며 그들이 정복한 땅을 유업으로 나눠주신 사실을 상기시켰다. 또한 앞으로도 그 모든 민족들을 계속해서 그 땅에서 몰아내실 것을 말하면서 주 하나님께서 그들에게 약속하신대로 그들의 땅을 차지할 것이라고 증거했다.

     이 모든 사실을 그들에게 다시 한 번 상기시키면서 여호수아는 마지막으로 그들에게 당부했다.

   첫째, 그들이 모세의 율법에 기록된 모든 것을 지켜 행하고, 죄우로 치우치지 말것.

   둘째, 그들 가운데 남아 있는 민족들에게 가지 말며 그들의 신들의 이름도 부르지 말고, 그들을 두고 맹세하지도 말며 그들을 섬기지도 말고, 절하지도 말 것.

   셋째, 그들이 그때까지 행한 것처럼 오직 주 하나님께 밀착할 것.

   넷째, 스스로 주의하여 주 하나님을 사랑할 것.

     또한 그들에게 다시 한 번 약속의 말씀을 주셨다:

“너희 중에 한 명이 천 명을 쫓아내리니 이는 주 너희 하나님께서 너희에게 약속하신 대로 너희를 위하여 싸우시는 그분이시니라.”(10절)

동시에 경고의 말씀도 주셨다:“만일 너희가 어떤 식으로든 뒤돌아서서 이런 민족들의 남은 자, 즉 너희 가운데 남아 있는 이들에게 밀착하여 혼인하고 그들에게 들어가고, 그들이 너희에게 들어가면 분명히 알지니, 주 너희 하나님께서 이들 민족들 중 누구도 너희 앞에서 다시는 쫓아내지 아니하실 것이요, 도리어 그들이 너희에게 올무와 덫이 되며 너희 옆구리에는 채찍이, 너희 눈에는 가시가 되어서 주 너희 하나님께서 너희에게 주신 이 아름다운 땅에서 멸망할 때까지 그리하리라….너희가 주 너희 하나님께서 너희에게 명하신 그의 언약을 범하고 가서 다른 신들을 섬겨 절하면 주의 분노가 너희를 향하여 일어나리니, 그리하면 너희는 그가 너희에게 주신 그 좋은 땅에서 속히 멸망하리라.””(12,13,16절)

     여호수아가 죽은 후 재판관들(사사들) 시대에 가면서부터 그들은 하나님의 경고를 무시하고 이방신들을 섬기면서 계속해서 그들은 하나님의 징계를 받았다. 선지자 사무엘 때에 그들은 하나님 대신에 사람을 왕으로 세워줄 것을 요청하기에 이르렀다 (삼상 8:1-5) 이때 사무엘이 근심하면서 하나님께 기도하였을 때, 주께서 그에게 말씀하셨다:“백성이 네게 말하는 모든 일에 있어서 그들의 음성에 경청하라. 그들이 너를 거역함이 아니요, 나를 거역하여 나로 그들을 다스리지 못하게 하려는 것이라. 내가 그들을 이집트에서 인도하여 낸 그날부터오늘에 이르기까지 그들이 행한 모든 일, 즉 그들이 나를 버리고 다른 신들을 섬기더니 네게도 그렇게 행하는도다. 그러므로 이제 그들의 음성에 경청하라. 그러나 아직은 그들에게 엄숙히 경고하고, 그들을 치리할 왕의 제도를 그들로 알게 하라.”(삼상 8:6-9)

     그들이 세운 왕들도 결국은 하나님을 섬기지 않고 불순종하다가 결국에는 바벨론과 앗시리아에 의해 망하였고 계속해서 이방 나라들의 통치를 받았으며 로마 통치 하에 있었을 때 그들의 왕이신 주 예수 그리스도까지 십자가에 죽이는 죄를 짓게 된 것이다. 그들은 지난 이천 년 동안 나라가 회복될 때까지 세상 나라들에 흩어짐을 당하였으며 세계 대전 때 홀로커스트의 비극까지 당하였던 것이다. 그들은 지금까지도 그들이 죽인 하나님의 아들 주 예수 그리스도를 부인하면서 앞으로 나타날 적그리스도를 맞이할 준비를 하면서도 깨닫지 못하고 있는 것이다. 그러나 그들은 그들의 왕이신 주님께서 나타나실 때에 민족적인 회개를 하게 될 것이다. 선지자 스카랴는 이에 대하여 증거했다:

“또 내가 다윗의 집과 예루살렘의 거민들 위에 은혜와 간구의 영을 부어주리라. 그러면 그들은 그들이 찔렀던 나를 나를 쳐다볼 것이며, 그들이 그를 위하여 애통하리니, 마치 어떤 사람이 자기 외아들을 위하여 애통함같이 할 것이요, 그들이 그를 위하여 비통에 잠기리니 마치 어떤 사람이 자기 첫 아들을 위하여 비통에 잠기듯 하리라… 그 날에 다윗의 집과 예루살렘 거민들 위에죄와 불결을 씻는 샘이 열리리라.”(슥 12:10; 13:1)

     사도 바울은 여호수아보다 더 크신 주 예수 그리스도께서 오실 때 마침내 그들에게 영원한 안식이 주어질 것을 증거했다:

“만일 예수가 그들에게 안식을 주었더라면 하나님께 그 후에 다른 날을 말씀하지 아니하셨으리라. 그러므로 하나님의 백성에게는 한 안식이 남아있도다. 그의 안식에 들어간 사람은 하나님께서 자기 일에서 쉬신 것같이 그도 자신의 일에서 쉬었느니라. 그러므로 우리가 그 안식에 들어가도록 힘써야 하리니 이는 아무도 똑같은 믿음 없음의 본에 빠지지 않게 하려 함이라.”(히 4:8-11)

     그렇다! 이스라엘의 불순종과 보응을 통하여 성령님께서 사도 바울을 통하여 오늘날 우리에게 말씀하신다. 우리가 성령님의 인도 하에 하나님의 말씀에 순종하지 않으면 이 세상에서 안식을 누릴 수 없다는 것이다. 항상 말씀 앞에서 자신을 내어놓고 은혜의 보좌에 나아가 회개하면서 자비를 얻고 의롭게 되어 성령 안에 거하여야 하는 것이다. 육신의 일들을 벗어버리고 성령으로 행하여야 하는 것이다. 육신적으로 생각하는 것은 사망이지만 영적으로 생각하는 것은 생명과 화평이기 때문이다 (롬 8:6). 영적인 생각은 영이신 하나님의 말씀을 믿고 순종하는 삶인 것이다. 이것이 바로 이 세상에 사는 동안 우리가 누려야 할 안식인 것이다. 사도 바울은 이에 대하여 증거했다:

“하나님의 나라는 먹고 마시는 것이 아니라 다만 성령 안에서 의와 화평과 기쁨이라.”(롬 14:17) 할렐루야!

Meditation: Psalms 81:1-16

Subject: Have rest in the Holy Spirit

     The LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about given rest unto through Joshua. Joshua waxed old and stricken in age. He left a final word unto Israel saying, Ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you. I have divided unto you by lot these nations that remain, to be inheritance for your tribes. He also witnessed saying, The Lord your God shall expel them before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath promised unto you.

     Reminding all of these things, he encouraged them as his last counseling:

      Firstly, be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the Law of Moses that ye turn not aside there from to the right hand or to the left.

     Secondly, ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them nor bow yourselves unto them.

     Thirdly, cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.

     Fourthly, take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love the LORD your God.

     And they were given the word of promise again:

     ^“10One man of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promised you.”(V10)

And also the word of warning was given unto them:

   “¹²Else if ye do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:   ¹³Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you. …¹⁶When ye have transgressed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them; then shall the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.”(V12,13,16)

     After Joshua died, they had been involved in worshipping the gods of the Gentiles all through the days of judges ignoring the warning of the LORD, and chastened by the LORD. At the time of Prophet Samuel, they asked him to make their king among them forsaking the LORD God (1Sam 8:1-5) When Samuel prayed to the LORD with worry and concern, The LORD spoke unto him:

  “⁶But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. ⁷And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.⁸According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.  ⁹Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. “(1Sam 8:6-9)

     Their kings also ended up with not serving the LORD. Finally, they had to be under salves of the Gentile nations such as Babylon and Assyria. When they were under control of Romans, they crucified even their king the Lord Jesus Christ to death. They had to be scattered in the all nations for two thousand years until they restore the nation of Israel; and millions of Jews were killed during the World War II. Until now they have been denying the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God; they don’t understand that they have been preparing the Anti-Christ as their Messiah. But when the LORD KING appears, they shall repent among all Israel. Prophet Zechariah testified:

 “¹⁰And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn…   ¹In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness.”(Zech 12:10; 13:1)

     Apostle Paul testified of the eternal rest that shall be given unto them when he comes again:

“⁸For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.    ⁹There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.  ¹⁰For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.  ¹Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. “(Heb. 4:8-11)

     Yes! The Holy Ghost speaks unto us through Apostle Paul seeing their disobedience and the result thereof. There can be no rest unless we obey the word of God being led by the Spirit. Opening ourselves before the word of God, and come forward to the throne of grace repenting our sins to have mercy and righteousness, we have to be in the presence of the Holy Spirit always. We have to walk in the Spirit, putting off the things of the flesh. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace (Rom. 8:6). The spiritual mind is the life of obeying the word of God that is spirit, and obey it. This is the very rest that we are to have during the earthly life. Apostle Paul testified of this:

   “¹⁷For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”(Romans 14:17) Hallelujah!
