금주의 묵상: 시편 19:1-14

본문: 요한삼서 1:1-8

제목: 진리 안에서 행하는 자의 축복

       사도 요한은 자신이 지극히 사랑하는 형제 가이오에게 편지하고 있다. 요한은 그를 진리 안에서 사랑한다고 쓰고 있다. 그가 가이오를 사랑하는 이유에 대하여 그는 가이오가 진리 안에서 행하고 있으며 교회 안에서 다른 형제들과 나그네들을 잘 섬기기 때문이라고 증거하고 있다. 가이오처럼 교회 안에 있는 그리스도의 몸된 지체들과 교회를 방문하는 복음전도자들 같은 나그네들을 잘 영접하는 것이 진리 안에서 행하는 것이라고 증거하고 있는 것이다.

       가이오는 사도 바울이 에베소에서 복음을 전하였을 때 우상을 만들어 파는 세공장이들로 인하여 온 성읍이 혼란으로 가득 차게 되었을 때 가이오도 군중들에 의해 붙잡히는 일도 당했다 (행 19:28,29). 사도 바울은 로마에 보내는 편지에서 가이오를 소개할 때에 “교회의 집주인”, 즉 교회에서 형제 자매들을 잘 대접하는 형제라고 증거했다 (롬 16:23)

      그렇다! 하나님께서 이 땅을 내려다 보실 때에 가장 귀한 사람들이 누구인가? 바로 그리스도의 몸된 교회에 속해 있는 지체들, 즉 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 형제 자매들이 아닌가? 예수 그리스도는 바로 진리의 말씀 그 자체가 아니신가? 그러므로 진리 안에서 행하는 가장 중요한 열매가 무엇인가? 바로 교회 안에 있는 형제 자매들을 그리스도를 섬기듯 잘 섬기는 일이 아니겠는가? 성령께서는 사도 요한을 통하여 그러한 섬김을 행하는 가이오를 향하여 “지극히 사랑하는 가이오에게 편지하노니, 내가 진리 안에서 그를 사랑하노라.”(1절)고 말씀하고 있는 것이다.

     성령께서 가이오에게 어떤 축복을 하셨는가? “사랑하는 자여, 무엇보다도 네 혼이 잘됨같이(prospers) 네가 번성하고(prosper) 강건하기를 바라노라.”는 것이었다. 그렇다면, 그의 혼이 어떻게 잘 되었는가? 사도 베드로가 “이는 너희 믿음의 결과, 곧 너희 혼들의 구원을 받음이니라.”(벧전 1:9)고 증거한 것처럼 가이오는 주 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 그의 혼이 구원받아 이미 잘 된 사람이었다는 것이다. 뿐만 아니라, 그의 혼이 진리 안에 행함으로써 이미 번성하게 되었다는 것이다. 다시 말해서 그가 행한 선행으로 인하여 하늘에 많은 상급을 쌓았다는 것이다.

      옛날 구원받이 혼이 잘 된 다윗 왕은 이렇게 증거했다: “오 내 혼아, 주를 송축하라. 내 안에 있는 모든 것들아, 그의 거룩한 이름을 송축하라. 오 내 혼아, 주를 송축하고 그의 모든 베푸심을 잊지 말라.. 그는 네 모든 죄악을 용서하시며 네 모든 질병을 치유하시고 너의 생명을 파멸에서 구속하시며 자애와 온유한 자비로 관을 씌우시고 좋은 것들로 네 입을 흡족케 하시니 네 젊음이 독수리의 젊음같이 새로워지는도다.”(시 103:1-5) 또한 다윗은 기도할 때에 “오 주여, 내가 나의 혼을 들어올리나이다. 오 나의 하나님이여, 내가 주를 신뢰하나이다.”(시 25:1,2)라고 말하면서 그의 구원받은 혼을 온전히 하나님께 들어올려드리면서 그분만을 신뢰한다고 고백했다.

       또한 마리아가 가브리엘 천사의 방문을 받고 예수님을 잉태할 것에 대해 말씀을 들었을 때 그 말씀을 아멘으로 받고 그의 친족 엘리사벳을 만나서 “너는 여자들 가운데 복이 있으며 너의 태의 열매가 복이 있도다.”(눅 1:38-45)라는 말씀을 들었을 때, 그가 어떤 고백을 하였는가? “내 혼이 주를 드높이며 내 영이 하나님 내 구주 안에서 기뻐하였도다.”(눅 1:46,47)라고 주 하나님을 찬양했다.

       그렇다! 누구든지 주 예수 그리스도를 믿어 구원받은 사람은 자신의 혼을 다하여 하나님을 사랑하여야 하며 동시에 하나님의 사람들을 사랑해야 하는 것이다. 이것이 혼이 잘되는 길인 것이다. 주님께서도 가장 큰 계명에 대하여 묻는 질문에 “너는 네 마음을 다하고, 혼을 다하고, 생각을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라. 이것이 첫째며, 큰 게명이니라. 둘째는 이와 같으니, 네 이웃을 네 자신과 같이 사랑하라. 모든 율법과 선지서들이 이 두 계명에 달려 있느니라.”(마 22:37-40)

     그러면 어떻게 하나님을 마음과 혼과 생각을 다하여 사랑할 수 있는가? 그분을 온전히 신뢰하고 다른 신을 섬기지 않는 것이 아니겠는가? 그러면 어떻게 하는 것이 다른 신을 두지 않는 것인가? 그분의 말씀인 진리만을 믿고 그 안에서 행하는 것이 아니겠는가? 그리고 우리의 이웃이 누구인가? 우리가 있는 곳은 세상이 아니고 하나님의 나라(왕국)가 아닌가? 그러면 주 안에 있는 형제 자매들이 우리의 첫 번째 이웃인 것이다. 또한 세상에 있는 이웃들에게는 진리의 말씀을 전해서 그들 또한 영원한 생명을 받을 수 있도록 복음 전하는 것이 진정으로 그들을 사랑하는 길인 것이다. 그러므로 “하나님께서 세상을 이처럼 사랑하셔서 그의 독생자를 주셨으니 이는 그를 믿는 사람은 누구든지 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라.”(요 3:16)고 주님께서 친히 말씀하셨다.

      본문에 나오는 가이오는 진리 안에서 말만 하는 것이 아니고 그 안에서 몸으로 행함으로써 그의 혼이 이미 잘 된 사람이었다. 하나님께서는 혼이 잘 된 그에게 번성하고 강건(in health)하기를 바란다는 축복의 말씀을 주신 것이다. 하나님께서 우리를 구원하신 목적에 대하여 사도 바울은 이렇게  증거했다:  “그가 우리를 위하여 자신을 주신 것은 우리를 모든 죄악에서 구속하시고 자신을 위해 정결케 하사 선한 일에 열심을 내는 독특한 백성이 되게 하려 하심이라.”(딛 2:14)

     성령께서는 사도 요한을 통하여 “나의 자녀들이 진리 안에서 행한다는 것을 듣는 것보다 더 큰 기쁨이 없느니라.”(4절) 고 말씀하신다. 주님께서도 자신을 믿은 유대인들에게 “너희가 내 말에 거하면 참으로 내 제자가 되고 진리를 알게 되리니 그 진리가 너희를 자유롭게 하리라.”(요 8:31,32)고 말씀하셨다. 그렇다! 육신적인 생각으로 행하면 사망이며, 영적으로, 다시 말해서 진리의 말씀을 믿고 생각하며 행하면 나중은 생명과 화평이 되는 것이며 (롬 8:6) 이것이 번성케 되며 강건케 되는 길 인 것이다. 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 19:1-14

Subject: Blessing for them that walk in the truth

    Apostle John is writing unto the wellbeloved Gaius. John said that he loves him in the truth. Apostle John testifies of the reason that he loves Gaius saying, he walks in the truth, and also he does faithfully to other brothers in the church as well as to strangers. Apostle John gives him credit as walking in the truth, for he serves other members in the church as well as stranger such as evangelists.

       Gaius was with Apostle Paul when he was preaching in Ephesus; and the whole city was filled with confusion accused by a silversmith. Gaius was arrested by the crowd (Acts 19:28, 29). Apostle Paul introduced Gaius to the saints of Romans as the host of the whole church that served the brothers and sisters in the church (Rom. 16:23)

      Yea! Who are the most precious people to the eyes of God when he looks down to the earth? They must be the member of the body of Christ that is the church of God that is brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ himself is the very truth. Therefore, what is the most important fruit of walking in the truth? It must be ministering brothers and sisters in the church as ministering Christ. Apostle John testifies of Gaius saying, “… wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.”(V1)

       The Holy Ghost blessed him through Apostle John saying,

^“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”(V2)

Then, how his soul prospers? As Apostle Peter testified saying, “Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”(1Pet. 1:9), his soul was saved to prosper through believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. In addition to it, his soul prospered through walking in the truth; in other word, he reserved rewards in heaven with his good deeds.

       King Davis whose soul prospered testified:   ^“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.”(Ps. 103:1-5)

He always lifted up his soul unto the LORD saying, he trusted only in the LORD.

       Mary received the word of Gabriel saying that she shall conceive Jesus; and she met with Elisabeth, her relative. Elisabeth said to her, “Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.”(Luke 1:38-45). Then Mary praised the Lord saying, my soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

       Yea! Whosoever is saved through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ has to love God with all his soul as well as the people of God. This is the way for the soul to prosper. The Lord Jesus answered the question of what is the greatest commandment:

 ^“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”(Matt. 22:37-40)

       Then, how can we love God with all our heart and soul and thoughts? It must be only to trust in God not serving any other gods; in other word, only walking in his words only trusting in his word of truth. Then who is our neighbor? We are now in the kingdom of God not in the world. Then, brothers and sisters in the Lord are our first neighbors. At the same time, we have to preach the gospel to the neighbors in the world so that they may receive the eternal life; it is the real way to love them. Therefore Jesus himself testified:   ^“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”(John 3; 16)

       Gaius in the main passage was not the man of saying, but acted with his body to minister others so that his soul prospered. It was the reason why he received the word of blessing of prosperity and being in health. Apostle Paul testified of the purpose that God saved us:  ^“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”(Tit. 2:14)

     The Holy Ghost is speaking unto us through Apostle John,

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”(V4) Jesus also said to the Jews that believed on him.  ^“If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. “(John 8:31, 32)

Yea!  Walk in carnally thoughts is death; but spiritually thinking to walk in the truth is peace and life (Rom. 8:6)

This is the only way for us to prosper and in health. Amen! Hallelujah!
