금주의 묵상: 시편 1:1-6

본문: 요한복음 15:1-14

제목: 포도나무에 붙어 있어 많은 열매를 맺고 있는가?

       예수께서 겟세마네 동산으로 마지막 기도를 드리시기 위하여 제자들과 함께 기드론 골짜기를 걸으시면서 마지막으로 하신 유언의 말씀이다. “나는 참 포도나무요"라는 한 마디 말씀에 엄청난 뜻이 담겨져 있는 것이다. 주님의 제자들은 이사야나 예레미야나 에스겔 같은 선지자들의 예언들을 잘 배워서 알고 있었던 지라 이 말씀 한 마디가 무엇을 의미하는지 뼈 속 깊히 알았을 것이다.

       성경에는 여러가지 나무들이 등장하는데, 올리브 나무나 무화과 나무나 포도나무는 이스라엘을 상징하고 있다. 특히 본문에서 주님께서 “나는 참 포도나무”라는 말씀 속에 포도나무로서 이스라엘이 앞으로 대환란 때에 어떻게 될 것인지에 대하여 미리 아시고 하시는 말씀인 것이다. 시편 기자인 아삽은 이스라엘을 한 그루의 포도나무라고 말하면서 증거했다: “주께서 이집트에서 포도나무 한 그루를 가져 오셔서 이방을 내어 쫓으시고 그 포도나무를 심으셨나이다. 주께서 그 앞에 자리를 마련하시고 뿌리를 깊이 내리게 하시니 그것이 땅을 메웠으며 산들이 그 나무의 그림자에 덮였고 그 나무의 줄기들은 훌륭한 백향목들 같았으며 그 나무의 줄기들은 바다까지 뻗쳤고 가지들은 강까지 뻗쳤나이다. 어찌하여 주께서는 그 울타리를 허셔서 길을 지나가는 모든 곳들로 그 나무를 뽑게 하시나이까?”(시 80:8-12)

       선지자 이사야는 이 포도나무가 뽑히게 된 이유에 대하여 증거했다: “이제 내가 나의 지극히 사랑하는 자에게 노래하리니, 그의 포도원에 관하여 나의 사랑하는 자의 노래를 부르리라. 나의 지극히 사랑하는 자는 심히 기름진 산에 포도원을 가졌도다. 그가 울타리를 두르며, 거기서 돌을 주워내고 최상품 포도나무를 심으며, 그 가운데 망대를 세우고 그 안에 포도즙틀도 만들었도다. 그가 포도가 열리기를 바랐더니 야생 포도가 열렸도다…이제 가라. 내가 내 포도원에게 할 일을 너희에게 말하리라. 내가 거기에서 울타리를 헐어 내어 먹히게 할 것이며, 거기에서 담을 헐어 짓밟히게 하리라.”(사 5:1-2,5)

       하나님께서는 선지자 에스겔을 통하여 열매 맺지 못하는 포도나무가 어떤 존재인지에 대해 말씀하셨다:

“인자야, 포도나무가 다른 나무보다 나은 것이 무엇이며 삼림의 나무들 중에 있는 그 가지보다 나은 것이 무엇이냐? 거기서 취한 나무로 무슨 일을 할 수 있겠으며 사람들이 거기에서 무슨 그릇을 걸 못 한 개를 취할 수 있겠느냐? 보라, 그것은 땔감으로 불에 던져지며 불이 그 양끝을 삼키고 그 중간을 사르리니 그것이 무엇을 만드는데 적합하겠느냐? 보라, 그것이 온전하게 있었을 때에도 무엇을 만드는 데 적합치 못하였거늘 불에 삼켜지고 살라졌을 때에는 무엇을 만드는 데 얼마나 더 적합치 않겠느냐? 그러므로 주 하나님이 이같이 말하노라. 내가 삼림의 나무들 가운데서 포도나무를 땔감으로 불에 내애 준 것처럼 내가 예루살렘의 거민들도 그렇게 내어주리라.”(겔 15:2-6)

      주께서 말씀하신대로 열매 맺지 못한 이스라엘은 바벨론에 의하여 불타버리는 신세가 되었으며, 아직까지도 그들은 하나님이신 예수 그리스도를 대적하는 일로부터 돌이키지 않고 있기에 마지막 남은 한 이래, 즉 대환란 때에 더 큰 바벨론에 의해 다시 한 번 불에 타버리는 일을 당하게 될 것이다.

      주님께서 본문에서 “나는 참 포도나무요”라고 하신 말씀은 주 예수 그리스도께서 이 땅에 오셔서 이스라엘에 왕국을 회복하시기 전에는 아무도 이스라엘을 세워서 열매 맺는 나라를 만들 수 없음을 말씀하시고 있는 것이다. 이 때에는 유대인이나 이방인이나 하나님의 교회들 모두가 참 포도나무 아래에서 영원히 열매 맺는 축복을 받게 될 것이라는 것이다. 그러므로 누구든지 주 예수 그리스도를 믿는 사람들은 지금 이미 가지들이 된 것이라고 주님은 말씀하신다. 그분의 피를 믿고 그분을 주님으로 영접한 모든 사람은 이미 참 포도나무에 붙어 있는 가지들이라는 것이다. 그분 안에 있는 영원한 생명을 받았기 때문인 것이다. 그러므로 열매 맺기 위하여는 오직 한 길밖에 없으니 포도 나무에 붙어 있어야 하는 것이다. 포도 나무에 붙어 있기만 하면 저절로 열매를 맺는 것은 당연한 것이기 때문이다. 또한 가지가 포도나무에 붙어 있지 아니하면 말라서 불 속에서 타는 길밖에  없는 것이다.

      포도나무 가지는 제 몸 하나 제대로 가누지도 못하고 다른 나무를 칭칭 감고 올라가야 되고 그렇지 않으면 땅을 기어가야 하는 아주 별 볼 일 없는 나무가지인지라 포도나무에 붙어 있지 아니하면 나무 가지들 중에서 가장 볼품없는 가지인 것이다. 사도 바울은 고린도교회 성도들을 향하여 이렇게 말씀햇다:

“형제들아, 너희는 너희의 부르심을 보라. 부르심을 받은 자들은 육신을 따라 지혜로운 자가 많지 않고 권력 있는 자도 많지 않으며 좋은 가문에서 태어난 자도 많지 아니하니라. 그러나 하나님께서 세상의 어리석은 것들을 선택하심은 지혜로운 자들로 부끄럽게 하시려는 것이요, 하나님께서 세상의 약한 것들을 선택하심은 강한 것들을 부끄럽게 하시려는 것이라. 하나님께서 세상의 천한 것들과 멸시받는 것들을 선택하신 것은 없는 것들로 있는 것들을 쓸모없게 만들려 하심이라. 그리하여 아무 육체라도 그분의 면전에서 자랑하지 못하게 되리라. 그러나 너희는 그분께로부터 나서 그리스도 예수 안에 있고 주께서는 하나님께로부토 나셔서 우리에게 지혜와 의와 거룩함과 구속이 되셨으,니 기록된 바와 같이 자랑하는 자는 주를 자랑할지니라.”(고전 1:26-31)

       그렇다! 이제 우리들은 참 포도나무이신 주 예수 그리스도를 떠나서는 아무 것도 할 수 없는 존재들이 되어 버린 것이다. 우리는 더 이상 세상에 있지 아니하고 하나님의 왕국에 들어와 있기 때문이다. 우리는 세상 사람들처럼 먹고 마시는 일을 따라가는 사람들이 아니며 성령 안에 있는 의와 화평과 기쁨(롬 14:17)을 누리면서 살아가는 사람들인 것이다. 이제는 주 안에 가하면서 많은 열매를 맺어 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 아버지를 영화롭게 하는 일을 위하여 사는 자들이 된 것이다. 우리는 죽으나 사나 지혜의 말씀이요, 지식의 말씀이며 생명의 말씀 안에 뿌리를 내리고 성령의 열매를 맺을 뿐만 아니라 성령의 열매를 통하여 나타나는 그리스도의 향기를 냄으로써 죄인들을 하나님의 왕국으로 초청해야 하는 것이다. 지금도 이 세상은 수십억의 사람들이 여전히 마귀의 수중에 갇혀서 죽어 지옥으로 떨어지고 있기 때문이다.

      열매 맺는 삶을 살 때에 예수 그리스도의 제자가 되며, 서로 사랑하라는 새 계명을 성실히 지킬 때에 안에 계신 그리스도께서 기뻐하심을 통하여 우리 안에 그 기쁨으로 충만하게 되어 우리는 마침내 주님의 친구들이 되는 것이다. 그러므로 시편 기자는 복 있는 사람에 대하여 “그의 즐거움이 주의 법에 있으니, 그가 주의 법을 주야로 묵상하는도다. 그는 강가에 심겨진 나무 같아서 계절을 따라 열매를 맺으며, 그의 잎사귀도 마르지 아니하리니, 그가 무엇을 하든지 번성하리로다.”(시 1:2,3)라고 증거했다.

     그렇다! 우리가 살 길은 오직 주님의 말씀 안에 뿌리를 내리고 아무리 거친 바람이 들이 닥쳐서 가지가 흔들릴지라도 끝까지 참 포도나무이신 주님 안에 거하면서 말씀 안에 있는 믿음으로 세상을 이기는 삶을 살아야 하는 것이다. 그러기 위해서는 하나님의 말씀을 읽고 듣고 묵상하는 일이 최 우선이 되는 삶을 살아야 하는 것이다. 그 외에는 다른 방법이 없기 때문이다. 삶 속에서 불어오는 풍파가 심해질 때일수록 시험에 들지 말고 포도나무이신 주님의 말씀을 떠나지 않고 죽으면 죽으리라는 마음으로 말씀 안에 꼭 붙어 있으면서  주님 안에 끝까지 거할 때 농부이신 아버지 하나님께서 천사들을 보내시어 버팀목을 세워주시고 우리를 붙들어 주실 것이다. 아멘 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 1:1-6

Main scripture: John 15:1-14

Subject: Are you bearing much fruit in the vine tree?

    This is one of the final words given to the disciples walking through the valley toward the garden at the Olive Mount to make the final prayer. There is a great meaning in a word saying, “I am the true vine.” His disciples must have understood the message in his word, for they must have been aware in the deep of their heart even to their bones of the prophesies of Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel.

      There appear various trees in the scriptures such as Olive tree, fig tree and vine tree that symbolize Israel. Especially, in the main passage, Jesus already knew Israel as a vine tree of which destiny in the Great Tribulation to come, when he said, “I am the true vine. Asaph, a writer of Psalms0 testified of Israel as a vine tree:  ^“Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it. Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land. The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars. She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river. Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?”(Ps 80:8-12)

      Prophet Isaiah testified of the reason why it was plucked:   ^“Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. …… And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down :”(Isa. 5:1,2,5)

       God spoke about the vine tree that cannot bear fruits through Prophet Ezekiel: ^“Son of man, what is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest? Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon? Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work? Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned? Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.”(Ez. 15:2-6)

       As the Lord God prophesied, Israel had to be burnt by Babylon, because it couldn’t bear fruits. Even yet, people of Israel still not repents from the sin that they crucified the Lord Jesus so that they shall be burnt again by the bigger Babylon in the final week that is the Great Tribulation to come.

       When Jesus said, “I am the true vine.” he actually meant that it is totally impossible for Israel to bear the fruits unless he returns to restore his kingdom in Israel. Then, the Jew and the gentiles and the church of God shall be blessed to bear the fruits under the true vine. Therefore, whosoever believes in the Lord Jesus Christ are already the branches, saith the Lord Jesus. In other word, whosoever believe in the blood of Jesus and receives are the branches being attached to the true vine, for they received the eternal life in him. Therefore, there is only way to bear the fruits that is to abide in the vine. It is natural for them to bear the fruits automatically when they abide in him. If a branch abides not in the vine, it shall be withered, and burnt in the fire; there is no other way at all.

       The branch of vine cannot hold itself; so it should crawl other trees up; if not, it is to crawl on the ground. If it does not abide in the vine, it is the worst one of the trees. Apostle Paul spoke to the saints of Corinthians: ^“For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.”(1Cor. 1:26-31)

       Yea! We cannot anything departing the Lord Jesus Christ that is the true vine. We no more belong to the world; we already are in the kingdom of God. We are not ones that follow meat and drinking anymore, but rather we have righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. The purpose of our life is to glorify the Father through bearing much fruits abiding in the Lord Jesus. We have to root ourselves into the word of wisdom and the word of knowledge and the word of life to bear the fruit of the Spirit. We have to invite sinners to the kingdom of God through the sweet savour in the fruit of the Spirit. Even now, tens of millions of people are still in the bondage of the Devil to be cast into the hell.

       When we bear the fruits, we shall be his disciples; even we shall be his friends when we are full of his joy through his joy within us when we keep his new commandment sincerely. The Psalmist testified of the blessed one:  ^“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”(Ps 1:2,3)

       Yea! Only way for us to live be to root ourselves into the words of the Lord to abide in the Lord, the true vine so that we may have the faith in his words to overcome the world. To do so, we have to put the first priority on reading and hearing and meditating the words of God. . There is no other way at all. More gusty winds against us, more we have to abide in his words with all our heart to death not giving any chance the devil that is tempting us. Then our Father God that is the husbandman shall send his angels to make us firm to abide in him. Amen! Hallelujah!
