금주의 묵상: 시편 11:1-7

본문: 출애굽기 33:12-23

제목: 성령의 임재 가운데 누리는 혼의 쉼(REST of SOUL)

        수백만이나 되는 이스라엘 백성들을 가나안 땅으로 인도하고 있는 하나님의 종 모세가 하나님께 드린 기도에 대하여 하나님께서 즉시 응답하셨습니다. 모세는 하나님께 또 다시 간구의 기도를 드렸습니다. 자신이 하나님께 은혜를 입었으면, 주의 길을 보여주시어 자신이 주를 알게 하시고 주의 목전에서 은혜를 입게 해 달라고 간구하면서 자신이 인도하는 이스라엘 민족을 주의 백성으로 생각해 달라고 간청했습니다.

        그때 하나님께서 모세에게 “나의 임재가 너와 함께 가며 내가 너에게 쉼(Rest)을 주리라.”는 말씀으로 그에게 응답하셨습니다. 응답을 들은 모세는 다시 한 번 하나님께 말씀드렸습니다. “만일 주의 임재가 나와 함께 가지 않으면 우리를 여기에서 올려보내지 마소서.” 그는 계속해서 말씀드렸습니다. “나와 주의 백성이 주의 목전에서 은혜를 입은 것을 무엇으로 알리이까? 주께서 우리와 함께 가시는 것 아니니이까? 그것으로 우리, 즉 나와 주의 백성이 지면에 있는 모든 백성들로부터 구별되나이다.” 이때 하나님께서는 즉시 응답하셨습니다. “네가 말한 이 일도 내가 행하리니, 이는 네가 내 목전에서 은혜를 입었고 내가 지명하여 너를 앎이니라.”

        하나님께서 친히 말씀으로 응답하셨지만. 모세는 또 다시 한 번 간구했습니다. “내가 주께 간구하오니 주의 영광을 내게 보여 주소서.” 하나님께서는 다시 한 번 모세에게 확실하게 자신이 그와 함께 할 것을 약속하셨습니다. “내가 나의 모든 선함을 네 앞에 지나가게 할 것이며 내가 네 앞에 주의 이름을 선포하리라. 나는 은혜를 베풀 자에게 은혜를 베풀고 자비를 보일 자에게 자비를 보이리라.”

        그러나 하나님께서는 자신의 영광을 보여달라는 모세의 간구에 대하여, “네가 내 얼굴을 볼 수 없으니 이는 나를 보고서 살 자가 아무도 없음이라.”고 말씀하셨습니다. 그럼에도 주님께서는 모세의 마음을 아시고 그의 간구를 들어주셨습니다. “보라, 내 옆에 한 곳이 있으니 너는 한 바위 위에 설지니라. 내 영광이 지나갈 동안 내가 너를 그 바위 틈에 넣어서 내가 지나갈 동안 내 손으로 너를 덮으리니 내 손을 거두면 네가 내 뒷 부분을 볼 것이나 내 얼굴은 보지 못하리라.”고 말씀하셨습니다.

        하나님의 종 모세는 수백만의 이스라엘 백성들을 길도 없고 물도 없고 먹을 것도 없고 뱀과 전갈의 위험이 있는 거친 광야를 통과하여 가나안 땅까지 인도해야 하는 사명을 받은 자로서 하나님께 간절한 간구를 드릴 수 밖에 없었던 것입니다. 뿐만 아니라 하나님의 영광을 보지 않고서는 안심이 되지 않는 그의 마음을 아시는 주 하나님께서 그때까지는 사람의 마음 속에 들어있는 죄들 때문에 어느누구도 자신을 보고 살 수 없는 상황 가운데서도 그에게 특별한 은혜와 자비를 베풀어 주셨던 것입니다.

        그러나 하나님께서는 그들이 가나안 땅에 들어가기 직전에 그들이 가나안 땅에 들어가서살 때에 하나님의 말씀에 경청하고 모든 계명들을 지키면 복을 받을 것이나, 그렇지 못할 때에는 온갖 저주들을 받을 것이라고 말씀하시면서 “이 민족들 가운데서 네가 안일함을 얻지 못할 것이며 네 발바닥이 쉼을 얻지 못할 것이니, 주께서는 거기서 네게 떨리는 마음과 눈의 쇠약함과 심한 마음의 번민을 주실 것이요, 또 네 생명이 네 앞에 의심 속에 매달리리니, 네가 밤낮 두려워할 것이며, 네 생명의 보장을 전혀 얻지 못할 것이요, 네가 두려워하는 네 마음의 두려움과 네가 보는 네 눈의 목격함으로 인하여, 아침에는 네가 말하기를 ‘오, 저녁이었으면!’ 하고 저녁에는 네가 말하기를 ‘오, 아침이었으면!’ 하리라.”(신 28:65-67)는 경고의 말씀을 주셨습니다.

        이 땅에 태어난 사람들은 자라가면서 삶 속에서 진정한 쉼을 얻지 못하는 삶을 살면서도 그 이유를 모르는채 살아가고 있는 것을 봅니다. 수천 년 전에 살았던 욥은 “밤이면 내 뼈가 나를 찌르며 내 근육에 쉼이 없도다.”(욥 30:17)라고 고백했습니다. 이스라엘에서 큰 영화를 누렸던 솔로몬왕도 “현명한 사람이 어리석은 사람과 다투면, 그가 성내든지 웃든지 그 다툼에는쉼이 없느니라.”(잠 29:9)고 증거했습니다. 또한 하나님께서 예리미야 선지를 통해서 이스라엘 백성들이 쉼을 얻지 못하는 이유에 대하여 말씀하셨습니다. “‘너희는 길에서 서서 보고 옛 길, 그 선한 길이 어디 있는지 물어 그곳으로 걸어가라. 그리하면 너희가 너희 혼들을 위하여 쉼을 얻으리라.’ 하였으나 그들이 말하기를 그곳으로 걸어가지 아니하리라.’ 하는도다.”(렘 6:16)

        그렇습니다. 하나님께서 말씀하시는 “쉼“은 육신적인 쉼이 아니라 영적인 “혼의 쉼“을 말씀하시는 것입니다. 이스라엘 백성들에게 혼의 쉼을 얻어야 할 것을 말씀하셨던 주 하나님께서 마침내 예수라는 이름으로 육신으로 나타나셔서 다시 한 번 혼의 쉼에 대하여 유대인들을 향하여 얼굴과 얼굴을 대면하여 말씀하셨습니다. “수고하고 무거운 짐진 자들아, 다 내게로 오라. 그러면 내가 너에게 쉼을 주리라. 나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니, 내 멍에를 메고 나에게서 베우라. 그리하면 너희가 너희 혼에 쉼을 얻으리라. 이는 내 멍에는 쉽고 내 짐은 가볍기 때문이라”(마 11:28-30))

      많은 사람들은 여전히 하나님께서 주시는 쉼을 알지 못하고 있으며 그들이 쉬기를 원하지만 자신들이 쉬지 못하고 있는 것을 깨닫지도 못하고 있는 것을 봅니다. 그들 대부분은 육신적으로 편안하게 살면 쉴 수 있는 줄 알고 평생 동안 은퇴 후에 돈 걱정하지 않고 살기 위하여 집도 장만하고 은퇴구죄에 열심히 돈을 저축하는 것을 봅니다. 그러나 결국 그들은 육신적인 편안함이 결코 쉼을 주지 못한다는 사실을 죽기 전에 가서야 깨닫게 되는 것입니다. 미국 사회에서 가장 인기 있는 슬로건이 있다면 “경제적인 자유“(Financial Freedom)일 것입니다. 주 예수 그리스도를 믿어 영이 거듭나고 혼이 구원받아야 진정한 쉼을 얻는 것을 알지 못하기 때문입니다. 그들은 평생 동안 수고하고 무거운 짐을 지고 살아가면서 진정한 안식을 누리지 못하면서 그들이 지고 가는 무거운 짐들이 그들 안에 박혀 있는 죄라는 것을 알지 못하는 것입니다. 또한 죄로 인하여 늙어서 죽을 뿐만 아니라 영원히 쉴 수 없는 지옥에 가야만하는 두려움의 짐을 지고 있으며 또한 여러가지 저주들로 인해 고통 당하면서 혼의 쉼을 얻지 못한 사실을 깨닫지 못하고 있는 것입니다.

        하나님께서는 사망에 대하여, 그리고 무덤에 들어가야 하는 이유에 대하여 “사망이 쏘는 것은 죄요, 죄의 능력은 율법이라.”(고전 15:56)고 사도 바울을 통하여 말씀하고 있으며 모든 율법의 죄를 대속하시기 위하여 죽으시고 장사되시고 부활하신 주 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 죄와 사망과 모든 저주들을 이김으로써 혼의 쉼을 얻는 유일한 길을 열어주신 것입니다. 예수께서 자신이 길이요 진리요 생명이시라(요 14:6)고 선포하신 것처럼 죄로 인해 무거운 짐을 지고 쉼을 얻지 못하는 죄인들을 구원하셔서 혼을 구원하실 때 진정한 쉼을 얻게 되는 것입니다.

        성경의 마지막 책에서는 영원히 쉼을 얻지 못하는 자들에 대하여 말씀하고 있습니다. “셋째 천사가 그들을 따라가며 큰 음성으로 말하기를 ‘누구든지 그 짐승과 그의 형상에게 경배하고 그의 표를 자기 이마나 손에 받는다면 그 역시 하나님의 진노의 포도주를 마시게 되리니, 그것은 그의 진노의 잔에 혼합하지 않고 부은 것이니라. 또 그 사람은 거룩한 천사들의 면전과 어린 양의 면전에서 불과 유황으로 고통을 받으리니, 그 고통의 연기가 영원무궁토록 올라가리라. 그 짐승과 그의 형상에게 경배하고 그의 이름의 표를 받는 자는 누구든지 밤낮 쉼을 얻지 못하리라.”(계 14:9-11)

그렇습니다. 예수 그리스도께서 주시는 쉼을 얻기 뒤하여 그분께 나와 그분을 믿어 영접하지 않는 사람들이 가게 될 지옥과 불못은 영원히 혼의 쉼을 얻지 못하는 장소인 것입니다.

        주 예수 그리스도를 믿어 혼이 구원받은 하나님의 자녀들은 영적으로 이미 세상으로부터 나온 사람들입니다. 이스라엘 백성들이 이집트로부터 나와 홍해 속에서 민족적으로 침례를 받고 뱀과 전갈이 있는 광야로 나온 것처럼 모든 그리스도인들 역시 이집트같은 세상으로부터 나와 침례 받고 여전히 물리적으로는 광야같은 세상을 살아가고 있는 것입니다. 비록 혼의 구원을 받았을지라도 광야 같은 세상을 살아가면서 빛이신 하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 삶을 살지 못하면 성령님의 임재를 벗어나게 되어 혼의 쉼을 누리지 못하게 되는 것입니다. 그러므로 혼의 구원을 받은 하나님의 자녀들은 마귀가 통치하는 광야 같은 세상에서 살면서 육신을 따라가지 않고 성령을 통하여 주시는 말씀을 따라 살아갈 때에 정죄 의식 없이 생명의 성령의 법 안에서 생명과 평안 가운데 혼의 쉼을 누리면서 하나님과 평안을 누리고 살 수 있는 것입니다. 그러나 육신의 생각을 따라가면 어두움 가운데 평안을 누릴 수 없는 것입니다. (롬 8:1-14)그러나 주 예수 그리스도께서 나타나시는 휴거의 날에 죄의 몸을 벗어버리고 죽지 않고 썩지 않는 몸을 입을 때 우리는 의와 평강과 기쁨 안에서 영원한 쉼을 주님과 함께 누리게 될 것입니다. 이 날만이 우리에게 위로가 되는 소망의 날이 되는 것입니다. 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 11:1-7

Subject: Rest of soul in the presence of the Holy Ghost

       The LORD God answered Moses who is the servant of God called for guiding the people of Israel of multimillions into the land of Canaan, when he made supplication through prayer. Upon the answer of God for his prayer, he made another supplication unto the LORD God, saying, “If I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight; and consider that this nation is thy people.”(Ex. 33:13)

        Then, God answered unto him, saying, “My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest” Moses asked the LORD God once again, saying, “If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.” And he continued to say unto the LORD, “For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.” Then, again the LORD God answered him right away saying, “I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.”

      After God answered Moses in his words, he made another supplication unto God again saying, “I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.” Then, God promised Moses to be with him again saying, “I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.”

       Upon his request to see his glory, God spoke unto him saying, “Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.” Even this time, knowing the heart of Moses, God heard his supplication saying, “Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:”

“I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.”

       Moses, the servant of God who had a heavy burden had to guide the multimillion of people into the land of Canaan passing through the wilderness neither with any way, nor water, nor foods to eat, but only with the danger of snakes and scorpions, he couldn’t help giving serious supplications unto God. Not only this, but he needed more confidence through seeing the glory of God; God knew his thoughts in his heart. God gave him a special grace and mercy, and let him see the back of God, even though no one could live upon seeing God because of sins inside heart of man.

       Afterwards, the LORD God gave a very important notice of warning just before they entered Canaan saying, they shall be blessed, if they hear the words of God to keep them in the lad of Canaan; but if not, they shall receive all kinds of curses:

“And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:

And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:

6n the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.”(Deut. 28:65-67)

       The habitants born in this world to live and grow couldn’t have true rest, not knowing the reason of unrest. Job who lived thousands years ago confessed of his life saying, “My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.”)Job 30:17)

Even king Solomon who had a great glory also confessed saying,

“If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.”(Prov. 29:9) The LORD God spoke unto the people of Israel of the reason why they couldn’t have rest in their life through prophet Jeremiah saying

“Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, we will not walk therein.”(Jer. 6:16)

       Yea! God didn’t mean as carnal one, but the spiritual one as the rest of soul, when he said of rest The LORD God who spoke unto the people of Israel of the rest of soul was manifested in flesh in the name of Jesus spoke unto the Jews once again of the rest of soul saying, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”(Matt. 11:28-30)

        Most of men still not understand the rest given by God; in other word, they not understand why they cannot rest in this world even though they want to rest. Most of them understand that they shall have rest in the midst of wealth giving them comfortable life; so that they buy their own house, and save retirement fund in their account to live free financially. But they shall understand that their wealth cannot give rest finally right before they pass away. One of very popular slogan in the society of America, that is “Financial Freedom“, because they couldn’t understand the true rest coming form salvation soul with reviving spirit that is given through believing in Jesus Christ. Living without rest bearing heavy burdens and labors, they not understand that their heavy burden and labor are coming from sins engraved in their heart. Another burden that they carry without knowing of it is the fear to getting old unto death, and also that they are on the way to the hell without rest eternally where they are going not to rest because all kinds of curses.

        God spoke the reason of death as well as men must be buried in graves through Apostle Paul saying, “The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.”(1Cor. 15:56)

God has opened the only way to have rest of souls through believing in Jesus Christ who died and buried and rose again to redeem the sins of the law through overcoming sis and death curses. As Jesus declared of himself saying, “I am the way and the truth and the life”(John 14:6), The salvation of soul gives true rest of life through being free from heavy burdens because of sins.

       The scripture in the book of revelation testifies of them that cannot have eternally: “And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.”(Rev. 14:9-11) Yea! It is only reason why they spend their eternity in the hell and the lake of fire without the rest of soul is just they not believed in the Lord Jesus Christ nor received him, nor come to him to receive the rest of soul.

       The children of God have already come out of the world spiritually. As the people of Israel came out of Egypt, and baptized nationally in the Red Sea to enter the wilderness where serpents and scorpions therein, all Christians also came out of the world as Egypt and baptized to live still in the world as wilderness. Therefore, even though our souls are saved, we could lose the rest of soul not staying in the presence of the Holy Ghost unless we walk in the light of the words of God through obeying the Lord God. Therefore the children of God can live with rest of soul in peace without guilty feeling in the law of the law of the Spirit of life when they follow the words of God through the Holy Ghost, not following the flesh. If there is no peace in the darkness in the carnally thinking (Rom. 8:1-14).

In the day of Rapture when Christ appears, we shall have eternal rest in righteous and peace and joy with the Lord Jesus Christ after we put on the body of sin to put on the immortal and incorruptible body. Only this day shall be the day of hope giving eternal comfort. Amen! Hallelujah!
