금주의 묵상: 시편 19:1-14

본문: 요한복음 5:39-47

제목: 성경 안에서 예수님을 만나 영생을 얻었는가?

     예수께서 자신을 믿지 않는 유대인들을 향하여 하시는 말씀이다. 그들은 성경에 영생이 있다고 생각은 하였지만 그 영생을 누가 주시는 것인지 몰랐다. 그들은 예수님을 단지 사람의 아들로만 생각하며 그분을 믿지 않았다. 그 이유에 대하여 예수께서는 그들이 성경을 자세하게 공부하지 않았기 때문이라고 말씀하신다. 그렇다! 하나님께서 사람의 몸을 입고 나타나신 예수님을 성경을 연구하지 않고서 어떻게 알 수 있었겠는가? 하나님의 영감으로 기록된 성경(딤후 3:16)말씀을 읽지 않고는 깨달을 수 없는 것이다. 그래서 그들은 영생을 얻기를 원했지만 영생을 얻기 위하여 예수님께로 올 수가 없었던 것이다. 그러나 그들은 모세는 믿었다. 그런데 모세의 말은 믿지 않았다. 실상은 모세도 믿지 않았던 것이다. 그들이 모세를 진실로 믿었다면, 그의 말을 마음에 새기다가 예수님을 만나 영원한 생명을 얻을 수 있었을 것이다. 모세는 오래 전에 이스라엘의 메시야가 선지자의 모습으로 나타날 것을 미리 증거했었다:

 “주 너의 하나님께서 네 가운데로부터 네 형제들 가운데서 나와 같은 한 선지자를 네게 일으키시리니 너희는 그에게  경청할지니라.”(신 18:15)

주 하나님께서 다시 모세에게 말씀하셨다: “내가 그들의 형제들 가운데서 너와 같은 한 선지자를 그들에게 일으켜서 내 말들을 그의 입에 두리라. 그리하면 그는 내가 그에게 명령한 모든 것을 그들에게 말하리라. 그가 내 이름으로 말한 내 말들에 경청하지 않는 자는 누구라도 내가 그에게 그것을 요구하리라.”(신 18:18,19)

       오늘 본문에서 예수께서는 “내가 아버지의 이름으로 왔으나 너희가 나를 영접하지 아니하는도다.”(5:43)라고 유대인들에게 말씀하신다. 다시 말해서 선지자 모세를 통하여 말씀하신 메시야가 자신이라는 것을 밝히 말씀하신 것이다. 그러나 그들은 성경을 상고하지 않았기 때문에 그분을 영접하지 않았던 것이다. 또한  성경을 상고하지 않았기 때문에 영원한 생명을 얻을 기회를 영원히 상실하고 만 것이다. 이 것처럼 비참한 일이 어디에 또 있겠는가? 예수께서는 그후에도 그들에게 생명을 얻을 기회를 주시려고 계속해서 그들에게 말씀하셨다: “진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 모세가 하늘에서 그 빵을 내려 너희에게 준 것이 아니라 나의 아버지께서 하늘에서 참된 빵을 너희에게 주시나니 이는 하나님의 빵은 하늘에서 내려와 세상에 생명을 주시는 그분이시기 때문이니라….내가 생명의 빵이니라. 내게 오는 자는 결코 목마르지 아니하리라. 그러나 내가 너희에게 말하기를 ‘너희가 나를 보고서도 믿지 않느니라.’…또 이것이 나를 보내신 아버지의 뜻이니, 아들을 보고 믿는 사람은 누구나 영생을 얻게 하는 것이라. 그리고 내가 그를 마지막 날에 살리리라.”(요 6:32,33,35,36,39,40)

            그들이 성경을 상고하고 예수님을 보았다면 예수님이 창조주시요 하나님이시며 그분 안에 생명이 있는 것을 알고 그분을 믿고 영생을 얻었을 것이다. 그러나 불행하게도 그 당시 예수님의 제자들을 포함하여 소수의 사람들만 예수님을 보고 그분이 생명을 주시는 그리스도이심을 알고 그분을 믿어 영접하여 생명을 받았던 것이다. 유대인들은 아직까지도 소수의 사람들 외에는 예수님이 하나님의 아들이시며 이스라엘의 메시야이심을 알지 못하여 그분을 믿지 못하고 있는 것이다. 그러나 그들은 대 환란이 시작될 때 나타나는 적그리스도를 그들의 메시야로 영접하게 될 것이라 예수께서 말씀하셨으며 조만간 그대로 이루어질 것이다. 예수께서는 아버지의 이름으로 이 세상에 오셨지만 적그리스도는 자기 이름으로 와서 자신이 하나님이라고 그들을 속일 것이다. 그때가 되어서야 그들은 속은 것을 알고 산으로 도망하게 될 것이다. 이 일을 미리 보신 예수께서 미리 말씀하셨다: “그러므로 너희가 선지자 다니엘을 통하여 말씀하신 멸망의 가증한 것이 거룩한 곳에 선 것을 보리니, (읽는 자는 깨달으라.) 그때에 유대에 있는 자들은 산들로 도망하라.”(마 24:15, 16)

       대 환란의 때에 적그리스도에 속은 유대인들이 산으로 도망하여 얼마나 비참하게 될 것인지에 대해 선지자 에스겔은 이렇게 예언했다:

 “밖에는 칼이 있고 안에는 전염병과 기근이 있으니 들에 있는 자는 칼로 죽을 것이요, 성읍에 있는 자는 기근과 전염병이 삼키리라. 그러나 그들 가운데 도피하는 자들은 도피하여 골짜기의 비둘기처럼 산들 위에 있을 것이요, 모두가 각기 자기의 죄악 때문에 슬피 울리라. 모든 손들은 유약하고 모든 무릎들은 물처럼 연약하리라.”(겔 7:15-17)

       오늘날은 어떠한가? 예수께서는 유대인이나 이방인이나 차별 없이 그들에게 생명을 주시기 위하여 자신의 죽음을 통하여 세상 죄를 이미 제거하신 후 (요 1:39) 하늘에 올라가셔서 모든 사람들의 주와 생명을 주시는 그리스도(메시야)가 되셨다. 사도 베드로는 오순절에 이 사실을  선포했다: “그러므로 이스라엘의 온 집이 분명하 알 것은, 너희가 십자가에 못박은 이 예수를 하나님께서 주와 그리스도가 되게 하신 것이라.”(행 2:36) 그분께서는 이 세상에 더 이상 계시지 않는다. 그러므로 우리는 그분을 육안으로 볼 수도 없고 만날 수도 없는 것이다. 그분께서 이 세상에 육신을 가지시고 다니실 때에는 그분을 보고 믿는 자들에게 영생을 주셨는데 우리들은 어떻게 영생을 얻을 것인가?  예수께서는 분명히 말씀하셨다: “이는 너희가 성경에 영생이 있다고 생각함이니, 그 성경은 나에 관하여 증거하고 있음이라.”(요 5:39) 예수께서는 당시 구약 성경 안에 영생이 있다고 그들이 생각하고 있다고 말씀하셨다. 그런데 생각만 하고 막상 성경을 상고하지 않고 있었다. 그들이 성경을 상고하지 않았기 때문에 예수님이 누구신지 알 수 없었고 동시에 그분께로 나와 영생을 얻을 수 없었던 것이다.

              예수께서 승천하신 후에 하나님께서는 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 성령을 보내셔서 성령으로 충만한 사도들을 통하여 예수님이 누구신지 더욱 상세하게 증거하게 하셨다. 다시 말해서 구약 성경 외에 신약 성경까지 주신 것이다. 그러나 불행하게도 소수의 사람들 외에 대부분의 사람들은 여전히 이 성경을 상고하기를 싫어하고 있는 것이다, 그러므로 예수님이 하나님이시요 창조주이시며 영원한 생명을 주시는 그리스도(메시야)이심을 깨달을 수 없는 것이다. 성령께서는 신약 성경을 통하여 예수를 믿지 않는 것이 죄이며, 에수 그리스도를 믿음으로 의롭게 되지 않으면 하늘에 갈 수 없고, 이 세상 통치자 마귀는 이미 심판을 받았다고 지금도 증거하시며 세상을 책망하고 계시는  것이다 (요 16:8-11)

             오늘날 살고 있는 유대인이나 이방인이나 차별 없이 모든 사람들은 성경을 상고하지 않고서는 예수님이 하나님이심을 알 수 없는 것이다. 특별히 성령께서는 사도 요한을 통하여 요한복음을 기록하게 하심으로써 예수님이 하나님의 아들이심을 자세하게 증거하게 하셨다. 요한복음이 기록된 이유에 대하여 성령께서는 이렇게 말씀하신다:

“실로 예수께서는 그의 제자들의 면전에서 이 책에 기록되지 아니한 다른 많은 표적들을 행하셨으나, 다만 이것들을 기록한 것은 너희로 예수가 그리스도, 곧 하나님의 아들이심을 믿게 하려는 것이요, 또 믿음으로써 그의 이름을 통해 생명을 얻게 하려 함이라.”(요 20:30,31)

            이 얼마나 은혜로운 말씀이며 감사한  말씀인가? 지금은 유대인이나 이방인이나 요한복음만이라도 상고하면 예수님이 하나님의 아들이시며 메시야이신 것을 믿게 되어 영원한 생명을 얻을 수가 있다니! 이것이 하나님의 은혜인 것이다. 그런데 글을 읽지 못하는 사람들을 생각하시며 사도 바울을 통하여 다시 한 번 말씀하셨다: “네가 네 입으로 주 예수를 시인하고 또 하나님께서 그를 죽은 자들보터 살리신 것을 네 마음에 믿으면 구원을 받으리라. 이는 사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고 입으로 고백하여 구원을 받으리라. 이는 사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고 입으로 고백하여 구원에 이르기 때문이라….그러므로 믿음은 들음에서 나오며 들음은 하나님의 말씀에 의해서니라.”(롬 10:9, 10, 17) 하나님의 말씀을 읽을 수 없어도 듣을 수만 있다면 누구나 영원한 생명을 받을 수 있는 것이다.

             영원한 생명을 받을 수 있는 길은 오직 한 길밖에 없다. 예수님만이 길이요 진리요 생명이시기 때문이다 (요 14:6). 세상 어떤 과학도 생명을 줄 수 없는 것이다. 세상의 모든 교육이나 과학이나 모든 지식은 사망 아래 있는 사람들에게 약간의 유익을 주거나 목숨을 연장해 주는 데 그치기 때문이다. 하나님의 말씀만이 생명을 주실 수 있으며 그 말씀 안에 있는 예수님만이 생명의 근원이신 것이다. 성경을 상고해 보았는가? 그렇다면 생명의 주이신 예수님을 만났는가? 그분을 보고 믿었는가? 그렇다면 영원한 생명을 받았는가? 영생을 받은 증거가 있는가? 다시 말해서 구원의 확신이 있는가? 또 한 번 말해서 오늘 이 세상을 떠나도 하늘에 계신 주님을 만날 수있는 확신을 가졌는가? 생명을 받은 사도 요한은 이렇게 증거했다:

“하나님의 아들을 믿는 자는 자기 안에  증거가 있고, 하나님을 믿지 믿지 아니하는 자는 하나님을 거짓말쟁이로 만드나니 이는 하나님께서 그 아들에 관하여 주신 증거를 믿지 아니하기 때문이라. 또 증거는 이것이니, 하나님께서 우리에게 영생을 주신 것과, 이 생명이 그의 아들 안에 있다는 것이라.”(요일 5:10,11)

     예수께서 유대인들에게 말씀하셨다:

 “빛이 있을 동안에 너희는 그 빛을 믿으라. 그리하면 빛의 자녀들이 되리라.”(요 12:36) 그렇다면 오늘날 우리들에게는 어떻게 말씀하시는가? 육신이 살아있는 동안 빛이며 생명이신 하나님의 말씀인 성경을 상고하라! 그리고 빛이신 예수님을 믿으라! 그리하면 생명을 받아 생명이신 하나님의 아들들, 즉 빛의 자녀들이 되리라!

“영생은 이것이니, 곧 사람들이 유일하시고 참 하나님이신 어버자와 아버지께서 보내신 예수 그리스도를 아는 것이옵니다. (요 17:3)아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: psalms 19:1-14

Main scripture: John 5:39-47

Subject: Do you have eternal life received from Jesus in the scriptures?

       This is the message of Jesus unto the Jews that don’t believe in him. They thought that there is eternal life in the scriptures, but they didn’t know who is to give it unto them. They didn’t believe in Jesus, for they thought he is only a son of man. Jesus told them, they couldn’t believe in him, because they didn’t search the scriptures. Yea! How could they understand that Jesus was the one that God was manifested in flesh without searching the scriptures? No one can understand who Jesus is unless one search the scriptures that are inspired by the Spirit of God (2Tim. 3:16). Even though they wanted to have eternal life, but they couldn’t come to Jesus for eternal life. Instead, they believed Moses; but they didn’t believe his words. Actually they didn’t believe Moses either. If they had believed Moses truly, they could have eternal life through engraving his words from Jesus. Moses testified of the Messiah of Israel that will appear as a prophet long time ago: ^“The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;”(Deut. 18:15) The LORD God spoke to Moses again:   ^“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.”(Deut. 18:18, 19)

         In the main passage, Jesus spoke unto the Jews saying,   ^“I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.”(John 5:43)  In other word, he is the one that Moses spoke unto them as the Messiah. But they didn’t receive him for they didn’t search the scriptures. Therefore they lost the opportunity to receive the eternal life forever, because they didn’t search the scriptures. What a miserable thing it was in the world?  Jesus spoke unto them again and again to give the opportunity for the eternal life:  ^“…Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world…I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst….   ³⁶But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not…   ³⁹And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”(John 6:32,33,35,36,39,40)

       If they had searched the scriptures and seen him, they could have understood Jesus as the Creator as well as God in whom life is. But unfortunately, only small number of people could understand Jesus as their Messiah to receive eternal life through believing in him. Even nowadays, the majority of the Jews don’t understand Jesus as their Messiah as well as the Son of God. But they will receive the Anti-Christ as their Messiah in the Great tribulation as said by Jesus sooner or later.  Jesus came in the name of the Father, but the Anti-Christ will come in his name deceive them saying, he is God. Then they shall repent that they were deceived by him, and they shall flee to the mountains. Jesus spoke unto them about it:   ^“When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains :”(Matt. 24:15,16)

       Prophet Ezekiel prophesied of the Jews that are to flee into the mountains miserably after they are to be deceived by the Anti-Christ in the Great Tribulation   ^“The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him. But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, every one for his iniquity. All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water. “(Ez. 7:15-17)

       What about today? Jesus has become the Lord and Christ (Messiah) in heaven to give unto the Jew as well as the Gentiles after taking away the sin of the world through his death (John 1:39). Apostle Peter declared this truth on the day of Pentecost: “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.”(Acts 2:36) Jesus is not here in the world anymore. We cannot see him with our eyes; God gave the eternal life unto them that believed in him seeing him; then how can we have eternal life now? Jesus said very clealy, “….for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”(John 5:39) Jesus said unto them, they thought of the eternal life in the Old Testament. But they didn’t search the scriptures. Therefore they could not understand who Jesus is, and could not come to receive the eternal life.

         After Jesus was lifted to heaven, God the Father sent the Holy Ghost in the name of Jesus. And the Spirit of God testified of Jesus in more details through the Apostles that were filled with the Spirit. In other word, the New Testament was given to the world. But unfortunately majority of people still hate to search the scriptures only except small number of people; therefore they couldn’t understand Jesus as God as well as Christ (Messiah) that gives eternal life. The Holy Ghost is still reproving the world of sin because they don’t believe in Jesus; of righteousness, because they cannot go to heaven unless they are righteous through believing in Jesus; of judgment, the prince of the world is judged (john 16:8-11)

       All men regardless they are the Jews or gentiles cannot understand Jesus as God unless they search the scriptures. Especially the Holy Ghost made John write the book of John to testify Jesus as the Son of God in details. The Holy Ghost explains of the reason why the book of John was written:   ^“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”(John 20:30,31)

         What a word of grace to give thanksgiving? Nowadays, regardless they are the Jews or the Gentiles, they can have understanding of Jesus as the Son of God so that they may receive the eternal life only through searching the book of John; this is the true grace of God. Considering about them that cannot read, Apostle Paul spoke in the Spirit:   “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation….   ¹⁷So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”(Rom. 10:9,10,17)

If whosoever can hear the word of God, even though they cannot read, can receive the eternal life.

       There is the only one way to receive the eternal life, for Jesus is the way and the truth and the life (John 14:6) Science can never give life unto anyone in the world. All the knowledge of education or science only can give a little benefit to people or extend the time of life a little bit under death. Only the word of God can give the eternal life unto men; and only Jesus in the scriptures is the source of life. Have you ever searched the scripture? Then have you ever met Jesus? Have you believed in him through seeing him? Then have received the eternal life? Do you have the record of eternal life within you? In other word are you sure to go to heaven? In another word, if you leave the world today, are you sure to see the Lord in heaven? Apostle John who had the eternal life testified:  ^“He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. “(1John 5:10,11)

       Jesus said unto the Jews: ^“While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.”(John 12:36)

Then, how he speaks unto us today? Search the scriptures that are the light, and the life and the word of God while you are living in the flesh! And believe in Jesus who is the light! Then you shall be the children of light that is the children of light through receiving the life.

^“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”(John 17:3)
