본문: 여호수아 6:1-27

제목: 하나님의 말씀의 능력과 우리의 믿음

     예수께서 제자들과 함께 베다니에 오셨을 때에 한 무화과 나무를 저주하시면서 “이후로는 영원히 네게서 아무도 열매를 먹지 못하리라.”고 말씀하셨다. 이 말씀을 제자들이 들었다.  주님께서는 그날 저녁에 성읍 밖으로 나가셨다가 이튿날 일부러 제자들을 데리고 그 무화과 나무 앞을 지나가셨다. 그때 그 무화가 나무가 뿌리로부터 말라버린 것을 보고 베드로가 전날 일이 생각이 나서 “선생님, 보소서, 선생님께서 저주하신 그 무화과 나무가 말라버렸나이다.” 라고 말씀드렸다. 그때 주님께서 대답하시며 “하나님을 믿으라.”고 말씀하셨다. 주님께서는 계속해서 말씀하셨다: “진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 누구든지 이 산더러 ‘옮겨져 바다에 빠지라.’고 말하고, 그의 마음에 의심하지 않으며, 그가 말한 것들이 이루어지리라고 믿으면 무엇이든지 이루어지리라.”(막 11:12-14,19-23)

     오늘 본문에 주님께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다: “보라, 내가 여리고와 그 왕과 힘센 용사들을 네 손에 주었으니, 너희 모든 전사들은 성을 에워싸고 성읍 주위를 한 번 돌되, 육 일 동안 그리하라. 일곱 제사장은 일곱 나팔을 들고 궤 앞에 가고 일곱째 날에는 너희가 성읍을 일곱 번 돌 것이며 제사장들은 나팔을 불지니라. 제사장들이 양뿔 나팔을 길게 불 때 너희가 성읍을 일곱 번 돌 것이며 제사장들은 나팔을 불지니라. 제사장들이 양뿔 나팔을 길게 불 때 너희가 그 나팔 소리를 들으면 모든 백성은 큰 소리를 지를지니라. 그리하면 그 성벽이 완전히 무너져 내리리니, 백성들은  각기 자기 앞으로 곧장 올라갈지니라.”(2-5절)

     여호수아는 백성들에게 “내가 너희에게 소리지르라 명하는 날까지 너희는 소리지르지 말며 너희 음성으로 소리도 내지 말며 너희 입에서 어떤 말도 내지 말고 있다가 그 후에 너희는 소리 지를지니라.”(10절)고  주의를 주었다. 그들로 하여금 의심하는 말을 하지 못하도록 하였음에 틀림 없다. 주님께서도 마음에 의심하지 않고 믿으면 그대로 되리라고 말씀하셨던 것이다. 주님께서 무화과 나무를 저주하셨을 때 그 당시에는 눈에 보이는 어떤 일도 일어나지 않았다. 주님께서는 뿌리부터 마르게 될 것을 미리 아시고 이틑날 까지 기다리셨다가  나무 줄기와 잎사귀까지 말랐을 때 그곳으로 지나가시면서 주님께서 하신 말씀대로 완전히 말라버린 것을 보여주셨던 것이다. 본문에 주님께서 육 일 동안 나팔을 불며 여리고 성 주위를 돌라고 말씀하신 것은 육 일 동안 겉으로는 아무 일도 일어나지 않은 것 같았지만 주님께서는 무화과 나무가 뿌리부터 마르게 하신 것처럼 육 일 동안 여리고 성의 뿌리인 기초를 헐어버리셨음에 틀림 없을 것이다. 일곱째 날 그들이 소리지를 때 순식 간에 완전히 무너지는 것을 그들이 목도했던 것이다.

   첫째로, 본문에 나타난 사건을 통하여 하나님의 말씀을 믿는 사람들이 보는 하나님의 영광을 계시하신다. 사도들이 주님께 “우리에게 믿음을 늘려주소서”라고 주님께 말씀드렸을 때, 주님께서 “너희에게 겨자씨 한 알만한 믿음이 있다면 이 뽕나무에게 말하여 ‘뿌리가 뽑혀서 바다에 심겨지라.’ 고 해도 그것이 너희에게 복종하리라.”(눅 17:5-6)고 말씀하셨다. 믿음이 무었인가? 하나님의 말씀을 믿는 사람은 하나님의 때에 분명히 말씀대로 이루짐을 확신하는 것이다. 의심하는 순간 믿음이 소멸되기 때문에 하나님의 영광을 볼 수 없는 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 믿는 사람은 물질계를 향하여 명령할 때에도 그대로 이루진다는 말씀인 것이다. 믿음이란 있든지 없든지 하는 문제이며 더 큰 믿음도 더 작은 믿음도 아니고 믿음이 있느냐, 없느냐의 문제라는 것이다. 사도 요한은 믿음의 담대함에 대하여 “우리가 그 안에서 가지는 담대함이 이것이니, 그의 뜻대로 무엇이든지 구하면, 그가 우리를 들으시는 것이라. 우리가 구하는 것은 무엇이나 그가 들으시는 줄을 안다면, 우리가 그에게 구한 요청들을 받은 줄도 아느니라.”(요일 5:14-15)고 증거했다.

     둘째로, 본문에서 아주 중요한 교리적인 메시지를 발견하게 된다. 여호수아처럼 나팔 소리와 함께 휴거된 성도들과 “일곱째 날”에 이 땅에 나타나셔서 심판하시는 장면을 그림자처럼 볼 수 있는 것이다. 주홍색 줄을 매달았던 창녀 라합의 집 안에 있었던 그의 모든 가족들과 친척들 외에는 남녀노소와 소와 양고 나귀까지 모두 무참하게 칼날로 살육당했다. 그리스도의 피를 믿은 하나님의 자녀들을 먼저 하늘로 데려가신 후 그들과 함께 주 예수 그리스도께서 “사랑의 주”가 아닌 공의의 “심판주”로 나타나실 때 그의 입에서는 예리한 칼이 나와서 그것으로 민족들을 칠 것이며, 철장으로 그들을 다스릴 것이며, 그는 전능하신 하나님의 맹렬한 진노의 포도즙틀을 밟으실 것이다 (계 19:15-16).

     셋째로, 여리고 성읍을 일으켜 세우는 사람은 저주를 받는 다고 여호수아가 엄명했다. 그가 기초를 놓을 때는 그의 첫째 아들을, 그가 그 문들을 세울 때는 그의 막내 아들을 잃으리라고 말씀하셨다. 또한 주께서 여호수아와 함께 하시니 그의 명성이 온 땅으로 두루 퍼졌다. 주 예수 그리스도께서 이 세상을 심판하시면 어느 누구도 다시 이 세상을 일으켜 세울 수 없다는 메시지를 볼 수 있다. 오직 주 예수 그리스도만이 온 땅의 만왕의 왕이시며 만주의 주로서 영원히 통치하실 것이다. “일곱째 날”인 “천년왕국”으로부터 시작하여 영원토록 통치하실 것이다. 사도 요한은 이에 관하여 증거했다:

“그 후에 일곱째 천사가 나팔을 부니, 하늘에서 큰 음성들이 있어 말하기를 ‘이 세상 나라들이 우리 주와 그의 그리스도의 왕국들이 되어 그분이 영원 무궁토록 통치하시리라.”(계 11:15) 그리스도의 명성만이 온 땅에 두루 퍼지게 될 것이다. 이때에 하나님의 뜻이 이 땅에 이루어지게 될 것이다. 사도 바울도 이에 대해 증거했다:

“그의 기쁘심에 따라 자기 안에서 계획하신 바 그의 뜻의 신비를 우리에게 알게 하셨으니 이는 때가 찬 경륜 안에서 하늘에 있는 것들이나 땅에 있는 것들이나 자신 안에 있는 것들까지도 만물을  그리스도 안에서 함께 모으려는 것이니라.”(엡 1:9-10) 할렐루야!

Meditation: Psalms 2:1-12

Subject: The power of word of God, and our faith

     When Jesus went out unto Bethany with the disciples, he cursed a fig tree saying, “No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever.” And his disciples heard it. Jesus went out of the city, and the next day, he passed by the fig tree that he had cursed. Seeing the fig tree dried up from the roots, Peter remembered what Jesus had done to the fig tree, and said unto the Lord, “Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.” Lord Jesus answered him saying, “Have faith in God.” And he continued to say to them, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”(Mark 11:12-14, 19-23)

     In the main passage, LORD God said unto Joshua:

“See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. ³And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.  ⁴And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. ⁵And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. “(vss 2-5)

     Joshua reminded the people saying, “Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.”(v10)

He must have warned them not to say any words of doubt. Lord Jesus also said to his disciples not to doubt, but to believe to make to come to pass whatever they said. When Jesus cursed the fig tree, anything visible not happened at that time right away. Knowing the roots to be dried up, Jesus waited by the next day, and he passed by the fig tree with them to show it dried up from the roots to the branches and leaves. When LORD asked Joshua to have the peoples to go around about Jericho, he must have known nothing was going to happen for six days until the foundation was to be destroyed as he dried up the roots of the fig tree when he cursed it. So at the seventh day they saw the wall of the city fall down flat as soon as they shouted with a great shout.

     Firstly, through the thing appeared in the main passage, the glory of God is revealed for them that believe in the words of God. When apostles asked the Lord Jesus, “Increase our faith.”, he spoke unto them, “If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.”(Luke 17:5-6)  What is the faith? They that have faith in the words of God believe to come to pass in his time as his words. When we doubt, the faith is offset right away not to see the glory of God. In addition, man of faith can command toward the creation to make it come to pass. Faith is matter of “be” of “not be”, not of the size of faith. Apostle John testified of the boldness of faith:

“ ¹⁴And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:  ¹⁵And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. “(1John 5-14-15)

     Secondly, we find a very important doctrinal message. We can see the shadow of the Lord Jesus as Joshua appears with the saints who are to be translated with the sound of trumpet to judge the earth in “the seventh day”. They utterly destroyed all that was in the city of Jericho, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword, except all the family of Rahab and her relatives in her house with scarlet thread in the window. After Lord Jesus takes away the saints that believe in his blood, he shall come with them as the Lord of Judgment, not the Lord of love anymore. Out of his mouth shall go a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; and he shall tread the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God (Rev 19:15-16)

     Thirdly, Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, cursed be the man before the LORD, that rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it. And the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country. This is the message for us that no one shall be able to rebuild the world after Lord Jesus judge the earth. Only the Lord Jesus Christ shall rule over the earth as the KING OF KINGS and LORD OF LORDS forever and ever all. He shall rule over the earth commencing from the Seventh Day, the Millennium eternally. Apostle John testified of this:

 “ ¹⁵And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign forever and ever.”(Rev 11:15)

Only the fame of the Lord Jesus Christ shall be spread out through all the nations. Then the will of God shall be done in the earth. Apostle Paul testified of this:

  “ ⁹Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: ¹⁰That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:”(Eph. 1:9-10) Hallelujah!
