성시: 시편: 23:1-6

본문: 베드로전서 1:1-9

제목: 고난 가운데서 크게 기뻐해야 할 이유둘

     사도 베드로는 여러 지방에 흩어져서 타국인처럼 살고 있는 그리스도인들에게 고난 당할  때 기뻐해야 할 이유에 대하여 성령 안에서 증거하고 있다. 주님께서도 제자들에게 말씀하실 때 “그러므로 내일을 위하여 염려하지 말라. 내일 일은 내일 염려할 것이요, 그 날의 재앙(evil)은 그날로 충분하니라.”(마 6:34)고 말씀하시면서 그리스도인들의 세상 삶이 하루 하루 악을 보면서 고난을 당할 것을 말씀하셨다. 그러나 고난을 당할 때 고난을 어떻게 대처하는 행위에 대하여 “세상에서는 너희가 환난을 당할 것이나 기운을 내라. 내가 세상을 이겼노라.”(요 16:33) 사도 베드로는 그리스도인들이 받은 축복과 소망을 통하여 고난을 오히려 기뻐할 수 있음에 대해 편지하고 있는 것이다.

     첫째로, 모든 그리스도인들은 하나님께서 미리 아신자들이라는 것이다. 하나님께서 미리 아시고 자녀삼으셨다는 엄청난 사실을 증거하고 있는 것이다. 사도 바울도 이 사실에 대하여 “그분께서 미리 아신 자들을 자기 아들의 형상과 일치하게 하시려고 또한 예정하셨으니 이는 그를 많은 형제 가운데서 첫태생이 되게 하려하심이라. 그리하여 예정하신 또한 부르시고 부르신 이들을  또한 의롭게 하시고 의롭게 하신 이들을 또한 영화롭게 하셨느니라.”(롬 8:29-30)고 증거했다.

     둘째로, 그리스도인들은 하나님의 자녀로 택함을 받았다는 사실이다. 사도 바울도 동일한 성령 안에서 “하나님께서 세상의 기초를 놓으시기 이전에 우리로 사랑 안에서 그분 안에 거룩하고 흠없게 하시려고 그리스도 안에서 우리를 택하시어 하나님의 기쁘심에 따라 예수 그리스도를 통하여 우리를 자신의 자녀로 입양할 것을 예정하셨으니.”(엡 1:3-5)라고 증거했다. 이 사실에 대해 사도 베드로는 “성령의 거룩하심을 통하여, 순종함과 예수 그리스도의 피뿌림으로 택함받은  자들”(벧전 1:2)이라고 증거하면서 그리스도를 믿을 때 그분의 피가 뿌려짐과 동시에 하나님의 자녀로 택함을 받았다고 구체적으로 증거한 것이다.사도 바울은 이 피뿌림이 뿌려졌을 때 그리스도 안에 들어가서 택함을 받는 다는 동일 한 증거를 한 것이다.

     셋째로, 그리스도를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 영이 그리스도인들 안에 있어 성령으로 거듭났으며 이제는 죽음과 더불어 없어지는 썩어질 소망이 아니라 영원한 산 소망을 갖게 되었다고 격려하고 있는 것이다. 사도 바울은 이와 관련하여 “만일 그리스도 안에서 우리가 바라는 것이 오직 이생뿐이라면 우리는 모든 사람 가운데서 가장 비참한 사람이라.”(고전 15:19)고 증거하면서 그리스도의 부활을 통하여 산 소망을 갖게 하신 사실을 확신하였던 것이다.

     넷째로, 하나님의 자녀들은 이 땅이 아닌 하늘에 썩지 않고 더럼지 않고 쇠잔하지 않는 유업을 간직해 주셨다는 것이다. 사도 요한도 “세상도 정욕도 사라지지만 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 자는 영원히 거하느니라.”(요일 2:17)고 증거했으며, 주님께서도 “오히려 너희 자신을 위하여 땅에다 보물을 쌓아두지 말라. 거기는 좀이나 녹이 해치며, 또 거기는 도둑들이 뚫고 들어와서 도둑질하느니라. 오히려 너희 자신을 위하여 하늘에다 보물을 쌓아 두라. 거기는 좀이나 녹이 해치지도 않으며, 또 거기는 도둑들이 뚫고 들어오지도 목하고 도둑질도 못하느니라.너희 보물이 있는 곳에 너희 마음도 있느니라.”(마 6:19-21)고 말씀하셨다. 사도 바울은 하늘에 있는 유업에 대하여 “너희가 그분을 믿고서 약속의 성령으로 인침을 받은 것이니라. 이는 값 주고 사신 유업의 보증이 되사 그의 영광을 찬양하게 하심이니라.”(엡 1:13-14)고 고 증거했다.

     다섯째로, 그리스도인들은 믿음을 통하여 하나님의 능력으로 보호받는다는 사실이다. 사도 바울은 우리가 믿음을 통하여 은혜로 구원받아 흑암의 권세로부터 그분의 사랑하는 아들의 나라로 옮겨주셨다고 증거했다(엡 2:8;골 1:13). 그렇다! 사도 요한의 증거 대로 우리의 믿음이 세상을 이기는 것이다(요일 5:4-5). 다시 말해서 우리의 믿음이 우리를 보호해주는 능력이 된다는 놀라운 사실인 것이다. 그러므로 사도 바울은 하나님의 전신갑주를 입라고 권고했다 (엡 6:11). 다시 말해서 하나님의 약속의 말씀을 믿음으로써 영적 전쟁에서 승리하라는 것이다.

     여섯째로, 우리가 여러가지 시험이 올 때 잠시 슬퍼할 수밖에 없지만 믿음으로 이겨 기뻐해야 할 이유는 예수 그리스도께서 나타나실 때에 의 고난에 동참한 것에 대해 칭찬과 존귀와 영광을 받게 하려 함이기 때문이다. 주님께서도 이 사실에 대해 분명하게 말씀하셨다: “누구든지 나를 따라오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따르라. 누구든지 자기 생명을 구하고자 하면 잃을 것이요, 누구든지 나를 위하여 자기 생명을 잃으면 얻으리라.”(마 16:24-25) 또한 십자가를 지는 일에 대하여 “사람의 원수들은 그의 가족 중에 있으리라. 아버지나 어머니를 나보다 더 사랑하는 사람은  나에게 합당치 아니하고, 아들이나 딸을 나보다 더 사랑하는 사람도 나에게 합당치 아니하며 또 자기 십자가를 지지않고 나를 따르는 사람도 나에게 합당치 아니하리라.”(마 10:36-38)고 말씀하셨다.

     일곱째로, 그리스도인들은 믿음을 통하여 그들의 혼이 구원받았다는 사실이다. 사도 베드로는 오순절 날 설교를 통하여 “주께서 내 혼을 지옥에 버려두지 아니하시며 또 주의 거룩하신 분으로 썩어짐을 보지 않게 하실 것임이니이다.”(행 2:27)라는 다윗의 예언을 인용하면서 주님께서 우리를 위하여 지옥까지 가셨으니 그의 몸이 썩지 않고 부활하셔서 그분을 믿는 모든 사람들의 혼이 지옥에 버려지지 않을 것을 증거했다.

     사도 베드로는 “너희가 그리스도의 이름을 위하여 욕을 당하면 복이 있느니라. 이는 영광의 영 곧 하나님의 영께서 너희 위에서 안식하고 계시기 때문이니라. 그들의 편에서는 그분께서 비방을 당하시나, 너희 편에서는 영광을 받으시느리라.”(벧전 4:14)고 고난받는 그리스도인들을 위로했다.

누구든지 살인자나 도둑이나 행악자나 다른 사람들의 일에 간섭하는 죄를 지음으로써 고난을 받지 않고 그리스도인으로써 고난을 당할 때 부끄러워하지 말고 오히려 그 일로 인하여 하나님께 영광을 돌리라고 또 한 번 증거했다.

어떤가?  이것이 그리스도인들이 그리스도를 인하여 고난 당할 때 기뻐해야할 충분한 이유들이 아니겠는가? 할렐루야!

Meditation: Psalms 23:1-6

Subject: The reason to rejoice greatly in tribulation

      Apostle Peter sent a letter to the Christians living as strangers scattered throughout various areas, and testified of the reason of rejoice in manifold temptation. Even Jesus said to his disciples of evils seeing through their daily life saying, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”(Matt. 6:34)

He also taught them how to deal with tribulation saying, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”(John 6:33) Apostle Peter sent the letter to them to teach why they were supposed to rejoice over the temptation through the blessing and hope given by Christ.

     Firstly, All Christians are foreknown by God. He is testifying of such great blessing of foreknowledge of God the Father to make them his children. Apostle Paul also testified of this blessing saying, “²⁹For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.  ³⁰Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.”(Rom. 8:29-30)

     Secondly, All Christians are chosen to be the children of God. Apostle Paul also testified in the same Spirit: ^“3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:  ⁴According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:  ⁵Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, “(Eph. 1:3-5) Apostle Peter testified of this fact saying, “Through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ”(1Pet. 1:2)., and all Christians are chosen to be his children when they believe in Christ through the sprinkling of the blood of Christ. Apostle Paul also testified that we are chosen to be in Christ through the sprinkling of the blood of Christ.

     Thirdly, Apostle Peter are encouraging us reminding us of being regenerated through the Spirit in Christ to have the lively hope not corrupted one disappearing with death. Apostle Paul also confirms of the lively hope through the resurrection of Christ, and testified, ^“19If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.”1Cor. 15:19)

     Fourthly, God reserved an inheritance in heaven not in this world that is incorruptible, and undefiled, and fadethe not away. Apostle John also testified, “¹⁷And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”(1John 2:17) Lord Jesus also encouraged his disciples saying, “¹⁹Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: ²⁰But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:   ²¹For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”(Matt. 6:19-21) Apostle Paul also testified of the inheritance in heaven: “¹³In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, ¹⁴Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. “(Eph. 1:13-14)

      Fifthly, We, Christians are kept by the power of God through faith. Apostle Paul testified that we were saved by grace through faith, and were delivered from the power of darkness into the kingdom of his dear Son (Eph. 2:8; Col. 1:13). Yes! Our faith overcomes the world according to the testimony of Apostle John (1John5:4-5). In other word, our faith is the source of the power through the power of God. Therefore, Apostle Paul encouraged us to wear the whole armor of God (Eph. 6:11). In other word, he encouraged us to have victory in the spiritual warfare through the faith in the promised words of God.

     Sixthly, Apostle Peter explained the reason of the great joy in tribulation by faith, even though they were in heaviness through manifold temptation for a season saying, they shall be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ, because they participated in the suffering of Christ. Lord Jesus also said to his disciples clearly, ^“24Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.  ²⁵For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.”(Matt. 16:24-25) He also said to them how to carry their cross, “36And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.  ³⁷He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.   ³⁸And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. “(Matt. 10:36-38)

     Seventhly, the souls Christians are saved through their faith. Apostle Peter quoted a prophesy of David in his sermon in the Day of Pentecost saying, “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”(Act 2:27) He testified that Lord Jesus went down to the Hell on behalf of us, but his body was not corrupted, and rather rose again not to sent the souls of them that believe in him.

     Apostle Peter comforted the Christians in the midst of tribulation saying, ^“14If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.”(1Pet. 4:14)

     He encouraged them again to let none of them suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters; and let him not be ashamed if any man suffer as a Christian, but let him glorify God on this behalf. What about enough reason for joy even in the suffering for the sake of Christ? Hallelujah!
