금주의 묵상: 시편 24:1-10

본문: 데살로니가전서 4:1-8

제목: 성경이 말씀하시는 거룩함의 참된 의미

        하나님께서는 율법 아래 있었던 이스라엘 백성들에게 "나는 주 너희 하나님이라. 그러므로 너희는 스스로 성결케 하여 거룩하게 될지니라. 이는 내가 거룩함이라…."(레 11:44)고 명령하셨다. 사실 그 당시 율법 아래에서 하나님께서 그들에게 거룩하라고 명령하신 것은 그들의 육체를 정결하게 지키라는 말씀이었다.

       그러나 그들이 아무리 거룩하라는 율법을 지키려고 노력했지만 그들은 결국 거룩함에 이르지 못하고 하나님을 떠나 우상들을 섬기고 이방나라들과 음행하게 되었던 것이다. 이때 하나님께서는 선지자 예레미야를 통하여 어떤 사람도 자신의 노력으로 거룩하게 되지 못함에 대하여 말씀하셨다: "유다의 죄는 철필과 금강석 끝으로 기록되었고, 그들의 마음판과 너희의 제단들의 뿔들에 새겨졌으며…마음은 만물보다 거짓되고 심히 악하니 누가 그것을 알 수 있으리요? 나 주는 마음을 살피고 나는 속을 시험하여 그 사람의 행위와 행실의 결과대로 각 사람에게 주노라."(렘 17:1,9,10)

       그렇다! 하나님께 대한 사람의 죄는 그냥 책에 쓰여진 정도가 아니라 철필과 금강석 끝으로 기록된 것같이 어느누구도 그것들을 지울 수없다는 말씀인 것이다. 그것들이 지워져야만 죄들이 없어지게 되어 거룩함에 이를 수 있겠지만 결코 그렇지 못하다는 거룩하신 하나님의 말씀인 것이다. 하나님이 원하시는 거룩함이란 하나님께서 죄가 없으신 것처럼 완전히 죄가 제거되어야만 하는 바 과연 그 누가 자신이 거룩하다고 말할 수 있겠는가? 사도 베드로도 예수 그리스도의 나타나심, 즉 휴거를 기다리고 있는 성도들을 향하여 거룩함에 대하여 증거했다: "순종하던 자녀들로서, 이전에 무지하던 때의 정욕에 너희 자신을 맞추지 말고 오히려 너희를 부르신 그분께서 거룩하신 것처럼 너희도 모든 행실에 거룩하라. 이는 기록되기를, '내가 거룩하니, 너희도 거룩하라.'고 하시기 때문이니라."(벧전 1:14-16)

       거룩하라는 율법을 주셨던 하나님께서 독생자의 모습으로 육신으로 나타나셨을 때 그분께 나아와서 위선을 떠는 무리들을 만나셨다. 그들이 바로 바리새인, 사두개인 그리고 서기관들 같은 종교인들이었다. 그들은 율법을 가르치는 자들로서 자신들도 지키지 못하는 율법으로 사람들을 옭아매면서 그들 위에 군림하던 자들이었다. 선지자 예레미야를 통하여 말씀하신 하나님께서 그들 앞에 서 계셨지만 그들은 자신들의 마음 속에 철필과 금강석 끝으로 어떤 죄악들이 새겨져 있었는지 알 수 없었다. 주님의 제자들이 손을 씻지 않고 음식을 먹는 것을 보고 더럽다고 힐난하는 말을 들으시고 그들에게 말씀하셨다: "사람 몸 밖에서 그 안으로 들어가는 것은 아무 것도 그 사람을 더럽힐 수 없으나, 사람 안에서 밖으로 나오는 것들은 그 사람을 더럽히느니라. 누구나 들을 귀 있는 자들은 들을지어다."(막 7:15,16) 그때 바리새인과 서기관들은 그 말씀이 무슨 뜻인지 알 수 없었기에 질문도 할 수도 없었던 것이다. 질문이 없는 학생은 선생님의 말을 아예 듣지 않는 학생인 것처럼 그들이 그랬다.

       나중에 제자들이 그 비유에 대하여 주님께 질문했을 때 주님께서 그들에게만 말씀하셨다: "너희도 그렇게 깨닫지 못하겠느냐? 무엇이나 밖에서 사람 안으로 들어가는 것은 그 사람을 더럽힐 수 없다는 것을 알지 못하겠느냐? 이는 그것이 사람의 마음 속으로 들어가는 것이 아니기 때문이라. 배로 들어가서 뒤로 나오는 모든 음식은 깨끗하지 아니하냐? 사람에게서 나오는 것이 그 사람을 더럽히느니라. 이는 속에서, 즉 사람들의 마음에서 나오는 것이 그 사람을 더럽히느니라. 이는 속에서, 즉 사람들의 마음에서 나오는 것은 악한 생각과 간음과 음행과 살인과 도둑질과 탐욕과 악의와 사기와 방탕과 악한 눈과 하나님을 모독함과 교만과 어리석음이기 때문이니, 이런 모든 악한 것은 속에서 나와, 그 사람을 더럽히느니라."(막 7:18-23)

        이미 선지자 예레미야를 통하여 말씀하신 것을 다시 한 번 말씀하신 것으로서 사람은 그 어떤 누구도 거룩해질 수 없다는 말씀인 것이다. 다시 말해서 그 어느누구도 하나님의 율법을 지킬 수 없으며 설사 지킬 수 있다 해도 마음이 아닌 육체만을 정결케 하여 거룩하게 하는  것에 그친다는 말씀인 것이다 (히 9:13).

       사도 바울은 이 사실을 깨닫고 "이는 모든 사람이 죄를 지었으므로 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하다가 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 구속을 통하여 그의 은혜로 값없이 의롭게 되었음이라."(롬 3:23, 24)라고 증거했다. 이 세상에 태어난 모든 사람들은 죄인들이기에 영광스러운 하나님의 거룩함에 이를 수 없다는 진리를 선포한 것으며 오직 사람이 거룩하게 되는 길은 그리스도 예수께서 흘리신 구속의 피를 믿음으로써만 가능함을 선포한 것이다. 또한 그는 로마에 있는 성도들에게 율법에 대하여  "율법에 의하지 아니하고서는 내가 죄를 알지 못하였으니 곧 율법이 '너는 탐내지 말지니라.' 하지 아니하였더라면 내가 정욕을 알지 못하였으리라."(롬 7:7) 증거했다. 

     오늘 본문 가운데 사도 바울은 데살로니가 교회 성도들에게 거룩함에 대하여 말하는 가운데 거룩한 삶을 경시하는 사람들을 향하여 "그러므로 경시하는 자는 사람을 경시하는 것이 아니라 우리에게 그의 거룩한 영을 주신 하나님을 경시하는 것이라."(살전 4:8)고 증거했다. 다시 말해서 하나님의 거룩한 영이신 성령을 받고 거듭나서 하나님의 자녀가 되어 거룩하게 된 자들은 이미 영과 혼이 거룩하게 되었으니 이제는 몸도 거룩한 삶을 살아야 할 것을 말씀한 것이다. 또한 사도 바울은 구원받은 히브리인들을 향하여 거룩함에 대하여 증거할 때에 "그 뜻에 따라 모든 사람을 위하여 한 번 예수 그리스도의 몸을 드리심으로 우리가 거룩하게 된 것이라. 제사장마다 매일 서서 섬기며, 똑같은 제사를 자주 드리지만 이것으로써는 결코 죄들을 제거할 수 없으나 이분은 한 번의 속죄제를 영원히 드린 후 하나님의 오른 편에 앉으셔서 그후로는 그의 원수들을 자기 발판으로 삼으실 때까지 기다리시느니라. 이는 그가 한 번의 제사로써 거룩하게 된 자들을 영원히 온전케 하셨기 때문이라."(히 10:10-14)

        회개하고 주 예수 그리스도께서 흘리신 피를 통한 영원한 속죄를 믿는 사람들의 영이 거듭남으로써 새롭게 되고 혼은 이미 구원을 받아서 이미 거룩하게 된 것이다. 그러므로 이제부터는 몸을 하나님께서 기뻐하시는 산 제물로 드려서 의의 병기로 드려 몸으로 하나님께 영광을 돌려야 하는 거룩함에 다시 한 번 이르러야 하는 것이다. 사도 바울은 로마에 있는 성도들에게 "이와 같이 너희도 너희 자신을 정녕 죄에게는 죽은 자요, 예수 그리스도 우리 주로 말미암아 하나님께는 산 자로 여기라. 그러므로 너희는 죄가 너희 죽을 몸 안에서 군림하지 못하게 하여 몸의 정욕 가운데서 죄에게 순종하지 말고 또 너희 지체를 불의의 병기로 죄에게 내어주지 말고 다만 너희 자신을 죽은 자들로부터 살아난 자들처럼 하나님께 드리며 너희 지체를 의의 병기로 하나님께 드리라. 죄가 너희를 주관하지 못하리니 이는 너희가 율법 아래 있지 아니하고 은혜 아래 있기 때문이라."(롬 6:11-14)라고 증거했던 것이다.  또한 성령을 받아 이미 거룩하게 된 자들이 몸으로 거룩한 삶을 살 수 있음에 대하여 "그러므로 이제 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 자들에게는 결코 정죄함이 없나니, 그들은 육신을 따라 행하지 아니하고 성령을 따라 행하느니라. 이는 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 생명의 성령의 법이 죄와 사망의 법에서 나를 해방시켰기 때문이라."(롬 8:1,2)고 증거했다.

       그렇다! 하나님이신 그리스도 예수께서 하나님의 피를 흘리시어 그 피를 믿어 모든 죄들이 이미 제거되어 거룩하게 된 자들을 향하여 하나님께서 원하시는 것은 몸까지도 거룩함에 이르라는 것이며 성령으로 거듭난 사람들은 이미 죄와 사망의 법으로부터 나와 생명의 성령의 법 안에 살기 때문에 더 이상 죄의 종이 아니고 의의 종이 된 것이다. 그러기에 원하기만 하면 성령의 능력을 통하여 거룩한 삶을 살 수 있는 것이다.  그러므로 사도 바울은 본문에서 데살로니가 교회 성도들에게 특히 몸의 음행을 삼가라고 권면하는 것이다. 모든 죄들은 몸 밖에 있지만 음행 만큼은 몸 안에 있기 때문이다. 데살로니가 교회 성도들은 복음전파에 힘쓰면서 주님을 간절히 기다리던 자들이었기에 휴거에 대한 메세제도 그들에게 주신 것이다(살전 4:16-18). 그는 마지막으로 그들에게 다시 한 번 권면했다: "바로 그 화평의 하나님께서 너희를 온전히 거룩하게 하시고 너희의 온 영과 혼과 몸이 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 오실 때까지 책망할 것이 없게 보존되기를 기도하노라. 너희를 부르시는 분은 신실하시니 그가 또한 이루시리라."(살전 5:23,24) 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 24:1-10

Subject: True meaning of "Holiness" in the word of God

      God commanded unto the people of Israel saying, "For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy:"(Lev. 11:44) At that time, God actually commanded them to be sanctified their flesh under the law of God.

       However they had tried to keep the law of sanctification, they could not be unto sanctification, rather they ended up with worshipping idols being away fro the LORD God, and they committed adultery with the kingdoms of the Gentiles. Finally, God spoke unto them, no one could be sanctified for their own efforts at all; and spoke unto them through prophet Jeremiah:

"The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars;…. 9The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings."(Jer. 17:1,9,10)

       Yea! The sin of man before God is not matter of being written in a book, but is written with pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond so that no one can erase it. Only when the sins of man are erased, man can be sanctified ; there is no other way but the sins are taken away. The holiness means all sins to be taken away as God is true of no sin; then who can dare say "I am holy." before God? Apostle Peter testified of the holiness unto the saints who were waiting for the appearance of Christ that is the day of Rapture:

"As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."(1Pet. 14-16)

        God who gave the law became a man in the form of only begotten Son of God; he met with the hypocrites. They were Pharisees, Sadducees, and Scribes. They taught the law of God to the Jew; and they gave the yoke of the law that even they couldn't keep to rule over them. Even though Jesus Christ that spoke through prophet Jeremiah stood before them, they couldn't understand that their sins are engraved with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond. Upon hearing from them criticizing his disciples because they didn't wash before they ate food; and Jesus spoke unto them:

"There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear."(Mark 7:15,16)

 But the hypocrites couldn't understand what Jesus was talking about; so they couldn't make any question at all as the student that never listen to the teacher at school.

         Later his disciples questioned unto him of the parable; and Jesus said unto them:

"Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man."(7:18-23)

       Actually, Jesus repeated unto them that he had already spoke through prophet Jeremiah meaning that no one can be holy at all. In other word, no one can keep the law of God at all. Even though someone could keep the law of God, he is to be ended up with sanctifying his flesh (Heb. 9:13)

       Apostle Paul understood this truth, and testified:

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus."(Rom. 3:23,24)

He declared a truth that all men born sinners in the world so that no one could reach unto the holiness of God at all; and the only way to be holy is only possible through believing on the blood of redemption shed by Jesus Christ. He testified of the law of God unto the saints in Rome saying,

"What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet."(Rom. 7:7)

       In the main passage, Apostle Paul testified of holiness toward the saints that despise the holiness of God saying, "He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit."(1Thes. 4:8)

In other word, the children of God that received the Holy Ghost through new birth to be holy have already sanctified their spirit and soul; therefore they are supposed to live in holiness presenting their body unto God. Apostle Paul testified unto the Hebrews of the holiness saying,

 "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified."(Heb. 10:10-14)

       They that repented and believed on the eternal redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ are already renewed through the washing of regeneration of their spirit to have salvation of their soul unto the holiness already. Therefore, henceforth they have to present their body as  living sacrifice as the instrument of righteousness  that please God to glorify the Lord with their body again unto the holiness. Apostle Paul testified unto the saints in Rome saying,

 "Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."(Rom. 6:11-14)

And he continued to testified that they that are sanctified through the Holy Ghost could live in holiness saying,

 "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."(Rom. 8:1,2)

       Yea! Jesus Christ, the great God shed his blood to take away the sin of the world to make holy the believers wants them to sanctify their body also. They that are born of the Spirit are already dwell in the law of the Spirit of life delivered from the law of sin and death to be the servant of righteousness, no more of sin. Therefore, if they want to live in holiness, they can through the power of the Holy Ghost. Therefore Apostle Paul encourages the saints of Thessalonians to abstain form fornication. All other sins are without body, but fornication is within body.  The saints of Thessalonians were waiting for the day of Christ working hard for evangelism; this is the reason why Apostle Paul gave them the message of Rapture (1Thes. 4:16-18). He encouraged them once again saying,

"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it."(1Thes. 5:23,24) Amen! Hallelujah!
