금주의 묵상: 시편 119:25-32

본문: 골로새서 2:9-17

제목: 그리스도의 할례를 받았는가?

      아담이 범죄하여 세상에 죄가 들어온 이후 하나님께서는 세상에 죄악이 계속하여 관용함을 보시고 노아 가족만 남겨두시고 온 세상을 물로 심판하셨다. 그럼에도 사람들은 바벨탑을 쌓으며 여전히 하나님을 대적하게 되었으며 하나님께서는 언어를 혼잡케 하시어 사람들을 온 지면에 흩으셨다. 마침내 하나님께서는 자신과 더불어 천지를 창조하셨던 태초의 말씀이셨던 분을 이 세상의 메시야, 즉 기름을 부으시어 그리스도로 보내실 계획을 이루시려고 아브람을 택하셨다. 이 세상을 죄로부터 구원하시고 동시에 죄와 사망의 권세 잡은 자 마귀를 멸하시려는 계획은 이미 창세 전에 하나님께서 계획하셨던 일이었다 (엡 1:4-10)

     아브람이 구십구 세가 되었을 때 하나님께서 아브람에게 나타나셨다. 그리고 그와 한 언약을 세우셨다. 그를 많은 민족의 아비가 되리라는 언약을 하셨으며 그의 이름을 아브라함이라 칭하셨다. 또 하나님께서는 그 언약의 표적으로서 할례의 언약을 주시며 말씀하셨다: “그러므로 너는 내 언약을 지키고, 너와 네 씨 사이에 맺은 너희가 지켜야 할 나의 언약이니 너희 가운데 모든 사내 아이는 다 할례를 받을지니라. 너희는 너희의 포피의 살을 베어내라. 이것이 나와 너희 사이의 언약의 표가 되리라. 대대로 모든 사내 아이는 집에서 태어났거나 네 씨가 아니고 타국인에게서 돈으로 샀어도, 난 지 팔 일이 되면 너희 가운데서 할례를 받아야 하느니라. 네 집에서 태어난 자든지 네 돈으로 산 자든지 할례를 받아야만 하리니, 내 언약이 영원한 언약이 되어 너희 살에 있을 것이라. 할례를 받지 아니한 사내 아이, 곧 그의 포피의 살을 베어내지 아니한 자는 그의 백성 중에서 끊어지리니, 그가 내 언약을 위반하였음이라.”(창 17:9-14)

     할례를 받은 자만이 앞으로 아브라함의 자손이 되어 이스라엘 백성이 될 수 있었던 것이다. 그후 수백년이 지났을 때 하나님께서는 모세를 부르시고 그를 통하여 이스라엘 백성들에게 율법을 주셨다. 할례를 받고 이스라엘 백성이 된 사람은 누구나 율법을 지킬 의무가 주어지게 되었다. 사도바울은 성령 안에서 이에 대하여 증거했다: “내가 할례받은 모든 사람에게 증거하노니 그는 온 율법을 행할 의무가 있는 자라.”(갈 5:3)

      하나님께서 선택하신 이스라엘 백성들은 하나님으로부터 할례의 언약을 받았지만 그 언약은 사람으로서는 지킬 수 없는 하나님의 율법을 지켜야하는 큰 짐을 지게 되었던 것이다. 사도 바울은 이에 대하여 성령 안에서 증거했다:

“율법의 행위로 난 자들은 누구든지 저주 아래 있느니라. 기록되기를 ‘행하도록 율법책에 기록된 모든 것을 계속행하는 자는 누구나 저주를 받느니라.’고 하였음이라. 따라서 하나님 앞에서 율법으로 의롭게 되는 사람은 아무도 없다는 것이 분명하니 이는 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라.’고 하였느니라.”(갈 3:10,11)

     결국 하나님의 율법이 이스라엘 백성을 통하여 이 세상에 선포된 이후 온 세상은 저주 아래 있게 된 것이다. 이 세상의 어떤 사람도 그 저주를 영원히 피할 수 없게 된 것이다. 그러나 이스라엘 백성들은 이 사실을 알지 못하고 그들이 하나님으로부터 율법을 받은 것을 자랑스럽게 여기면서 할례받은 사실을 하나의 특권으로 여기게 되었던 것이다. 그들은 그들이 받은 율법 때문에 그들이 거룩한 민족이 된 것처럼 여겼던 것이다. 그러나 성령께서는 사도 바울을 통하여 그렇지 않음을 선포하셨다: “그런즉 우리가 무슨 말을 하리요? 율법이 죄냐? 결코 그럴 수 없느니라. 율법에 의하지 아니하고서는 내가 죄를 알지 못하였으니 곧 율법이 ‘너희는 탐내지 말지니라.’ 하지 아니하였더라면 내가 정욕을 알지 못하였으리라.”(롬 7:7)

그렇다! 율법은 모든 사람으로 하여금 죄인임을 깨닫게 하려고 하나님께서 주신 것이다.

     성경은 하나님께서는 이방인들까지 믿음으로 의롭게 하실 것을 미리 보고 먼저 아브라함에게 복음을 전파하기를 ‘ 네 안에서 모든 민족이 복을 받으리라.’고 말씀하셨다(갈 3:8) 그러나 하나님께서는 그 말씀을 이루시기 위하여 먼저 율법을 주심으로써 모든 사람을 저주 가운데 가두셨던 것이다. 그렇개 하셨던 것은 자신의 독생자를 이 땅에 보내셔서 저주 가운데 있는 모든 사람들을 저주로부터 구원하시기 원하셨던 것이다. 그렇게 하심은 누구든지 그분의 독생자이신 예수 그리스도께로 오지 않고서는 그 저주로부터 구원받을 길이 없기 때문이었다. 이에 대하여 사도 바울은 성령 안에서 증거했다: “그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 저주가 되셔서 율법의 저주로부터 우리를 구속하셨으니 기록되기를  ‘나무에 매달린 자는 누구나 저주받은 자라.’고 하였도다. 이는 아브라함의 복이 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 이방인들에게 미치게 함이며 또 우리로 하여금 믿음으로 말미암아 성령의 약속을 받게 하려는 것이라..”(갈 3:13,14)

“그러나 성경은 모든 것이 죄 아래 있다고 단정하였으니 이는 예수 그리스도로 말미암는 약속을 믿는 사람들에게 주려는 것이라. 그러나 믿음이 오기 전에는 우리는 율법 아래서 감시를 받았으며 나중에 믿음이 계시될 때까지 갇혀 있었느니라. 그리하여 율법이 우리를 그리스도에게로 인도하는 지도교사가 되었으니 이는 우리를 믿음으로 의롭게 하려 함이라. 믿음이 온 후로 우리는 더 이상 지도교사 아래 있지 아니하도다.”(갈 3:22-25)

     오늘 본문 말씀을 통하여 성령께서는 또 다른 할례를 말씀하신다. 그것은 옛날 처럼 손으로 하지 아니한 할례로서, 곧 그리스도의 할례를 말씀하신다. 다시 말해서 율법을 통하여 자신이 죄인임을 깨닫고 그리스도를 믿어 영접한 모든 사람은 유대인이나 이방인이나 차별 없이 그리스도 안에서 손으로 하지 아니한 할례를 받는  것이다. 다시 말해서 그리스도께서 친히 할례를 주신다는 것이다. 그러나 그리스도의 할례는 아브라함의 자손들처럼 남자의 포피를 칼로 베어내는 할례가 아니고 육신의 죄들의 몸을 베어내어 벗어버리게 하는 할례인 것이다. 옛날 이스라엘 백성들이 할례를 받았을 때 그들은 사흘 동안 상처로 인하여 고통을 받아야만 하였다. 그러나 이제 그리스도께서는 온 몸의 상처를 받으시고 물과 피를 다 흘리시고 죄인들을 위하여 사흘 동안 지옥까지 가셔서 우리가 받을 고통을 다 받으시고 셋째 날에 부활하신 것이다. 또한 그를 믿는 자들 안에 친히 들어가셔서 죄인들이 영원토록 고통받아야 할 죄의 몸을 말씀으로 베어내셔서 벗어버리게 한 것이다. 사도 바울은 이에 대하여 성령 안에서 증거했다: “하나님의 말씀은 살아 있고 활력이 있어 양날이 있는 어떤 칼보다도 예리하여 혼과 영, 그리고 관절과 골수를 찔러 가르고 마음의 생각들과 의도들을 판별하느니라.”(히 4:12)

     오래 전에 다윗 왕은 자신이 죄의 몸 안에서 받는 고통에 대하여 증거했다: “내 혼이 진토에 붙어 있으니 주의 말씀대로 나를 소생시키소서.”(시 119:25)

다시 말해서 다윗 왕은 자신의 혼이 죄의 몸에 붙어 있어서 자신의 혼이 죄의 몸에 의하여 지배받음으로 인해 죄를 지을 수 밖에 없는 것에 대하여 호소하면서 자신을 소생시켜주실 것을 구했던 것이다. 다시 말해서 자신의 혼을 죽을 몸으로부터 구해주실 것을 간구했던 것이다. 이 기도를 들으신 하나님께서는 그리스도를 보내시어 저주의 죄의 몸 안에서 고통받는 죄인들을 구원하시기 원하셨던 것이다, 사도 베드로는 우리가 받은 구원에 대하여 증거했다: “너희가 그를 보지 못하엿으니 사랑하며, 지금도 그를 보지 못하나 믿고 있으며, 또 말할 수 없이 영광으로 가득 찬 기쁨으로 즐거워하나니 이는 너희 믿음의 결과, 곧 너희 혼들의 구원을 받음이라.”(벧전 1:8,9)

     그렇다! 그리스도께서 그를 믿음으로 영접한 사람들 안에 들어가셔서 말씀의 칼로 죄의 몸을 혼으로부터 갈라놓으시고 영적으로 벗어버리게 하시는 것이다. 다시 말해서 죄의 몸은 영적으로 이미 무덤 속에 미리 버리게 하시는 것이다. 그리하여 더 이상 죄의 몸의 지배를 받지 않고 오히려 구원받은 혼이 영과 함께 하나님을 섬길 수 있도록 하시는 것이다. 동시에 과거에 어떤 죄를 지었을지라도 영과 혼을 죄의 몸으로부터 자유롭게 하시어 새로운 피조물로 재 창조하시는  것이다. 사도 바울은 이에 대하여 성령 안에서 증거했다: “그러므로 누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 새로운 피조물이라. 옛 것들은 지나갔으니, 보라, 모든 것이 새롭게 되었도다.”(고후 5:17)

하나님께서 주신 율법을 통하여 죄인임을 깨닫게 하시고 율법을 주신 하나님께서 모든 율법의 죄들을 대신 지시고 자신이 죽으심으로써 우리를 거스리고 우리를 대적한 손으로 쓴 법령을 지워버리시고 또 그것을 십자가에 못박으셨을 뿐만 아니라 그리스도 안에서 우리 옛 사람을 함께 죽이시고 그리스도께서 부활 하실 때 함께 살리심으로써 우리를 율법의 죄들로부터 구원하시고 부활하셔서 성령을 주심으로써 완전한 새 피조물로 재 창조하신 것이다. 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 119:25-32

Main scripture: Colossians 2:9-17

Subject: Are you circumcised by Christ?

     Since Adam sinned, and the sin came into the world, God judged the world with the flood except Noah and his families because of sins continually filled in the earth. In spite of his judgment, men happened to build the Babel tower in the city to be against God. Finally God confused the language so that men were to be scattered to the whole faces of the earth. The LORD God chose Abram to send the Word in the beginning to the world as the Messiah, the Anointed One that is Christ. The salvation of the world from sin had been planned before the foundation of the world together with destruction of the Devil that has the power of sin and death (Eph. 1:4-10)

     When Abram was ninety nine years old, the LORD God appeared to him to give a covenant saying that his name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And the LORD God gave him the covenant of circumcision as a sign, and said: And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations. This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you. And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed. He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant. And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.”(Gen. 17:9-14)

     Only they that are circumcised could be the people of Israel as the children of Abraham. When hundreds years passed by, the LORD God called Moses to give the law unto Israel. Therefore all the circumcised became to be responsible for keeping the law automatically. Apostle Paul testified of this in the Spirit:

“For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.”(Gal. 5:3)

     Even though the people of Israel chosen by God had received the covenant of circumcision, that covenant gave them a heavy burden unto Israel, for they had to keep the law that they couldn’t keep. Apostle Paul testified of this in the Spirit: “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.”(Gal. 3:10,11)

     Finally, since the law of God was proclaimed to the world through Israel, the whole world had been under curse, for no one could keep the law to avoid the curse. But, not understanding this, people of Israel were proud of the law that they received as well as the circumcision as a special right for them; they thought themselves as a holy nation only because they received the law of God. But the Holy Ghost proclaimed through Apostle Paul saying different from their thoughts:  “What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.”(Rom. 7:7)

Yes! The law of God was given for all men to understand themselves sinners.

     The scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preched before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, in thee shall all nations be blessed (Gal. 3:8). To make his will be done, God had to give the law to put all men under curse, because he wanted to save them from the curses by sending his only begotten Son. It was because that no one could be saved from the curses unless one comes to his Son. Apostle Paul testified of this in the Spirit: “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”(Gal. 3:13,14)

“But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster”(.Gal. 3:22-25)

     In the main passage, the Spirit testifies of another circumcision. This one is without hands that is called the circumcision of Christ different from the old one. In other word, whosoever whether they are Jews or Gentiles understand themselves as sinners through the law, and receive Christ by faith are circumcised in Christ without hands. In other word, Christ himself gives circumcision unto them. But the circumcision of Christ is not to circumcise flesh of foreskin as the children of Abraham did, but to put off the body of the sins of the flesh. When the people of Israel circumcised their flesh of foreskin, they had to suffer for three days because of the scars. But Christ himself received the scars on his whole body shedding his blood and water for the sinners for three days even going down to the hell to suffer for us, and rose again the third day. Afterwards, he enters into the body of the believers to put off the body of sins of the flesh that is supposed to suffer forever by his word. Apostle Paul testified of this in the Spirit: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”(Heb. 4:12)

     Long time ago, King David testified of the suffering in his body of sins of the flesh:

“My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.”(Ps. 119:25)

In other word, he cried out to the LORD God for the pain of his soul from his body controlled by sins; and he asked the LORD God to quicken his soul. In other word, he asked the LORD God for the salvation of his soul from his deadly body because of sins. To answer his prayer, the LORD God sent Christ to deliver the sinners from the suffering cursed body of sins. Apostle Peter testified of salvation: “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”(1Pet. 1:8,9)

     Yes! Christ is willing to enter into the body of the believers to divide the body of sins from their souls by the sword of word, and put their body of sins of the flesh off spiritually. In other word, Christ throw the body of sins to the grave spiritually so that they are not controlled by the body of sins anymore, rather they may serve the LORD God with their souls and spirit. At the same time, God make them new creatures free from all the sins that they committed before salvation. Apostle Paul testified of this in the Spirit: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”(2Cor. 5:17)

God made us understand that we are sinners through the law of God; and he died for the sins of the law instead of us to blot out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, and too it out of the way, nailing it to his cross. In addition to it, he crucified our old man in Christ, and he raised us with Christ when he rose again to save us from the sins of the law. He rose again to give us the Spirit to make us completely new creature. Amen! Hallelujah!
