금주의 묵상: 시편

본문: 창세기 18: 23-33

제목: 아브라함처럼 사는가? 아니면 롯처럼 사는가?

       하나님께서 아브라함을 부르셔서 고향과 친족과 아비의 집을 떠나 하나님께서 인도하실 땅으로 가라고 하셨습니다. 그러나 그는 여전히 고행 땅을 떠나지 못하다가 75세가 되서야 떠났습니다. 그러나 그때에도 조카 롯과 함께 떠났습니다. 아브라함은 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 조금 지체했을지라도 떠났지만, 롯은 단지 삼촌의 말을 듣고 떠났던 것입니다. 아브라함은 롯의 아버지가 일찍 세상을 떠나 조카 롯을 측은하게 여기는 마음으로 그를 데리고 떠났던 것입니다. 여러가지 일들을 겪으면서 그들의 소유가 많아 함께 거하는 것을 수용할 수 없게 되었습니다. 마침내 아브라함은 조카 롯을 독립시키기로 결심하고 롯에게 말했습니다: “네 앞에 온 땅이 있지 아니하냐? 내가 부탁하건대, 나에게서 갈라져 나가라. 네가 왼쪽으로 가면 나는 오른쪽으로 갈 것이요, 또 네가 오른쪽으로 가면 나는 왼쪽으로 가리라.”(창 13:9)

      롯이 눈을 들어 요단의 온 평지를 바라보았을 때 어느곳이나 물이 넉넉했습니다. 그 당시 그곳은 소돔과 고모라를 멸망시키 전이었으므로 주의 동산 같고 이집트 땅 같았습니다. 그리하여 롯은 요단의 동편 평지를 택하고 롯은 동쪽으로 옯겨갔습니다. 그러나 아브라함은 카나안 땅에 거하였고 롯은 평지에 있는 성읍들에 거하며 소돔을 향하여 장막을 쳤습니다. 그 당시 소돔인들은 사악하였고 주 앞에 극심한 죄인들이었다고 성경은 말씀하고 있습니다(창 13:8-13).

      본문에 나타난 두 사람을 보면서 하나님 앞에 한 사람은 영적인 사람으로 나타나고 있으며, 또 다른 한 사람은 육신적인 사람으로 비쳐지고 있습니다. 다시 말해서 한 사람은 비록 카나안 땅이 산지여서 살기에 불편하였지만 하나님의 말씀에 순종하기 위하여 그곳에 장막을 쳤지만, 또 한 사람은 하나님의 음성을 듣지 못하고 사람을 의지하면서 장소를 옮기는 것도 자신의 눈으로 보는대로 따라갔던 것입니다.

      아브라함은 하나님께서 그와 그의 씨에게 주신 약속의 땅인 카나안 땅에 거하였지만, 롯은 얼마 있으면 심판받을 소돔 땅으로 옮겨갔던 것입니다. 아브라함은 사는 곳이 불편했지만 하나님의 말씀을 따라 거처를 정했지만 롯은 육신의 정욕과 안목의 정욕과 생의 자랑을 따라 살 곳을 정했던 것입니다. 소돔 사람들이 롯에게 그가 그들의 재판관이 되려한다고 달려든 것을 볼 때(창 19:9) 롯은 소돔에서 사람들이 알아보는 위치에 있었던 것을 알 수 있습니다. 롯이 떠나고 아브라함이 홀로 남았을 때 마침내 하나님께서 그에게 그가 머물로 있는 카나안 땅을 영원히 그와 그의 씨에게 줄 것이라는 약속의 말씀을 주셨습니다. 전에 말씀하신 대로 아브라함이 모든 친족과도 떠나 홀로 되어 준비가 되었을 때 비로소 약속의 말씀을 주신 것입니다(창 13:14-18).

      본문을 통하여 우리는 두 종류의 그리스도인의 영적인 모습을 볼 수 있습니다. 한 사람은 하나님의 말씀을 통하여 영적으로 앞으로 일어날 모든 일들을 알고 성령의 인도함을 받는 영적인 그리스도인이며, 또 다른 한 사람은 구원을 받았을지라도 하나님의 말씀에는 관심이 없고 육신적인 감각만 가지고 세상을 살아나가는 육신적인 그리스도인의 모습을 볼 수 있는 것입니다.

        본문에서는 소돔을 심판하시기 위하여 두 천사와 함께 사람의 모습으로 아브라함을 찾아오신 주님께 드리는 말씀을 통해서 우리는 성숙한 믿음을 소유한 영적인 그리스도인과 조만간 심판 받을 세상에서 육신을 따라 살면서 아무것도 모르는 영적인 소경같은 그리스도인의 모습을 볼 수 있는 것입니다.

      아브라함은 잠시 후면 불로 심판 받게 될 소돔을 마라보면서 그곳에 살고 있는 롯을 기억하면서 그를 심판으로부터 구해내기 위하여 안타까운 마음으로 주님께 아뢰는 모습을 봅니다. “주께서 악인들과 함께 의인들도 멸하려 하시나이까?” “혹시 그 성읍에 의인 오십 명이 있다면…사십오 명의 의인이 있다면…사십명의 의인이 있다면…삽십명의 의인을 찾으신다면…이십 명을 찾으신다면…한 번만 더 말씀드리리이다. 열 명의 의인을 찾으신다면….어찌하시겠나이까?”라고 묻는 아브라함에게 “내가 열 명의 의인을 위하여 멸하지 아니하리라.”고 말씀하셨습니다. 아브라함은 더 이상 롯을 위하여 중보할 수 없었습니다. 아브라함의 깊은 의도를 아시는 주님께서는 그의 기도를 들으시고 두 천사를 롯에게 보내셔서 롯을 구원하셨습니다. 하나님께서 평지의 성읍들을 멸하실 때에 하나님께서 아브라함을 기억하시고, 롯이 거하는 성읍들을 무너뜨리실 때 무너뜨리는 와중에서 롯을 내보내셨다고 성경은 말씀하고 있습니다(창 19:29).

      아브라함을 찾아오셨던 주님께서 육신을 입으시고 예수라는 이름으로 오셨을 때 “인자가 올 때에 세상에서 믿음을 찾아볼 수 있겠느냐?”(눅 18:8)라고 말씀하신 것을 볼 때 거듭난 그리스도인들이 하늘로 들려올라가고 난 후 대 환란 끝에 인자의 모습으로 오셔서 세상을 심판하시기 위하여 다시 오실 때, 이 세상 역시 소돔과 고모라 같은 사악한 세상이 될 것을 미리 알 수 있습니다.

      오늘날도 영적인 그리스도인들은 끊임없이 구원받지 못한 사람들뿐만 아니라 육신적인 그리스도인들을 위하여 중보기도해야 하며 특히 교회 안에서 롯같은 그리스도인들을 위하여 중보기도하면 하나님께서 아즈라함에게 응답하신 것처럼 반드시 응답하신다는 사실을 알 아야 하는 것입니다.

        사도 베드로는 그가 세상을 떠나기 전에 성도들을 향하여 경고의 메세지를 남겼습니다: “소돔과 고모라 성읍들을 무너뜨리심으로 정죄하여 재가 되게 하셔서 후세에 경건치 않게 살 자들을 위하여 본으로 삼으셨다.”(벧후 2:6)고 증거하고 있습니다. 뿐만 아니라 그는 특별히 롯에 대하여도 증거했습니다: “또 사악한 자들의 음란한 행실로 인하여 고통당하는 의로운 롯을 건져내셨으니 이는 그 의인이 그들 가운데서 살면서 날마다 그들의 불법적인 행동을 보고 들음으로써 그의 의로운 혼이 고통을 당하기 때문이니라.”(벧후 2:7,8)고 증거했습니다.

        그렇습니다. 주 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 혼이 구원받은 사람은 하나님께서 의로운 자라고 말씀하시는 것입니다. 롯이 받은 구원은 지금 은혜 시대에 받은 구원과는 다르지만.성경은, 아브라함이나 롯이나 모두 의인으로 말씀하시는 것을 볼 때 아브라함같이 성령으로 인도함을 받는 영적인 그리스도인이나 육신적인 그리스도인이나 그들이 주 예수 그리스도를 믿었다는 한 가지 이유 때문에 하나님께서는 그들의 혼을 의롭다 칭하시는 것입니다(벧전 1:9).

      그러나 소돔과 고모라처럼 심판이 임박한 세상에 살면서, 특히 살기좋은 도성에 살고 있는 우리들은 롯처럼 육신적인 그리스도인이 되지 않기 위하여 더 기도하고 말씀을 묵상하는 삶을 살지 않으면 자신도 모르는 사이에 롯처럼 될 수 있다는 사실을 묵과해서는 안되는 것입니다. 그러므로 우리는 아브라함처럼 하나님의 말씀 안에사 성령의 인도함을 받는 삶을 살아야 하는 것입니다. 아브라함같은영적인 사람은 항상 평안 가운데 살다가 주님을 만나게 될 것이나, 롯처럼 육신적인 그리스도인은 롯과 같이 혼의 고통 속에서 살다가 어느날 갑자기 그 날이 오게 될 때 불 가운데서 구원받은 사람처럼 아무런 유업도 받지 못하게 되는 것입니다.

        사도 바울은 오늘을 살고 있는 하나님의 자녀들에게 권면했습니다: “무엇이든지 전에 기록된 것은 우리의 교훈을 위하여 기록된 것이니 이는 성경이 주는 인내와 위로로써 소망을 지니게 하려 함이니라.”(롬 15:4) 또한 그는 고린도교회 사람들에게 유업을 받지 못하게 될 그리스도인들을 향하여 “만일 어떤 사람이 일한 것이 불타 버리면 그는 손해를 당하리라. 그러나 그 자신은 구원을 받게 되지만 불에서인 것처럼 그렇게 되리라.”(고전 3:15)고 증거했습니다. 오늘 본문을 통하여 소돔이 불타 버렸을 때 간신히 몸만 빠져나온 롯은 오늘날 자신의 혼만 구원받고 하나님의 왕국에서 아무런 유업도 받지 못하는 그리스도인의 모습과 견줄 수 있을 것입니다.

      오늘날 우리들은 소돔같은 세상에 살고 있습니다. 그러나 비록 우리가 소돔처럼 사악한 도성에 살고 있지만 우리에게 주시는 하나님의 말씀은 우리 자신을 부인하고 자신의 십자가를 지면서 고난 가운데 그리스도의 은혜의 복음을 전하라는 것입니다. 하나님께서 소돔 사람들같은 이스라엘 백성들에게 소돔의 죄악에 대하여 말씀하셨습니다: “보라, 이것이 네 자매 소돔의 죄악이니 자만과 양식의 풍부함이라. 게으름의 풍성함이 그녀와 그녀의 딸들 안에 있고 그녀가 가남한 자와 궁핍한 자의 손에 기운을 돋우어 주지 아니하였도다. 또 그들은 교만하였고 내 앞에서 가증한 짓을 행하였기에 내가 잘 보고 그들을 제거하였느니라.”(겔 16:49,50)

아브라함처럼 하나님의 말씀 안에서 성령의 인도함을 받다가 그리스도의 날에 영광스런 면류관을 받으시는 모두가 되시기를 기원합니다. 아멘! 할렐루야!

Main scripture: Genesis 18:23-33

Subject: Are you living as Abraham? Or as Lot?

       The LORD God called Abram asking him to get out of his country, and form his kindred, and from his father’s house, unto a land that he will show him. For sometime being, he not departed his own country; at his age of seventy five, he finally departed out of Haran. But he departed with Lot, his nephew even that time. Even though Abraham delayed to depart from his country as well as his families, but he departed according to the word of God. But Lot only followed the word of his uncle, Abraham. Abraham had sympathy with Lot, for his father passed away leaving behind his young son, Lot; and he had to take him with him. Since he departed from his families he had passed through various temptation; and their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. Finally, Abraham decided to make Lot independent, and said to him: “Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.”(Gen. 13:9)

        And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like land of Egypt. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east; and they separated themselves one from the other. Abraham dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom. But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly (Gen. 13:8-13).

        Seeing two men through the main passage, one appears as a spiritual man; and the other seems to be a carnal man. In other word, one man, Abraham pitched tent in Canaan, even though the land is mountainous so that it was not comfortable to live, but he tried obey the word of the LORD God; the other one, Lot relied upon man not hearing the word of God, and he also followed the lust of eyes to find out the place to dwell in.

        Abraham dwelled in the promised land by God that is Canaan; but Lot moved to the land of Sodom that will be destroyed sooner or later. Abraham chose the life without comforting his flesh just to obey the word of God; but Lot followed the lust of the flesh, and lust of the eyes, and pride of his own life. Later one Sodomite rebuked Lot asking him to be a judge for them(Gen. 19:9); then Lot must have been well known by Sodomites. When Abraham was alone, after Lot departed him, the LORD God gave him a word of promise to give him and his seed shall inherit the land of Canaan forever where he dwelled. As the LORD God spoke unto him, he was prepared to receive the word of promise of God when he was separated from his own families (Gen. 13:14-18).

        In the main passage, we can see two kinds of Christian spiritually. One is spiritual Christian being led by the Spirit of God knowing all things to happen through the word of God; the other has not interested in the word of God even though his soul is saved by faith, but live as a carnal Christian only led by carnal sense.

        Through the word of Abraham spoken unto the LORD with two angels who visited him, we can discern spiritual Christian with matured faith from spiritually blinded Christian that is ignorant spiritually living following the lust of flesh.

        Looking forward the land of Sodom that will be destroyed by God, he remembered Lot, and he asked unto the LORD with sympathy with Lot: “With thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? If there be fifty righteous within the city?… if forty five?….If forty ones? …if thirty righteous? …if twenty righteous? only one time more, if just ten righteous?” Upon hearing from Abraham, the LORD said unto him, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.” Then, Abraham couldn’t continue to ask the LORD for Lot anymore. Knowing the intention of Abraham for Lot, God sent the two angels to Lot, and delivered him from Sodom later. When God destroyed the cities of plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwell (Gen. 19:29).

       The LORD God who visited Abraham appeared in flesh in the name of Jesus said, “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”(Luke 18:8)

We understand, this world shall be like Sodom and Gomorrah at the end of the Great Tribulation when Jesus return to the world to judge after born again Christians are translated to heaven.

        Even nowadays, spiritual Christians should to pray to intercede not only for unsaved ones, but also for carnal Christians like Lot in the church believing God answering our prayer all the time as he did for Abraham.

       Apostle Peter left a message of warning for the saints:

“And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;”(2Pet. 2:6)

He also testified of Lot specially:

“And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)”(2Pet. 2:7,8)

        Yea! They whose soul is saved is recognized as the righteous by God. The salvation that Lot received is different from our salvation that is received by grace through faith in the age of grace; but God recognized Abraham as well as Lot as righteous men. Whether he is spiritual Christian being led by the Spirit of God or carnal Christian, God justifies their souls because they believe o Jesus Christ (1Pet. 1:9).

        Dwelling in the world as Sodom and Gomorrah to be judged sooner or later, especially living in western cities, we have to pray more, and meditated the word of God with more passion not to be fallen as carnal Christian as Lot. Therefore we have to live being led by the Spirit of God as Abraham. Spiritual Christian as Abraham shall see the Lord Jesus living in peace; but carnal Christians as Lot shall live in suffering righteous soul. And carnal Christians shall not receive any inheritance in the kingdom of God in the day of Christ coming suddenly as man just saved in the midst of fire.

        Apostle Paul encouraged the children of God living nowadays:

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”(Rom. 15:4)

He also testified unto the saints in Corinthian church of the Christian that cannot receive the inheritance:“If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”(1Cor. 3:15) In the main passage, Lot only saved his body barely delivered from Sodom judged by fire; we can compare him with the Christian that is saved barely only soul without any inheritance in the kingdom of God.

       Nowadays, we are living in the world as Sodom. But even though we are living in the wicked city as Sodom, we are living here to follow the word of God speaking unto us to deny ourselves, and to up our cross, and to preach the gospel of grace of Christ. God spoke of the iniquities of Sodom unto the people of Israel as Sodomites: “Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.”(Ez. 16:49,50)

50And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.”

I pray for all of us to live being led by the Spirit of God in the word of God, and to receive the glorious crown in the day of Christ. Amen! Hallelujah!
