성시: 시편 13:1-6

본문: 로마서 8:1-13

제목: 하나님을 기쁘시게하는 삶

    전도서를 기록한 솔로몬 왕은 그의 삶을 마치면서 여러가지 깨달은 것들을 고백했다”

“만물은 수고로 가득 찼으나 사람이 그것을 표현할 수 없으니, 눈은 보는 것으로 만족하지 못하며 귀는 듣는 것으로 채워지지 않는도다.”(전 1:8)

“내가 해 아래서 행해지는 모든 일들을 보았는데, 보라, 모든 것이 헛되며 영의 고통이라.”(전 1:14)

“내가 지혜를 알고 미친 것과 어리석은 것을 알기 위하여 내 마음을 썼으나, 이것 역시 영의 고통임을 알았도다. 지혜가 많으면 슬픔도 많으니, 지식을 늘리는 사람은 슬픔을 늘리는 것이라.”(전 1:17-18)

“내가 웃음에 관하여 말하기를  ‘미친 것이라.’ 하였고, 환락에 관하여 말하기를 ‘그것이 무엇을 하였는가?’ 하였도다.”(전 2:2)

“내가 삶을 미워하였나니, 이는 해 아래서 행해지는 일이 내게 슬픔이기 때문이라. 모든 것이 헛되고 영의 고통이라.”(전 2:17)

“눈으로 보는 것이 마음의 공상보다 나으나, 이것도 헛되어 영의 고통이라.”(전 6:9)

      육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 생의 자랑을 마음껏 추구했던 대표적인 인물이 내렸던 결론이다. 동시에 죄의 값으로 인해 죽어가던 죄인의 비참한 삶을 대표적으로 묘사한 것이다. 우리 육신의 조상들도 인생의 무상을 노래하며 사라져간 것을 역사가 증명한다. 그럼에도 인생들은 세상에 속한 세 가지 욕심을 채워보려고 동분서주하면서 그것조차 거의 이루어보지 못하고 덫과 같은 죽음을 맞이하면서 죽어가는 것을 본다. 시편 기자는 이렇게 덧없이 죽어가는 인생들을 향해 “사람이 존귀할지라도 오래 살지 못하니 그가 멸망하는 짐승 같도다….사람이 존귀에 처해 있어도 깨닫지 못하면 멸망하는 짐승 같도다.”(시 49:12,20) 라고 외쳤다.

멸망하는 짐승들이 어떻게 하나님을 기쁘시게 할 수 있겠는가? 하나님의 뜻을 깨달아야 짐승이 아닌 진정한 사람이 되며, 사람이 되어 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 자가 존귀한 자라는 증거가 아니겠는가?

     본문 말씀을 통하여, 성령을 통하여 하나님의 생명을 받은 우리들은 육신을 따라 행하는 자들이 아니라 성령을 따라 행하는 축복된 자들임을 말씀하신다. 이미 죽은 육신으로부터 해방되어 성령 안에서 이미 생명을 누리는 자들이란 말씀인 것이다. 그럼에도 여전히 우리는 육신 안에 거하고 있기 때문에 육신적으로 생각하지 말고 영적으로 생각해야만 생명과 평안을 누리면서 헛되지 않은 삶을 누릴 수 있다는 것이다. 마치 에덴에 있던 아담과 이브가 생명 나무와 선악을 알게 하는 지식의 나무를 사이에 두고 자신의 의지대로 선택하였던 것처럼 말이다.

     주님께서는 “살리는 것은 영이니, 육은 전혀 무익하니라. 내가 너희에게 한 말들은 영이요, 생명이라.”(요 6:63)고 말씀하셨다. 다시 말해서 육신의 생각을 버리고 하나님의 말씀을 믿고 행하면 생명이지만 육신의 생각을 따라가면 결국 사망에 이른다는 말씀인 것이다. 사람의 육신 안에는 정욕이 존재하고 있기 때문에 이 정욕은 타락한 사람의 본성이기 때문에 생명이신 하나님과 원수가 되기 때문이다. 하나님께서는 선지자 예레미야를 통하여 사람의 “마음은 만물보다 거짓되고 심히 악하니 누가 그것은 알 수 있으리요?”(렘 17:9)라고 모든 사람에게 이미 경고하셨다.

    구원받아 하나님의 영이 있는 자녀들일지라도 사단은 끊임없이 유혹하여 영이신 하나님의 말씀보다 육신의 생각을 따라 판단하고 행하도록 유도하는 것이다. 다시 말해서 자녀들로 하여금 보고, 듣고, 느끼고, 생각하는 것을 믿고 행하도록 만들어 결국은 사망같은 어두움에 처하도록 하는 것이다. 사도 바울은 고린도교회 성도들을 향하여 “이는 우리가 믿음으로 행하고 보는 것으로 하지 아니함이라.”(고후 5:7)고 증거했다.

     히브리서 기자는 “믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘시게 할 수 없나니, 하나님께 나아가는 자는 그분이 존재하시는 것과 그분이 자기를 열심히 찾는 자들에게 보상하는 분이심을 마땅히 믿어야 할지니라.”(히 11:6)고 증거했다. 그러면 무엇을 믿고 어떻게 하나님을 열심히 찾을 것인가? 사도 바울은 이에 대해 더 구체적으로 증거했다:

“그러므로 믿음 들음에서 나오며 들음은 하나님의 말씀에 의해서니라.”(롬 10:17)

     그렇다! 하나님의 말씀을 열심히 찾아 읽고 듣는 것이 그분을 열심히 찾는 것이다. 그분은 말씀 안에 계시기 때문이다. 말씀을 읽고 들을 때마다 하나님의 음성을 들을 수 있으며 그분의 음성을 들을 때마다 성령의 기름부음을 통하여 그분을 믿게되며, 그분을 믿을 때마다 생영 안에서 행하여 평안을 누리게 되는 것이다. 베드로가 물 위로 걸어오시는 주님으로부터 “내니 두려워말라.”는 음성을 들었을 때 물 위를 걸을 수 있었던 것처럼 삶 속에서 두려움 가운데 있을지라도 말씀을 통하여 주님의 음성을 들을 때 우리도 어려움 위를 걸어서 두려움 없이 평안을 누릴 수 있는 것이다. 우리는 반석같은 하나님의 약속의 말씀을 믿는 위에서만 평안을 누릴 수 있는 것이다. 세상은 점점 악해지면서 어려움이 닥쳐올 것이지만 하나님의 선하심을 믿는 믿음 위에 굳게 서야만 세상을 이길 수 있는 것이다. 이에 대하여 사도 요한은 분명하게 증거했다:“이는 하나님께로부터 태어난 자는 누구든지 세상을 이기기 때문이라. 세상을 이기는 승리는 이것이니, 곧 우리의 믿음이라. 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 자 외에 세상을 이기는 자가 누구냐?”(요일 5:4-5)

   우리를 향한 하나님의 뜻에 관하여 선지자 예레미야는 증거했다: “이는 내가 너희를 향하여 생각하는 그 생각들을 내가 앎이니, 곧 화평의 생각이요, 재앙이 아니라. 기대하던 끝을 너희에게 주리라.”(렘 29:11)

그러므로 하나님을 믿고 사랑하는 자들에게는 모든 일이 선함과 평안으로 결론이 나게 되어 있는 것이다(롬 8:28). 주님께서 제자들에게 “호수 저편으로 건너가자.”하셨을 때 풍랑으로 죽을 뻔 하였지만 주님께서 풍랑을 잔잔케 하심으로 건녀 편에 도착할 수 있었다. 풍랑을 보고 무서워하는 제자들에게 주님께서 “너희의 믿음이 어디 있느냐?”라고 꾸짖으셨다(눅 8:22-25). 이것이 환난 중에서도 도우시는 주님을 믿음으로 기뻐해야 하는 이유인 것이다(롬 5:3). 또한 우리가 기대하는 끝은 하늘에 있는 새 예루살렘이기 때문이다.믿음의 선한 싸움을 싸우며 승리하자!

Meditation: Psalms 13:1-6

Subject: The life pleasing God

     King Solomon, the writer of Ecclesiastes confesses what he had understood finalizing his life:

   “⁸All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.”(Eccl 1:8)

^“14I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.”(Eccl 1:14)

   “17And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.  ¹⁸For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.”(Eccl 1:17-18)

^“2I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?”(Eccl 2:2)

   “¹⁷Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.”(Eccl 2:17)

  “ ⁹Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit.”(Eccl 6:9)

     This was the conclusion made by the one that had pursued the lust of flesh, the lust of eyes, and the pride of life at the most. At the same time it was a miserable sample of a sinner whose life was going to be destroyed to death. Korean history also tells us that our forefathers confessed of the vanity of life. But the people in the world still are busy to pursue the three kinds of lust not to achieve them at all until they are trapped in death suddenly. The Psalmist cried out to the people dying in vain saying, “ ¹²Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.  ²⁰Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.”(Ps 49:12,20)

How a perishing beast could please God? To be a real man not to be a beast, he should be able to understand the will of God. It is only honorable one that pleases God.

      Through the main passage, we that received the life through the Holy Ghost are blessed to walk by the Spirit, not by the flesh. We are already delivered from mortal body to have life in the Spirit. But we are still abiding in the body; we have to think spiritually, not carnally to have peace and life as well as not in vain. We have to utilize our free will as if Adam and Eve did between the life tree and forbidden one.

     Lord Jesus said, “⁶³It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”(John 6:63)

In other word, walking by faith lead to life, bit following the carnal thought to death. Lusts still exist in the flesh of man that is the sinful nature from the birth, and the enmity against God. LORD God had already warned to all men through Prophet Jeremiah:

 “ ⁹The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”(Jer 17:9)

     The Devil still are tempting the children of God so that they may follow their carnal thoughts instead of the word of God that is life. In other word, he seduce his children for them walk by sight, hearing, feeling, and thinking unto the darkness as death. Apostle Paul testified to the saints of Corinthians saying, “ ⁷For we walk by faith, not by sight:”(2Cor 5:7)

     The writer of Hebrews testified:

“⁶But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”(Heb 11:6) Then what can we believe, and how we seek the God diligently? Apostle Paul explained about it, saying,    “¹⁷So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”(Rom 10:17)

     Yes! We only have to search the scripture reading and hearing the voice of the Lord, for he abides in his words. Therefore, we could hear the voice of God whenever we read his words and hear them; and we have faith through the anointing of the Spirit whenever we hear his voice. And we also have peace whenever we have faith in him. As Peter could walk on the sea when he heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Fear not, it is me”, we also can have peace even in the midst of fear walking on the fear when we hear his voice. It is only possible for us to have peace when we have faith in the word of promise of the Lord as the Rock. The world shall be getting more wicked and hard to live; we can overcome the world on the faith of the goodness of God. Apostle John testified of this very clearly:

   “4For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.  ⁵Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? “(1John 5:4-5)

     The will of God toward us was testified by the Prophet Jeremiah:

   “11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”(Jer 29:11)

     Therefore, all things shall be concluded as goodness and peace for them that love and believe in God (Rom 8:28). Lord Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over unto the other side of the lake.” So they could be able to cross the lake even though they were threatened by the storm to death. Jesus rebuked them that were trembled by the storm, “Where is your faith?”(Luke 8:22-25). This is the very reason why we have to rejoice even in tribulation believing in his salvation (Rom 5:3). Our final destination is the New Jerusalem set by the Lord! Let us be victorious fighting the good fight of faith!
