금주의 묵상: 시편 30:1-12

본문: 욥기 42:1-6

제목: 욥의 고백 속에 나타난 하나님 앞에 죄인들의 비참한 실상

          본문에서 욥은 자신의 비참한 모습을 하나님 앞에서 고백하고 있다: “주께서는 모든 것을 하실 수 있으며, 어떤 생각도 주께 알려지지 않을 수 없음을 내가 아나이다. 지식 없이 이치를 가리는 자가 누구니이까? 그러므로 나는 깨닫지 못한 것을 말하였으니 그것들은 내게 너무 경이로워서 내가 알지 못하였나이다. 내가 간구하오니, 들으소서, 내가 말하겠나이다. 내가 주께 묻겠사오니, 나로 알게 하소서. 내가 주에 대하여 귀로만 들었사오나 이제는 내 눈으로 주를 보나이다. 그러므로 내가 나를 미워하고 티끌과 재 속에서 회개하나이다.”(42:1-6)

           욥기 1장 1절에서 성경은 욥에 대하여 “그 사람은 온전하고 정직하며, 하나님을 두려워하고 악을 피하는 사람이더라.”고 말씀하고 있다. 또한 하나님께서 사탄에게 말씀하시기를 “너는 내 종 욥을 유의해 보았느냐? 세상에 그와 같은 사람은 아무도 없나니 그는 온전하고 정직한 사람으로 하나님을 두려워하고 악을 피하는 자니라.”(욥 1:8)고 말씀하셨다. 하나님 자신의 입으로 또 한 번 말씀하신 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 하나님께서 예루살렘에 대한 심판의 메세지를 선지자 에스겔에게 주실 때에도 욥에 대화여 말씀하셨다: “ 인자야, 그 땅이 심하게 범법함으로써 나를 거슬러 죄를 지으면 내가 내 손을 그 땅에 위에 펴서 식량봉을 꺾을 것이요, 기근을 그 위에 보낼 것이며 사람과 짐승을 그 땅으로부터 끊으리라. 비록 노아, 다니엘, 욥 이 세 사람이 그 땅에 있다 할지라도, 그들은 아들들이나 딸들도 구해 내지 못하고 자신들만 구해 내며 그 땅은 황폐하게 되리라. 주 하나님이 말하노라.”(겔 14:13,14)

          하나님께서 이렇게 욥이 의인이라고 말씀하셨을지라도 그가 신약 시대에서의 죄인이 아니라는 의미는 아니었다. 다만 구약의 율법적인 기준에 의하여 다른 사람과 비교하실 때 그를 당대에 의로운 사람으로 분류하신 것이다. 성경은 모든 사람이 죄인임을 선포하셨다: “의인은 없나니 없도다. 한 사람도 없도다. 깨닫는 자도 없고 하나님을 찾는 자도 없도다. 모두가 탈선하여 함께 무익하게 되었으며 선을 행하는 자가 없으니 없도다. 한 사람도 없도다. 그들의 목구멍은 열린 무덤이요, 그들이 자기 혀로는 속였으며 그들의 입술 아래는 독사의 독이 있고 그들의 입은 저주와 독설로 가득 차고 그들의 발은 피흘리는 데 빠른지라. 파멸과 비참함이 그들의 곁에 있고 그들은 평강의 길을 알지 못했으며 그들의 눈 앞에는 하나님을 두려워함이 없도다.”(롬 3:10-18)

          하나님께서는 욥을 사랑하셔서 그의 삶을 축복하셨다: “그에게 일곱 아들과 세 딸이 태어났으며, 그의 재산도 양이 칠 천이고 낙타가 삼천이며 소가 오백 겨리며, 암나귀가 오백이며 아주 많은 가족을 두었으니 이 사람은 동방의 모든 사람 가운데서 가장 큰 자더라.”(욥 1:2,3)고 성경은 말씀하신다. 그러나 하나님께서는 잠시 사탄에게 욥을 내어주시면서 말씀하셨다: “보라, 그가 소유한 모든 것이 네 권세에 있으나 다만 그의 몸에는 네 손을 대지 말라.”(욥 1:12) 마침내 하나님의 신비로운 계획 안에서 사탄이 욥을 마구 키질하게 된 것이다. 그의 모든 자녀들이 한 날 한 시에 모두 폭풍으로 인해 죽었고 그의 모든 가축들은 한꺼번에 사베인들과 갈데아인들에게 약탈을 당했다. 그러나 이 모든 일에도 욥은 죄를 짓지 아니하였으며 어리석게 하나님을 탓하지 아니하였다. 그때 욥이 일어나 그의 겉옷을 찟고 머리를 밀고 땅바닥에 엎드려 경배하며 ‘내가 내 어미의 태에서 맨몸으로 나왔으니 내가 맨몸으로 그리 돌아가리이다. 주신 분도 주시요, 빼앗아 가신 분도 주시니 주의 이름을 송축하리이다.’”라 말하였다.(욥 1:13-22)

           하나님께서는 사탄에게 두 번째로 말씀하셨다: “너는 내 종을 유의해 보았느냐? 세상에 그와 같은 사람은 아무도 없나니 그는 온전하고 정직한 사람으로 하나님을 두려워하고 악을 피하는 자니라.”(욥 2:3)

그럼에도 두 번째로 욥을 참소하는 사탄을 향하여 하나님께서 두 번째로 사탄에게 욥을 시험하도록 허락하셨다: “보라, 그기 네 손에 있느니라. 다만 그의 생명은 남겨 둘지니라.”(욥 2:6) 사탄은 마침내 욥의 발바닥에서 머리 끝까지 심한 종기로 욥을 치니 욥이 질그릇 조각을 가져다가 그것으로 자기 몸을 긁고 재 가운데 앉아 있었다. 그때에 그의 아내가 욥에게 “당신이 아직도 완전함을 간직하려 하느뇨? 하나님을 저주하고 죽으라.”(욥 2:9)고 말하였지만 욥은 그녀에게 “당신은 어리석은 여자들 가운데 하나가 말하듯이 말하는도다. 무슨 말을 그리하느뇨? 우리가 하나님의 손에서 좋은 것을 받았을진대 나쁜 것도 받지 아니하겠느뇨?”말하면서 자기 입술로 죄를 짓지 아니하였다 (욥 2:10).

          그러나 욥의 친구들이 그를 찾아와서 그를 정죄하는 말들을 하였을 때 사람들을 향하여 그의 마음 속에 있는 것들을 털어놓았다: “나를 가르치라. 그리하면 입을 다물겠노라. 또한 내가 어디가 잘못되었는지 깨닫게 하라….내가 원하노니 너희는 돌이켜서 죄악이 없게 하라. 정녕, 너희는 다시 돌이키라. 내 의가 그 안에 있느니라. 내 혀에 죄악이 있느냐? 내 미각이 어찌 변질된 것을 분별할 수 없겠느냐?….내가 내 생명을 싫어하며 내가 항상 살기를 원치 아니하오니 나를 내버려 두소서. 이는 내 날들이 헛됨이니이다….비록 내가 온전하다 할지라도 내가 나의 혼을 알지 못하리니 내가 내 생명을 멸시하리로다…내 혼이 삶에 지쳤으니, 내가 내 불평을 나 자신에게 두고, 내가 내 혼의 괴로움 가운데 말하리라. 내가 하나님께 말씀드리오니 나를 정죄하지 마옵소서. 어찌하여 주께서 나와 논쟁하시는지 내게 보여주소서…주께서는 나의 죄악을 조사하시며 나의 죄를 찾으시나이까?…실로 나는 전능하신 분께 말씀드리고 싶으며 하나님과 따져보기 원하노라. 그러나 너희는 거짓말을 지어내는 자요, 너희는 모두 쓸모없는 의사들이니라….나의 구속주가 살아계시고 훗날 그가 땅에 서실 것임을 내가 앎이라. 내 피부에 벌레들이 이 몸을 멸하여도 내가 내 몸을 입고 하나님을 보리라….(욥 6:24,29,30;7:16;9:20; 10:1,2,6; 13: 3,4; 19:25,26)

욥이 스스로 의롭게 여겼으므로, 이 세사람이 욥에게 대답하기를 그쳤다 (욥 32:1) 이때에 엘리후가 욥에게 말하기 시작했다. 그는 하나님의 사자처럼 보인다. 동시에 욥기의 저자로 보인다. 욥의 친구들과 욥의 대화를 들은 후 그가 욥에게 말했다: “당신이 말하기를 ‘나의 의는 하나님의 의보다 더 낫다.’하였으니 당신은 이것이 옳다고 생각하느뇨? 당신이 말하기를 ‘그런즉 네게 무슨 유익이 있으며 내가 죄에서 깨끗이 되면 나는 무슨 이익을 얻을 것인가?’ 하였도다” (욥 35:2,3)

엘리후가 욥에게 말하던 것이 그친 후에 주께서 회오리 바람 속에서 욥에게 나타나셔서 욥이 말한 모든 것에 대하여  대답하여 말씀하셨다. “지식이 없는 말로 이치를 어둡게 하는 이자가 누구뇨? 너는 이제 남자답게 내게 대답하라.”(욥 38:1-3)

          하나님의 말씀은 욥기 38장에서 41장에 이르기까지 욥이 한 마디도 대답할 수 없는 질문들을 퍼부으셨다: “내가 땅의 기초들을 놓을 때에(이 지구를 창조하실 때) 네가 어디 있었느냐?…너는 바다의 샘들 속으로 들어가 보았느냐? 아니면 네가 깊은 곳을 찾아 거닐어 본 적이 있느냐? 사망의 문들이 네게 열렸더냐? 아니면 사망의 그림자의 문들을 보았더냐? 네가 땅의 너비를 알았더냐? 빛이 거하는 길이 어디냐? 흑암이 있는 자리는 어느 곳이기에 내가 경계로 가는 길을 택하여서 네가 그 집으로 가는 길을 알겠느냐? 네가 그 때 태어났기에 그것을 알았느냐? 아니면 네 날수가 많기에 네가 그것을 보았느냐? 네가 눈의 보고 속으로 들어갔느냐? 아니면 우박의 보고를 보았느냐?….얼음은 누구의 태에서 나왔느냐? 하늘의 하얀 서리는 누가 낳았느냐? 네가 플라아데스 성단의 아름다운 감응력을 묶을 수 있으며 오리온의 띠를 풀 수 있느냐?     네가 번개들을 보내어 그들로 가서 네게 말하기를 ‘우리가 여기 있나이다.’ 하게 할 수 있느냐?…바위의 들염소가 새끼 낳는 때를 네가 알 수 있으며 암사슴이 새끼 낳는 때를 네가 말할 수 있느냐?….(욥 38:3, 16,17,1819,20,21,21,22,29, 35; 39:1)

         계속해서 하나님께서 욥에게 말씀하셨다. 이 모든 말씀들은 오늘날 자신이 의롭다고 여기는 모든 사람들에게 하시는 말씀인 것이다: “전능하신 분과 더불어 다투는 자가 그분을 가르치겠느냐? 하나님을 꾸짖는 자로 그것을 대답하게 하라.”(욥 40:2) 이때에 욥이 하나님께 대답했다: “보소서. 나는 악하오니 내가 무엇을 주께 대답하리이까? 내가 내 손으로 내 입을 가리겠나이다. 한 번 내가 말하였으나 대답하지 아니할 것이며 실로 두 번 말하였으나 더 이상 하지 않겠나이다.”(욥 40:4,5) 하나님께서는 세상에 살고 있는 모든 사람들이 욥과 같은 고백을 하기를 원하시는 것이다. 하나님께서는 게속해서 회오리 바람 가운데서 욥에게 질문을 퍼 부으셨다: “너는 남자답게 네 허리를 동이라. 내가 네게 요구하리니 너는 내게 표명할지니라.  네가 나의 심판을 무효화시키려느냐? 네가 나를 정죄함으로써 네가 의롭게 되느냐? 네가 하나님과 같은 팔이 있느냐? 네가 그와 같이 음성을 천둥처럼 낼 수 있느냐?”(욥 40:6-9)

        하나님께서는 41장에서 사탄의 정체에 대하여 자세하게 말씀하셨다. 이때에 욥은 하나님께 죄인임을 고백하고 회개하였다.  그는 “내가 주에 대하여 귀로만 들었사오나 이제는 내가 눈으로 주를 보나이다.”(욥 42:5)라고 고백하였다. 그가 하나님을 보기 전에는 자신이 온전한 것으로 생각하였고 하나님께서도 다른 사람에 비하여 의로은 자라고 인정하셨지만 하나님의 음성을 들었을 때 그는 자신의 악함을 처절하게 회개하였던 것이다.

           이 땅에 육신으로 나타나신 주 예수 그리스도께서 니고데모에게 “진실로 진실로 내가 너에게 말하노니사람이 거듭나지 아니하면 하나님의 나라를 볼 수 없느니라…진실로 진실로 내가 너에게 말하노니, 사람이 물과 성령으로 태어나지 아니하면 하나님의 나라에 들어갈 수 없느니라. 육신으로 난 것은 육이요, 또 성령으로 난 것은 영이니라. 내가 너에게 ‘너희는 거듬나야만 한다.’고 말한 것을 이상히 여기지 말라.”(요 3:3,5,6,7)고 하신 말씀을 깊이 생각해 보아야 할 것이다. 왜냐하면, 성령이 없으면 하나님을 볼 수도 없고 그의 말씀 또한 들을 수 없기 때문인 것이다. 사도 디도도 거듭남에 대하여 “우리도 한 때는 어리석고 복종치 아니하며, 미혹당하고, 여러 가지  여러 가지 욕심과 쾌락에 종노릇하며, 서로 증오하는 자였으나 그후 인간을 향한 우리 구주 하나님의 인자하심과 사랑이 나타나서, 우리가 행한 의로운 행위에 의하지 않고 그의 자비하심에 따라 중생(Regeneration)의 씻음과 성령의 새롭게 하심으로 우리를 구원하셨으니 이 성령을 우리에게 풍성히 부어주셨느니라.”(딛 3:3-6)

       하나님께서 선지자 이사야를 통하여 말씀하셨다: “원형의 지구 위에 앉으신 분께서 그분이시니 그곳의 거민들은 메뚜기 같으며…”(사 40:22) 그렇다! 하나님께서 청조하신 온 우주 안에 살고 있는 사람들은 하나님의 눈에 마치 메뚜기 같은 존재인 것이다. 이것을 깨닫는 자는 욥처럼 하나님 앞에 무릎을 꿇고 하나님을 두려워함으로 그분께 자비를 구하게 되는 것이다. 그리고 구원을 받게 되는 것이다. 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 30:1-12

Main scripture: Job 42:1-6

Subject: Miserable situation of sinners before God in the confession of Job.

       Job is confessing of his miserable situation before God in the main passage: “I know that thou canst do everything, and that no thought can be withholden from thee. Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes. “(Job 42:1-6)

       Bible is speaking about Job saying, “…that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.”(Job 1:1) God spoke unto the Satan, “Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”(Job 1:8)

God spoke again with his own mouth. In addition to it, God spoke of Job when he gave his word to Ezekiel of the judgment against Israel saying, “Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it: Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD.”(Ez 13:13, 14)

        Even though God spoke of Job as a righteous man, he didn’t mean him a real righteous man in the New Testament. But he classified him as a righteous man in his age comparing with others according to the standard of the law in the Old Testament. The bible declared, all men are sinners: “There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. “(Rom. 3:10-18)

       God loved Job and blessed his earthly life: ^“And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.”(Job 1:2,3)

But God gave Job to the hand of Satan temporarily, and said to him: “Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. . .” (Job 1:12)

         So Job was emerged into the sieve of Satan in the mystery of God’s permissive will. All his children died in the great wind from the wilderness; and all his cattle were robbed by the Sabeans and the Chaldeans. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shave his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, and said, “Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”(Job 1:22)

     God spoke unto Satan second time, “Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”(Job

2:3) God permitted Satan to tempt him second time upon hearing the accusation of Satan saying, “Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.”(Job 2:6) So went Satan forth the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown. And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes. Then his wife spoke to him, “Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.”(Job 2:9)

But he said unto her, “Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.”(Job 2:10) And in all this did not Job sin with his lips.

        When his friends visited him and tried to accuse him of his sins, he opened his mouth, and poured his thoughts toward them and God: “Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred…..Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it. Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it….I loathe it; I would not live always: let me alone; for my days are vanity…..If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse…..My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me…..That thou enquirest after mine iniquity, and searchest after my sin?….Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.

But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value. …. For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: (Job 6:24,29,30; 7:16; 9:20; 10:1,2,6; 13:3,4; 19:25,26)

        So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes (Job 32; 1). Then Elihu began to speak against Job; he looks like a messenger of God as well as the writer of the book of Job. After he listened to the conversation between Job and his friends, Elihu spoke to Job, “Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's? For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin? “(Job 35:2,3)

When Elihu ended to speak to Job, the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, “Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me” (Job 38:1-3)

       The LORD God poured his words unto Job in the chapter 38 through 41 that he couldn’t answer at all even one word:

“Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding….  ¹⁶Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth? Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death? Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof, That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof? Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great? Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail, ….Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?…Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?”(Job 38:3,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,29,30: 39:1)

       God continued to speak to him; God is also speaking unto all men that are thinking themselves righteous nowadays: ^“Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.”(Job 40:2)

Just then, he answered to the LORD: “Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.”(Job 40:4,5)

God wants to hear the same confession before God as Job. God continued to pour his words unto him in the midst of the whirlwind:

“Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous? Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?”(Job 40:6-9)

God explained about the Satan in the chapter 41. Then Job confessed himself a sinner before God, and said, “I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.”(Job 42:5) He thought himself as perfect before he saw the LORD God; and even God recognized him as a righteous man compared with others. But he understood himself as a miserable evil man, and repented when he heard the voice of the LORD.

       The Lord Jesus Christ manifested in flesh in the earth spoke to Nicodemus: “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God….Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”(John 3:3,5,6,7)

We have to meditate this word deeply, because no one can see God nor hear his word. Apostle Titus testified of regeneration: “For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;”(Tut. 3:3-6)

       God spoke to the world through prophet Isaiah: ^“It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers.”(Isa. 40:22) Yea! All men that are living in the universe that was created by God look like as grasshoppers to the eyes of the LORD God. Whosoever understands this word seeks the mercy of God fearing him to receive salvation of God. Amen! Hallelujah!
