성시: 시편 86:1-17

본문: 빌립보서 4:10-23

제목: 고난 가운데 주시는 풍요한 은혜

    사도 바울은 어려움 가운데 근심을 이기는 성도들의 힘과 기쁨에 대하여 그의 사역을 도왔던 빌립보 교회 성도들에게 증거하고 있다. 그는 빌립보 교회 성도들을 향하여 사랑하고 사모하는 형제들이라 불렀으며 “나의 기쁨이요 면류관인, 나의 참으로 사랑하는 자들아, 주 안에서 이처럼 굳게 서라.”(빌 4;1)고 권면했다. 특별히 그들을 그의 참된 동지라 말하면서 복음 안에서 그와 함께 힘쓰고 애쓴 그의 동료들과 그들과 함께 수고한 여인들을 도우라고 부탁하면서 그들의 이름이 생명의 책에 있다고 증거했다. 예수께서 제자들과 함께 사역을 하실 때에 악령들과 병약함으로부터 치유받은 몇몇 여인들과 일곱 마귀들이 나간 막달라인이라 하는 마리아와 헤롯의 청지기 쿠사의 아내 요안나와 수산나, 여러 다른 여인이 그들의 물질로 주를 섬겼다 (눅 8:2-3).

     또한 사도 바울은 요즈음처럼 경제적으로 힘든 시기에 살고 있던 빌립보인들에게 하나님의 평강을 누리는 비결에 대하여 주님께서 가까우신 사실을 깨닫고 모든 사람들에게 관용을 베풀라고 권면했다. 또한 마음에 염려가 생길 때마다 염려하지 말고 모든 일에 기도와 간구로 필요한 것들을 하나님께 감사함으로 알려지게 하라고 권면했다. 이때에 하나님의 평강이 우선 먼저 마음과 생각을 지키실 것이며 평강 안에서 믿음으로 기다릴 수 있음을 증거했다.

     또한 어떤 어려움 속에서도 하나님께서 임재하시도록 모든 일에 참되며, 정직하며, 의로우며, 순결하며, 사랑스러우며, 좋은 평판을 얻고, 덕이나 칭찬에 대하여 생각하라고 권면하고 있는 것이다. 또한 그에게서 배운 하나님의 말씀대로 행함으로써 항상 하나님의 평강 가운데 거하라고 간곡하게 부탁하고 있는 것이다.

     사도 바울은 자신이 모든 환경, 즉 비천함과  배부름과 배고픔과 풍부함과 궁핍함 가운데 처하는 것을 배웠다고 증거하면서 여러가지 환경경 속에서 주시는 그리스도의 능력을 통하여 모든 일을 할 수 있었다고 증거했다. 다시 말하면 하나님의 일은 어떤 좋은 환경을 힘입어 하는 것이 아니라 그리스도의 능력을 통하여 주시는 하나님의 평강 가운데 수행하는 것임을 천명한 것이다.

     빌립보 교회 성도들은 사도 바울이 환난 가운데 있을 때에 그를 물질로 섬겼다고 증거했다. 그 당시 여러 교회들이 있었지만 오직 빌립보 교회 성도들만이 어려움 가운데서도 사도 바울의 선교 사역을 도왔던 것이다. 사도 바울은 그들이 베풀어준 도움을 선물이라 하지 않고 하늘에 있는 그들의 계좌에 풍성하게 저축하는 열매라고 증거했다. 주님께서도 “너희 보물이 있는 곳에 너희 마음도 있느니라.”(마 6:21)라고 말씀하셨다.

    사도 바울은 어려움 속에서도 “내게는 모든 것이 있고 또 풍부하니라.”고 빌립보 교회 성도들을 위로했다. 또한 빌립보 교회 성도들로부터 받은 선교 헌금을  향기로운 냄새요, 받으실만한 희생제요, 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 것이라고 증거했다. 다시 말하면 그들이 쓸것을 쓰지 못하고 희생하면서 하나님께 이방인들을 구원하여 제물로 드리는 일에 동참한 일이 하나님께는 옥합을 깨뜨린 여인으로 인하여 온 방 속이 향기로운 냄새로 가득찼던 것같이 주님을 기쁘시게 하는 것이라 말했던 것이다.

     사도 바울은 이들을 위하여 축복의 메세지를 주었다. “그러나 나의 하나님께서 그리스도 예수를 통하여 영광 가운데서 그의 풍요함을 따라 너희의 모든 필요를 채워줄 것이라. 이제 하나님, 곧 우리 아버지께 영원무궁토록 영광을 돌릴지어다. 아멘”(19-20절)

시편 기자인 다윗도 동일한 말씀을 증거했다:

“주께서는 정직한 자의 날들을 아시나니 그들의 유업이 영원하리로다. 그들은 재앙의 때에 수치를 당하지 않을 것이며 기근의 날들에 배부르리라.”(시 37:18-19)

     그렇다! 우리 주 예수 그리스도는 하늘과 땅을 소유하신 풍요하신 분이시다. 그분께서는 먼저 하나님의 나라와 그의 의를 위하여 자신을 부인하고 먼저 자신과 자신의 소유를 드리는 자들에게 영광을 받으시고 그분의 일을 위하여 필요한 모든 것을 채워주실뿐만 아니라 생활을 위하여서도 모든 것을 더하시는 분이신 것이다. 주님께서 오실 날이 가까운 이 때에 모든 사람이 구원받고 진리의 지식에 이르기를 원하시는 하나님의 뜻(딤전 2:4)을 이루는 일에 헌신함으로써 하나님께 향기로운 냄새로 제사드리는 축복된 자녀들이 되지 않겠는가?

Meditation: Psalms 86:1-17

Subject: Abundant grace in the midst of affliction

     Apostle Paul testified to the saints of Philippians church that helped his mission ministry of the believer’s strength, rejoicing over anxiety in the midst of affliction. He called them as his brethren dearly beloved, and he also encouraged them saying, “Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.”(vs 4:1)

Especially he called them true yoke fellow, and he asked them to help those women which labored with him in the gospel saying, their names are in the book of life. When Jesus was doing ministry with his disciples, certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance (Luke 8:2-3)

     Apostle Paul also encouraged the Philippians living in affliction as these days to let their moderation be known so that they may have peace of God knowing the Lord is at hand.  He also asked them to be careful for nothing; but every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let their request be made known unto God. He testified of the peace of God what shall keep their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

     For the presence of God, he asked  them seriously to think on the things such as whatsoever things are true, and just, and pure, and lovely, and of good report, any praise and so on.

     He also testified himself that he could do all things through Christ that strengthened him, because he knew how to be abase, and how to abound, and every where and in all things he was instructed both to abound and to suffer need. In other word, the ministry of the Lord can be done in the peace of God through the strength of Christ, not through financially abounding environment.

      The Philippians ministered unto Paul of their substance, when he was suffering financially. There were many other churches at that time, but only the church of Philippians supported him for his mission in the gospel. He called their support called as fruit that might abound to their account in heaven, instead of calling it a gift for him. Jesus also said unto his disciples, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”(Matt. 6:21)

     Apostle Paul comforted the Philippians even in need saying, “But I have all, and abound.”(v18)

He even praised their offerings saying, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. In other word, as the woman broke an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard to pour unto Jesus to fill the room with the odour, and she pleased the Lord, they sacrificed themselves not to use the substance for themselves, but to give it for offering souls of the Gentiles unto God.

     Apostle Paul gave them a message of blessing:

^“9But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.  ²⁰Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. “(vss 19-20)

    David, a psalmist also testified for the saints in the days of  famine:

  “ ¹⁸The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. ¹⁹They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. “(Ps 37:18-19)

     Yes! Our Lord Jesus Christ owns heavens and earth bountifully. He wants to be glorified from them that deny themselves for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and submit themselves with their substance; he is willing to fill all needs for his ministry, and add all need for their household.  What about apply to dedicate to the work of the Lord to fulfill his will to have all men to be saved, and to come unto to the knowledge of the truth? What about being blessed children of God to be an odour of sweet smell unto God?
