금주의 묵상: 시편 84:1-12

본문: 룻기 1:1-22

제목: 마지막 때 하나님을 만난 자의 결단과 섬김, 그리고 안식과 보상

     본문 룻기는 재판관(사사)들이 다스리던 때 이스라엘 사람인 엘리멜렉과 나오미 그리고 그들의 며느리들에 대한 아름다운 이야기로서 이방 땅에서 고난 가운데 살다가 다시 본토롤 돌아가는 유대인의 모습과 또한 그들을 통하여 하나님을 만난 한 여인, 룻의 신앙을 통해 마지막 때 그리스도를 만나 하나님의 자녀가 된 이방인 그리스도인들이 마땅히 가져야 할 신앙의 모범을 발견할 수 있는 것이다. 다른 한편, 하나님을 만났지만 나오미의 첫째 며느리인 오르파처럼 어려움을 이기지 못하고 롯처럼 소돔같은 세상으로 다시 돌아간 타락한 그리스도인의 모습을 볼 수 있는 것이다.

     첫째로, 이스라엘 땅에 기근이 들었을 때, 엘리멜렉은 롯의 자손들이 살고 있는 모압 땅에 기거하기 위하여 갔다. 두 아들을 이방 여인들과 결혼하게 하였으나 자신도 죽고 두 아들 마져 죽게 된다. 엘리멜렉 역시 아브라함처럼 기근의 때에 이방나라로 들어가서 엄청난 댓가를 치르게 된 것이다. 그러나 그의 아내 나오미는 다시 유다 땅으로 돌아갈 결심을 한다.

    둘째로, 하나님께서는 엘리멜렉의 잘못된 결정으로 인해 그의 기정에 재앙을 초래하였지만, 하나님께서는 룻이라 하는 여인을 만나 주시고 그 여인을 구원하심으로써 선을 이루심을 볼 수 있다. 마치 그리스도가 이방인 신부를 맞이하듯이 그녀를 받아들이는 모습을 본다.

     셋째로, 이방인 중에서도 가장 저주받은 민족인 모압인 여인 룻에게 은혜를 베푸시는 하나님의 자비하심과 더불어 세상을 이처럼 사랑하셔서 그의 독생자를 주신 하나님의 사랑을 미리 보게 된다 (요 3;16). 또한 마지막 때인 배교의 시대에 살고 있는 라오디게아 교회 그리스도인들에게 참 신앙의 좋은 본이 무엇인지 룻의 삶을 통하여 볼 수 있는 것이다.

     모압인의 조상인 롯은 아브라함이 섬기는 하나님을 떠나 조만간 멸망할 소돔에 거하기 위하여 어려울 때 자신을 도와준 삼촌을 떠났지만, 룻은 자신의 시어머니가 고통 중에 있었지만 그녀가 섬기는 하나님을 믿었으므로 그녀를 떠나지 않고 그녀를 끝까지 따르는 모습을 본다. 우리는 룻의 결단하는 모습을 분명하게 볼 수 있다:

“나로 어머니를 떠나라고 하거나, 어머니를 따르는 것에서 떠나 돌아가라고 강권하지 마소서. 어머니가 가시는 곳에 나도 가고 어머니가 유숙하시는 곳에 나도 유숙하리이다. 어머니의 백성이 내 백성이 되고 어머니의 하나님이 내 하나님이 되시리이다. 어머니께서 죽으시는 곳에서 나도 죽고 거기서 장사되리니, 죽음이 어머니와 나를 떼어놓는 것이 아니라면 주께서 내게 벌을 내리시고 더 내리시기를 원하나이다.”(룻 1:16,17)

     이방 여인인 룻이 어떻게 비참하게 되어 아무 소망도 없어보이는 시어머니를 따라 죽기까지 섬기기로 결심하게 되었을까? 룻의 고백을 통하여 그녀는 이스라엘의 하나님을 만났으며 이제는 이방인이 아닌 하나님의 백성이 되었으며 하나님의 가족이 되었음을 선포한 것이다. 그러므로 시어머니인 나오미는 더 이상 시어머니가 아닌 하나님의 기족이기에 하나님을 섬기는 마음으로 하나님의 딸인 시어머니를 섬김으로써 하나님을 섬기기로 결단하였던 것이다. 룻은 진정으로 하나님을 사랑하는 자였다. 그녀의 보이지 않는 하나님에 대한 사랑이 보이는 사람인 나오미에게 나타났던 것이다. 하나님의 사랑한 제자인 시도 요한은 진정한 하나님의 사랑에 대하여 이렇게 증거했다:

“어떤 사람이 ‘나는 하나님을 사랑하노라.’ 하면서 자기 형제를 미워하면 그는 거짓말쟁이라. 눈으로 본 형제를 사랑하지 않는 자가 본 적이 없는 하나님을 어떻게 사랑할 수 있겠느냐? 이것이 우리가 그분께 받은 계명이니 하나님을 사랑하는 자는 자기 형제도 사랑해야 하느니라.”(요일 4:20,21)

사도 바울은 그리스도를 믿음으로써 하나님의 가족이 된 사람들에 대하여 증거했다:

“그러므로 이제부터 너희는 더 이상 나그네도 타국인도 이니요, 오히려 성도들과 같은 시민이며 하나님의 가족이니라.”(엡 2:19)

     그렇다! 하나님의 가족이 된 룻에게는 어떤 모압 사람도 그의 가족이 될 수 없었고 오직 한 사람 시어머니 나오미밖에 없었던 것이다. 마찬가지로 성령으로 거듭난 성도들에게는 그리스도 안에 있는 형제자매들이 진정한 가족이 되는 것이다. 그러기에 죽음이 서로를 갈라놓은 때까지 서로 헤어질 수 없는 것이다. 룻의 신앙이야말로 마지막 때에 자신의 유익과 세상의 정욕을 따라가는 라오디게아 교회 교인들에게 신선한 충격을 주는 것이다. 비록 그녀가 저주받은 롯의 자손이었지만 그녀는 이제 이스라엘의 하나님을 만나 하나님의 가족이 되는 축복을 받은 것이다. 비록 육신의 남편은 죽었지만 살아게신 영원하신 하나님을 남편으로 맞이하게 된 것이다.

     룻은 말로만이 아닌 행동으로 하나님을 섬기듯이 시어머니를 섬겼다. 온 힘을 다하여 일하여 어머니와 자신의 양식을 벌어들였으며 어머니의 말씀에 절대 복종하는 삶을 살았다. 그녀는 약속있는 첫 계명인 부모공경을 실천하였던 것이다. 사도 바울은 이 축복에 대하여 증거했다:

“자녀들아, 주 안에서 너희 부모에게 순종하라. 이것이 옳으니라. 네 아버지와 어머니를 공경하라. (이것이 약속 있는 첫째 계명이니) 이는 네가 잘되고 또 땅에서 장수하게 하려 함이니라.”(엡 6:1-3)

시어머니를 섬기는 룻을 하나님께서는 친척 중 부자인 보아스를 만나게 하셔서 도와주게 하셨다. 보아스는 룻에 대한 소문을 들었으며 그녀를 풍성하게 도와주었다. 보아스가 룻에게 한 말 가운데 이 사실을 알 수 있다:

“네 남편이 죽은 뒤로 네가 네 시어머니에게 행한 모든 것과 어떻게 네가 네 아버지와 어머니와 태어난 땅을 떠나 네가 전에 알지 못하엿던 백성에게로 왔는지 내게 온전히 알려졌느니라. 주께서 너의 행한 일을 갚아 주시고 이스라엘의 주 하나님께서 그분의 날개 아래 의뢰하러 온 너에게 온전히 보상해 주시기를 원하노라.”(룻 2:11,12)

     보아스로부터 축복의 말씀을 받은 룻에게 마침내 하나님께서 보상하시기를 시작하셨다. 하나님께서는 주 안에서 새 남편인 보아스를 예비하시고 나오미를 통하여 말씀하셨다:

“내 딸아, 내가 너를 위하여 안식을 구하지 아니하랴? 그것이 네게 좋은 것이니라. 이제 네가 함꼐하였던 여종들을 둔 우리의 친족 보아스가 있지 아니하냐? 보라, 그가 오늘 밤 타작마당에서 보리를 키질하느니라. 그러므로 너는 목욕을 하고 기름을 바르고 옷을 입고 타작마당으로 내려가서, 그가 먹고 마시기를 다하기까지 그 사람이 너를 보지 못하게 하고 그가 누울 때 너는 그가 눕는 곳을 알았다가 너도 들어가서 그의 발치를 들추고 누우라. 그리하면 네가 어찌해야 되는지를 그가 네게 말하리라.”(룻 3:1-4)

상당히 난처한 부탁을 하는 시어머니에게 그녀는 조금도 망설임 없이 순종하면서 “어머니께서 내게 말씀하신 모든 것을 내가 행하리이다.”(룻 3:5) 말하고 즉시 타작마당으로 내려가서 그녀의 시어머니가 명한대로 행했다. 또한 보아스는 하나님의 음성을 들은 자 답게 그녀를 정중하게 대했다.

하나님께서는 시어머니를 극진히 섬기는 룻에게 보아스를 통하여 쉼을 주시기 원하셨던 것이다. 주님께서도 쉼에 대하여 말씀하셨다:

“수고하고 무거운 짐진 자들아, 다 내게로 오라. 그러면 내가 너희에게 쉼을 주리라.”(마 11:28)

앞으로 나타나실 예수 그리스도의 조상인 보아스를 만나 그의 사랑을 받은 룻은 그 동안 그녀가 한 모든 수고와 무거운 짐을 보아스에게 내려놓고 안식하게 된 것이다.

     마침내 보아스는 이스라엘의 관습의 절차를 따라 합법적으로 룻의 남편이 될 수 있음을 모든 장로들과 백성들 앞에서 인정받게 되었고 그들이 증인들이 되었다. 또한 성문에 있던 모든 백성과 장로들이 룻을 축복하며 말했다:

“우리가 증인들이라. 주께서 네 집에 들어간 여인으로 둘이서 이스라엘 집을 세운 라헬과 레아같이 되게 하시기를 원하며, 네가 에프라타에서 유력하게 되며, 베들레헴에서 유명하게 되기를 원하노라. 또 네 집이 타말이 유다에게서 낳은 파레스의 집같이 되기를 원하며, 그 집의 씨는 주께서 이 젊은 여인을 통하여 네게 주시리라.”(룻 4:11,12)

     마침내 룻은 하나님께로부터 보상을 받게 된 것이다. 하나님께서는 즉시 그녀로 수태케 하셨으며 아들을 낳았다. 또한 나오미는 더 이상 “마라” 즉 고통의 이름이 아닌 “나오미” 즉 “기쁨”의 이름을 다시 찾게 되었다. 나오미는 그녀가 낳은 아들의 보모가 되어 아름다운 하나님의 기족을 이루게 된 것이다. “나오미에게 아들이 태어났다”는 뜻으로 그 아기의 이름을 “오벳”이라 칭하게 되었으며, 그는 다윗의 아버지인 이새의 아버지가 되었다. 하나님께서는 하나님의 가족으로서 시어머니를 극진히 섬겼던 룻은 다윗 왕의 증조 할머니가 되는 축복을 받았으며 성경은 이렇게 말씀하신다:

“이것이 파레스의 후대니, 파레스는 헤스론을 낳고, 헤스론은 람을 낳고, 람은 아마나답을 낳고, 아미나답은 나손을 낳고, 나손은 살몬을 낳고, 살몸은 보아스를 낳고, 보아스는 오벳을 낳고, 오벳은 이새를 낳고, 오벳은 이새를 낳고, 이새는 다윗 왕을 낳았더라.”(룻 4:18-22)

     신약시대에 나오미같이 고난 중에 있던 사도 바울을 대부분 다 떠났지만 누가 한 사람만이 끝까지 그를 섬겼다. 하나님께서는 누가에게 어떤 축복을 주셨는가? 그는 사도도 아니요 의사였지만 하나님께서 그를 지극히 높여 누가복음과 사도행전을 쓰게 하셨다. 그렇다! 하나님께서는 우리에게 어떤 큰 일을 하는 것 보다 오히려 하나님의 기족으로써 하나님의 교회에 있는 가족들을 극진히 섬기며 사랑하기를 원하시는 것이다. 사도 베드로는 그의 둘째 서신에서 성도들에게 간절하게 권면했다:

“너희의 믿음에 덕을, 덕에 지식을, 지식에 절제를, 절제에 인내를, 인내에 경건을  경건에 형제 우애를, 형제 우애에 사랑을 더하라. 이런 것들이 너희 안에 풍성해지면 그것들이 너희로 우리 주 예수 그리스도에 대한 지식에 관한 게으르거나 열매 없는 자가 되지 않게 할 것이라.”(벧후 1:5-8)

     그렇다! 하나님의 기족이 된 우리들은 눈에 보이는 형제 자매들을 섬기는 것이 보이지 않는 하나님을 섬기는 길인 것이다. 하나님께서는 이런 사람들에게 지금도 여전히 쉼을 주시고 보상하시는 것이다.

Meditation of the week: psalms 84:1-12

Main scripture: Ruth 1:1-22

Subject: Resolution and serving, and rest and reward for one that met with God in the end time.

     The book of Ruth is a beautiful story related with Elimelech, Naomi, and their daughters in law in the days of judges in Israel. This story also shows the Jews that have been in suffering, and returning to their homeland; and a woman, Ruth who met with God through them. The faith of Ruth shows an example of faith for Gentile Christians that is supposed to have. In other word, this also shows a falling Christian to the world through Orpah that couldn’t overcome tribulation as Lot returned to Sodom that was corrupted world.

     Firstly, when there was a famine in the land of Israel, Elimelech went to sojourn in the country of Moab. His two sons got married to the Gentile women, but he as well as his two sons passed away. Elimelech also had to pay a high price as Abraham went down to the country of Gentile in the days of famine. But his wife, Naomi decided to return to the land of Judah.

     Secondly, God brought forth the wrath unto the house of Elimelech because of his mistake. But God turned around the situation to make it goodness by saving Ruth, as if Christ receives the bride from the Gentile.

     Thirdly, we foresee the love of God who so love the world, and gives the only begotten Son (John 3:16) as God gave grace to Ruth, a woman of Moab that was cursed worst among the Gentile. The Holy Ghost shows us an example of true faith unto the Christians living in the days of Laodicea church that has been falling away through the life of Ruth.

     Lot who is the father of Moab departed Abraham who served God to dwell in Sodom that was going to be judged forgetting the love of his uncle, Abraham; but Ruth never departed her mother in law but to follow her to the end even though Naomi was in the miserable situation, for she believed on God that was served by Naomi. We can see a firm resolution of Ruth.

“Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.”(Ruth 1:16,17)

     How Ruth, a Gentile woman decided to serve her mother in law unto death that was in no hope at all in the miserable situation? Through her confession, Ruth declared that she met with God to be belonging to the people of Israel, no more Gentiles to be the family of God. Therefore her mother in law was no more the mother in law but the family of God; so she decided to serve her as if she served God. Ruth loved God sincerely. Her love unto invisible God was manifested unto her mother in law that was visible. Apostle John, the beloved disciple of Jesus testified of the true love of God:

“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.”(1John 4:20,21)

Apostle Paul also testified of them that became the family of God through faith in Christ:

“Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;”(Eph. 2:19)

     Yea! There was no other family member of God but her mother in law, Naomi, since she became a member of the family of God. In the same way, for the born again Christian of the Spirit, brothers and sisters in Christ are true family. Therefore, they cannot depart one another until death separates them from one another. The faith of Ruth give a fresh challenge unto the saints in the church of Laodicean that follow after own benefit and the lust of the world in the end time. Even though she was an offspring of Lot who was cursed, now she became the family of God of Israel. Even though her husband passed away, she became to be married to the eternal God as a new husband.

     Ruth served her mother in law with her body not only with word. She worked so hard to feed he mother in law and herself; and she submitted her mother with absolute obedience. She obeyed the first promised commandment serving her mother in law. Apostle Paul testified of the blessing of the first commandment with promise:

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.”(Eph. 6:1-3)

God allowed Ruth to meet with Boaz who was a rich relative to reward her. Boaz had heard of Ruth, and helped her abundantly. Boaz spoke unto her as he had heard of her:

“It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore. The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.”(Ruth 2:11,12)

     God began to reward Ruth, since Boaz gave the blessing message unto her. God had prepared Boaz as her new husband; and he spoke through Naomi:

“My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee? And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor. Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor: but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking. And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.”(Ruth 3:2-4)

      She obeyed her mother in law without any hesitation, even though she asked her to do a shameful thing saying, “All that thou sayest unto me, I will do.” And she went down unto the floor, and did according to all that her mother in law bade her. Then Boaz treated her politely as if he heard the voice of God. God wanted to give rest unto Ruth that served Naomi with all heart through Boaz. The Lord Jesus also spoke of the rest: ^“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”(Matt. 11:28)

Finally, Ruth has found the rest through Boaz who was the forefather of Jesus Christ to come in the future putting off all labours and heavy burdens.

     Finally, Boaz was recognized to be the husband of Ruth legally according to the manner of Israel before all the elders and people to make them witnesses. All the elders and people in the gate blessed Ruth saying,

“And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem: And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.”(Ruth 4:11,12)

     Finally, Ruth was rewarded by God. And the LORD gave her conception, and she bared a son. And Naomi found her name of joy again no more Mara. Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it. And the women her neighbors gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David. The scripture wrote of the blessing of Ruth who served her mother in law with all her heart as follow:

“Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron, And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab, And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon, And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed, And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.”(Ruth 4:18-22)

     Almost all people departed Apostle Paul who was in the miserable situation as Naomi in the days of New Testament; but Luke stayed with him to the end. What kind of blessing came unto him from God? He was not an apostle but a medical doctor, but God exalted him to allow him write the books of Luke and Acts of the Apostles. Yea! Our God the Father doesn’t want us to do a great thing, but want all of us serve the family of God with all our heart in the church of God. Apostle Peter encouraged the saints of this in his second epistle:

“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”(2Pet. 1:5-8)

     Yea! Serving the visible brothers and sisters is the way to serve the invisible God. God still wants to reward such kind of people giving the REST. Amen! Hallelujah!
