금주의 묵상: 시편 48:1-14

본문: 고린도전서 9:19-27

제목: 무엇을 얻으려고 현 세상을 살고 있는가?

     오늘 본문에서 사도 바울이 자신의 삶의 목적에 대하여 증거하고 있다. 그는 모든 사람으로부터 자유인이 되었지만 스스로 모든 사람에게 종이 되었다. 그 이유에 대하여 유대인이나, 율법 아래 있는 사람들에게나, 율법 없는 자들에게나, 약한 사람들에게나  스스로 종이 된것은 그들중 몇 사람을 예수 그리스도께로 인도하여 구원코자 하기 때문이라고 증거했다.

         다시 말해서 그리스도의 복음, 즉 누구든지 예수 그리스도의 복음, 즉 그리스도께서 성경대로 모든 사람들의 죄들을 위하여 죽으시고 장사되셨다가 성경대로 셋째 날에 살아나신 사실을 마음에 전심으로 믿고(행 8:37) 입으로 고백하기만 하면 모든 죄들을 용서받고 성령을 받아 하나님의 자녀가 되는 복음을 전하기 위하여 스스로 모든 사람들의 종이 되었다고 증거하고 있는 것이다. 또한 그가 그렇게 하는 것은 마치 경기장에서 달리는 선수와 같이 상을 받기 위함이며, 그가 썩지 않는 면류관을 받기 위함이라고 증거하고 있다. 그는 또한 이 상을 얻기 위하여 자신의 몸을 억제하여 복종하게 노력하면서 그렇게 하는 것은 다른 사람들에게 복을을 전파하고 자신이 도중에 쓰러져서 상을 잃을 것을 염려한다고 말하고 있는 것이다.

      그러나 그가 예수 그리스도를 만나 회개하고 예수 그리스도를 구세주로 믿어 영접하기 전의 삶은 어떠했는가? 그는 자신이 유대인으로서 하나님이 선택한 민족으로서 율법을 받은 하나님의 선민이기에 모든 민족들에 대하여 자존심이 강한 자였으며, 자신의 의가 율법을 통하여 온전케 되기를 바라면서 종교 행위에 열성을 가지며 그것이 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 줄로 믿었던 사람이었다. 그러기에, 자기보다 못하고 무지한 사람들이 예수 그리스도를 믿어 하나님의 의를 받아 은혜로 값없이 영원한 생명을 얻었다고 하는 사람들을 증오하면서 예수라는 사람을 이단의 괴수로 믿고 그를 믿는 사람들을 무차별 체포하여 감옥에 던져넣는 일을 하던 사람이었다. 다시 말해서 모든 그리스도인들을 자신의 종처럼 잡아 넣고 죽이는 일이 하나님을 섬기는 길로 생각하였던 것이다.

       그런데 그가 예수 그리스도를 만난 후에 그분이 하나님이시며 메시야이심을 알고 난 후에는 그분을 믿고 도리어 모든 사람들에게 스스로 종이 되어 모든 사람들을 그리스도께로 인도하려는 정 반대의 삶을 살게 된 것이다. 그가 로마에 있는 사람들에게 편지할 때, 그가 “헬라인들이나 야만인들이나 지혜잇는 자들이나 어리석은 자들에게나 내가 빚진 자로다. 그러므로 나로서는 로마에 있는 너희에게도 복음을 전할 준비가 되어 있노라.” (롬 1:14, 15)고 말한 것이다. 그는 또한 예수 그리스도를 믿는 믿음에 대하여 히브리인들에게 편지했다: “믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘시게 할 수 없나니, 하나님께 나아가는 자는 그분이 존재하시는 것과 그분이 자기를 열심히 찾는 자들에게 보상하시는 분이심을 마땅히 믿어야 하느니라.”(히 11:6)

       그리스도를 믿는 사람들을 모두 죽이려고 계획하면서 열심을 내어 그 일을 하던 바울 되기 전 시울이 사람들을 죽이던 자가 오히려 그들의 종이 되어 그들 역시 예수 그리스도를 믿어 구원을 받게 하는 복음 사역에 목숨을 바치게 되었는가? 그러기에 그를 이해하지 못한 사람들은 그를 가리켜 미친 사람 취급을 한 것이 당연한 일이다. 그의 삶이 어떻게 180도 바뀐 사람이 되었을가?  한 마디로 말한다면 그가 예수 그리스도를 만나 그분이 누구신지 알았다는 것이다. 그가 골로새에 있는 성도들에게 편지할 때, “그는 보이지 않는 하나님의 형상이시며 모든 피조물의 첫태생이시니 이는 만물이 그에 의하여 창조되되 하늘에 있는 것들과 땅에 있는 것들과  보이는 것들과 보이지 않는 것들과 보좌들이나 주권들이나 정사들이나 권세들이나 만물이 그에 의하여 또 그를 위하여 창조되었기 때문이라. 그는 만물 이전에 계시고 또 만물은 그로 말미암아 존속하느니라.”(골 1:15-17)고 엄청난 증거를 했다.

      그렇다면, 그가 이 사실을 어떻게 알았는가? 그가 고린도교회 성도들에게 편지할 때에 그의 믿음이 인간의 지혜에 있지 않고 하나님의 능력에 있다고 증거하면서, 뿐만아니라 이 세상 지혜로도 안되며, 이 세상 통치자들의 지혜로도 안되며 오직 하나님의 지혜로만 예수 그리스도가 창조주 하나님이심을 알 수 있으며 하나님께서는 예수 그리스도를 믿는 사람들에게 그분의 성령을 주셔서 모든 것, 심지어 하나님의 깊은 것들까지도 통찰하신다고 증거했다. 또한 그는 이 세상에 태어나는 모든 사람들이 받는 세상의 영으로는 하나님이신 예수 그리스도를 알 수 없으며 오직 하나님께로부터 온 성령만이 모든 것을 가르치실 수 있다고 증거했다. 그러므로 하나님의 영을 받지 못한 자연인은 하나님의 영의 일을 받아들이지 아니하나니 영적인 일은 영적으로 비교하여 말한다고 중거했다. 그러므로 그는 성령으로 가듭난 이후부터는 이 세상의 모든 지식을 모두 배설물처럼 버리고 “오직 예수 그리스도와 그의 심자가에 못박히신 것”만을 알기로 작정하고 믿는 모든 사람들에게 성령을 통하여 다시 태어나게 하여 영원한 생명을 받게 하는 일만이 그의 평생동안 해야할 일이 되었던 것이다. 그가 거듭나기 전에는 이 세상 통치자인 마귀가 준 영을 받아 예수 그리스도를 박해하고 그를 믿는 자들을 박해하고 죽이는 것을 그의 사명으로 여기며 살았지만 예수 그리스도의 영을 받아 거듭난 후에는 모든 사람들을 그리스도께로 인도하기 위하여 믿는 모든 사람들에게 구원의 능력이 되는 그리스도의 복음을 부끄러워하지 않고 죽는 순간까지 그 복음을 전하다가 면류관을 받은 것이다.

       당신은 무엇을 얻으려고 이 세상에 아직도 살고 있는가? 사도 바울과 같은 생각이 없다면 당신은 틀림없이 자연인이다. 자연인은 성령이 없기 때문에 육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 생의 자랑을 따라가고 있기 마련이다. 이 세 가지는 세상 신으로서 잠시 동안 이 세상을 통치하고 있는 마귀로부터 온 영이 주는 것들이기 때문이다. 사도 요한은 이 사실에 대해 확실하게 증거햇다 “세상에 있는 모든 것이 육 신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 생의 자랑이요, 아버지께 속한 것이 아니라 세상에 속한 것이기 때문이라. 세상도, 세상의 정욕도 사라지지만 하나님의 뜻을 행하는 자는 영원히 거히느니라.”(요일 2:16,17)

     그렇다면, 하나님의 뜻이 무엇인가? 사도 바울은 이에 대하여 영적인 아들 디모데에게 편지했다: “하나님께서는 모든 사람이 구원을 받고 진리의 지식에 이르기를 원하시느니라.”(딤전 2:4) 그렇다! 하나님의 영을 받아 성령으로 거듭나서 하나님의 왕국에 들어간 사람은 더 이상 이 세상 사람이 아니기에 이 세상의 정욕이나 자랑과는 관게가 없으며 다만 하나님의 왕국에서 자랑하는 일에만 관심을 가질 수밖에 없는 것이다. 그러므로 성령으로 다시 태어나서 하나님의 왕국에서 새 피조물이 된 사람은 하나님의 뜻을 행하게 되는 것이다. 그러므로 스스로 모든 사람들의 종이 되어 어떻게 하든지 한 사람이라도 세상 나라들로부터 하나님의 왕국으로 인도하기만을 바라며 그리스도의 복음을 전하는 삶이 되는 것이다. 그러므로 사도 바을은 세상 사람들처럼 허공을 치는 삶을 살지 않고 이 한 가지 사역(ministry)을 위하여 온 마음과 몸을 다 바쳐서 살면서 끝까지 하나님이 기뻐하시는 믿음을 지켜 면류관을 빼앗기지 않기 위하여 자신의 몸을 쳐서 복종시켰던 것이다. 마침내 그가 이 세상을 떠나기 직전에 자신의 영적인 아들 디모데에게 영광스러운 유언을 남기고 기쁨으로 순교의 제물이 되었다: “내가 선한 싸움을 싸우고 달려갈 길을 마치고 믿음을 지켰으니 이후로는 나를 위하여 의의 면류관이 에비되어 있어 의로운 재판관이신 주께서 그 날에 그것을 내게 주실 것이며 또 나뿐만 아니라 그의 나타나심을 사모하는 모든 사람들에게도 주실 것이라.”(딤후 4:7, 8) 아맨! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 48:1-14

Main scripture: 1Corinthians 9:19-27

Subject: What are you going to gain from this world?

       In the main passage, Apostle Paul testifies of the purpose of his life. Even though he is free from all men, he made himself servant unto all men so that he might gain the more people such as the Jews, they that are under the law as well as without the law, and the weak. He wanted to save some through winning to Christ.

       In other word, he became the servant unto all men to preach the gospel of Christ that is to give salvation unto all men that believe in all their heart (Act 8:37), Christ died for their sins according to the scriptures, and buried, and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. He wanted all men to believe on Christ, and receive the remission of sins, and to be the children of God through the Holy Ghost. And his life dedicated unto all men is to receive the reward of the incorruptible crown from the Lord as an athlete running in stadium.  He also kept under his body, and brought it into subjection; lest that by any means, when he preached to others, he himself should be a castaway.

       What about his life before he met with Jesus Christ, and repented to receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour by faith? He was a man of strong confidence as the Jew chosen by God ignoring all other nations of people; and he tried to be perfect through the law with special passion for ritual activity. He thought that it was the way to please God. Therefore, he hated Christians that preach the gospel of free gift through the righteousness in Jesus Christ; and he arrested anyone that is the believer of Christ Jesus believing Jesus as a head of cult. In other word, he thought that he was serving God through arresting and killing Christians.

       But after he met with Jesus Christ to know him as God and Messiah, he rather became himself the servant unto all men to lead them to Christ. His life was changed completely 180 degree. He wrote a letter to the Romans saying, “I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.”9Rom. 1:14, 15)

He also wrote unto Hebrews saying, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”(Heb. 11:6)

       What is it that changed the life of Paul for him to dedicate unto the ministry of the gospel of Christ? He used to plan to kill all the Christians with all his heart. He seemed to be a crazy man unto the eyes that couldn’t understand him. What is the momentum that changed his life 180 degree? It is that he met with Jesus Christ and became to know who he is. He testified of Jesus Christ unto the Colossians saying, “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”(Col. 1:15-17)

          How he understood this truth? He testified unto the Corinthians saying, his faith is not in the wisdom of man, but the power of God. It is only possible to know that Jesus Christ is God the Creator, neither through the wisdom of this world nor one of the princes of this world, but through the wisdom of God. God gives his Spirit unto them that believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as the Creator so that they could search all things, the deep things of God. No one can see Jesus Christ through the spirit of the world that is given unto all men from their birth, but only the Spirit from God can teach all things. Therefore the natural man that not received the Spirit of God cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are spiritually discerned. He forsake all the knowledge of the world as dung; and he determined not to know anything, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified so that he made new goal of his life to preach the gospel unto all men so that they might receive the eternal life through the Holt Ghost. Before he was born of the Spirit of God, he persecuted Jesus Christ, and persecuted Christians unto death through the spirit of the world that was from the Devil, the prince of the world. After his conversion unto Jesus Christ, he was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, but to preach the gospel to win the souls unto Christ unto his death for the crown of righteousness.

       Why are you still living in the word, and what do you want to gain from the world? If you don’t have the same mind as Apostle Paul, you must be a natural man. If you are natural man, you must have been following the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, for you don’t have the Spirit of God. Such kinds of lust are from the spirit of the devil, the prince of the world.  Apostle John testified of this saying, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”(1John 2:16, 17)

          Then, what is the will of God? Apostle Paul wrote unto Timothy, his spiritual son saying, “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”(Tim. 2; 4)

Yea! Whosoever entered into the kingdom of God through the regeneration of the Spirit of God is no more belong to the world; therefore they are no more interested in such kinds of the lust. Therefore they are willing to do the will of God as the new creatures in the kingdom of God. They are also willing to be the servants unto all men to preach the gospel to lead all men to the kingdom of God from the world. Therefore Apostle Paul didn’t beat the air in vain as the worldly men, and he kept under his body, and brought it into subjections to keep his faith until he receive the crown. Finally, he left a glorious word right before he left this world unto Timothy, his spiritual son saying,    ^“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”(2Tim. 4:7, 8) Amen! Hallelujah!
