금주의 묵상: 시편 28:1-9

본문: 민수기 20:1-13

제목: 반석에게 말하여 생명수를 마시고 있는가?

        하나님께서 모세를 통하여 이스라엘 백성들을 광야로 인도하시어 그들이 여덟 번째 여정에 이르렀을 때 백성들이 모세와 다투면서 마실 물을 달라고 하면서 하나님을 시험하려 했습니다. 그들은 여전히 불평하며 말하기를 “어찌하여 네가 이집트에서 우리를 데리고 나와서 우리와 우리 자녀와 우리의 가축을 목말라 죽게 하느냐?”고 모세에게 달려들었습니다. 또한 그들은 모세에게 돌을 던져 죽이려고까지 했습니다(출 17:1-4)

      모세의 부르짖음을 들으신 하나님께서 모세에게 말씀하시기를, “백성 앞을 지나가서 이스라엘 장로들을 데리고 강을 쳤던 네 막대기를 손에 잡고 가라. 보라, 내가 거기 호렙에 있는 반석 위에서 네 앞에 서리니 너는 그 반석을 치라. 그러면 그곳에서 물이 나오리니, 백성이 마시라.”고 말씀하셨습니다. 모세가 이스라엘 장로들 앞에서 그렇게 행하였을 때 하나님께서는 백성들이 마실 물을 주셨습니다(출 17:5,6).

     그렇습니다! 하나님은 말씀이시며 창조주이십니다. 그분의 말씀으로 하늘과 땅을 창조하셨으며 그 안에 모든 만물들을 창조하셨고 그 동일한 말씀으로 하나의 오차도 없이 운행하고 계신 것입니다. 하나님께서 반석이 아닌 그 어떤 다른 것을 치라하셨을지라도 그들이 필요한 물이 솟아날 수 밖에 없는 것입니다. 태초에 하나님께서 하늘과 땅을 창조하신 것을 믿지 못하는 사람은 성경말씀 어느 한 곳도 믿기 힘들며, 창세기 1장 1절을 아무 의심 없이 믿을 수 있는 사람은 모든 하나님의 말씀을 믿고 행함으로써 그분의 창조의 역사를 경험하면서 하나님께 영광돌리는 삶을 살 수 있는 것입니다.

        하나님께서는 모세를 통하여 말씀하셨습니다: “그분은 반석이시며 그분의 역사는 완벽하나니, 이는 그분의 모든 길이 공의이심이라. 그분은 진실하시고 악이 없으신 하나님이시니, 의로우시고 정직하시도다.”(신 32:4)

      사무엘을 낳은 한나는 그녀의 기도 가운데 주님에 대하여 예언적인 말을 증거했습니다: “주와 같이 거룩한 분은 없나니, 이는 주밖에 다른 이가 없고 우리 하나님과 같은 어떤 반석도 없음이니이다.”(삼상 2:2)

        하나님의 사람인 다윗 왕도 하나님께 찬양의 시로 노래했습니다: “주는 나의 반석이시요, 나의 요새시며, 나의 구원자시라. 내 반석의 하나님, 그분을 내가 신뢰하리라. 그는 나의 방패시요, 나의 구원의 뿔이시며, 나의 높은 망대시요, 나의 피난처시요, 나의 구주시라. 주께서 나를 폭력으로부터 구원해 주시나이다…주 외에 누가 하나님이시리요? 또 우리 하나님 외에 누가 반석이시리요?….주는 살아계시니, 내 반석을 송축하라. 내 구원의 반석의 하나님을 높일지라.”(삼하 22:2,3,32,47)

      다윗왕은 시편 여러 곳에서도 반석이신 주 하나님을 끊임없이 찬양하며 송축했습니다. 그는 광야에서 마실 물을 주셨던 하나님을 찬양하면서 “그는 광야에서 반석들을 쪼개시어 크고 깊은 곳에서 나는 마실 것을 그들에게 주셨도다. 그는 또한 반석에서 시냇물을 내시어 물들이 강같이 흐르게 하셨도다…보라, 그가 반석을 치시어 물들이 쏟아져 나오게 하시고 시내들을 넘치게 하셨도다…”((시 78:15,16,20)

다윗왕은 성령의 기름부으심을 통하여 그 반석이 하나님이심을 증거했던 것입니다. 그러므로 성령으로 다시 태어나지 않고서는 그 반석이 하나님이신 것을 알 수 없는 것입니다.

          마침내 광야에서 반석이 되셔서 물을 주셨던 하나님께서 사람이 되셔서 유대인들에게 말씀하셨습니다: “그러므로 누구든지 나의 이 말을 듣고 행하는 사람은 자기 집을 반석 위에 지은 현명한 사람과 같아서 비가 내리고 홍수가 나며 바람이 불어 그 집에 들이쳐도 무너지지 아니하나니, 이는 그 집이 반석 위에 세워졌음이요.”(마 7:24,25) 뿐만 아니라 그분께서 세우실 교회에 대하여 “이 반석 위에 내가 나의 교회를 세우리니, 지옥의 문들이 그것을 이기지 못하리라.”(마 16:18)고 친히 말씀하셨습니다. 주님께서는 반석이신 자신 을 믿고 영접하는 사람들은 어느누구도 지옥으로 떨어지지 않는 권세를 주실 것을 미리 말씀하신 것입니다.

      성령의 사람 사도 바울도 반석이 되셔서 이 땅에 나타나실 선지자의 예언을 인용하면서 반석이신 주 예수 그리스도에 대하여 증거했습니다: “기록된 바와 같으니, ‘보라, 내가 시온에 걸려 넘어지게 하는 돌과 거치는 반석을 두노니 누구든지 그를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당하지 아니하리라.’ 하였으니라.”(롬 9:33) 그도 또한 광야에서 이스라엘 백성들에게 물을 내었던 반석에 대하여 “모두 같은 영적 음료를 마셨다는 것이라. 이는 그들이 그들을 따랐던 그 영적 반석에서 나온 것을 마셨음이요, 그 반석은 그리스도셨음이라.”(고전 10:4)

        사도 베드로도 그리스도에 대하여 증거하기를, “또 실족하게 하는 돌과 거치는 반석이 되었으니, 곧 불순종함으로 말씀에 실족하하는 자들에게니라. 그들은 또한 그렇게 되기로 정해졌느니라.”(벧전 2:8)고 말함으로써 주 예수 그리스도를 믿지 않은 자들은 마치 반석에 걸려 넘어진 사람들과 같음에 대하여 증거한 것입니다.

        하나님께서 첫 번째로 반석으로부터 강같은 물을 내셨을 때에는 모세에게 그가 가진 막대기로 반석을 치라고 말씀하셨습니다. 하나님께서는 반석을 한 번 치게 하심으로써 앞으로 자신의 독생자를 이 땅에 보내실 때 유대인들에게 거치는 반석이 되게 하셔서 그들이 반석이신 예수 그리스도를 거절하고 그를 쳐서 죽게 하심으로써 세상죄를 제거하시고(요 1:29) 부활하셔서 믿는 자들에게 성령을 주셔서 그들 안에 생명수가 흐르게 하실 것을 예언적으로 미리 보여주신 것입니다.

        본문에서는 다시 한 번 물이 없어 이스라엘 회중이 모세에게 또 다시 불평하면서 마실 물을 달라고 하면서 모세에게 달려드는 것을 봅니다. 모세와 아론이 회중의 성막 분에서 엎드렸을 때 주의 영광이 나타나셨습니다. 영광 가운데 주께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하셨습니다: “막대기를 가지고 너와 네 형 아론은 회중을 모아놓고 그들의 목전에서 바위에게 말하라. 그러면 그것이 자기 물을 내리니, 너는 바위에서 나온 물을 그들에게 가져갈지니라. 그리하여 너는 그 회중과 그들의 짐승에게 주어 마시게 할지니라.”(민 20:8)

        하나님께서는 이번에는 반석을 치라고 말씀하시지 않으시고 바위(반석)에게 말하라고 하셨습니다. 이 말씀 가운데 주시는 영적인 진리는, 반석이신 주 예수 그리스도께서는 더 이상 죽으실 필요가 없으신 분이심을 말씀하신 것입니다. 이에 대하여 히브리서 기자는 “염소와 송아지의 피로 아니하고 오직 자신의 피로 한 번 성소에 들어가셔서 우리를 위하여 영원한 구속을 이루셨느니라.”(히 9:12)고 증거한 것입니다.

          하나님의 뜻을 깨닫지 못한 모세는 백성들에게 화가난 나머지 “패역한 너희는 이제 들으라. 우리가 이 바위에서 물을 나오게 해야만 하겠느냐?”라고 외치면서 손을 들어 자기 막대기로 그 바위(반석)를 두 번 쳤습니다. 그가 성을 냄으로써 하나님의 의를 이루지 못하게 하였던 것입니다(약 1:20). 하나님께서는 말씀을 믿지 않고 불순종함으로써 거룩하신 하나님의 이름을 이스라엘 백성의 목전에서 더럽힌 모세와 아론에게 그 회중을 약속의 땅으로 데려가지 못하게 할 것을 말씀하셨으며 아론은 그후에 죽어 그의 아들이 그의 뒤를 잇게 하셨습니다. 그러나 은혜가 풍성하신 하나님께서는 백성들을 위하여 물이 풍부하게 나오게 하셔서 회중과 짐승들로 마시게 하셨습니다.

        그렇습니다! 한 번 죽으심으로써 믿는 모든 사람들을 모든 율법의 죄들로부터 구원하신 반석이신 주 예수 그리스도께서는 더 이상 죽으실 수 없는 분이신 것입니다. 그분을 믿는 자들은 누구나 필요한 것에 대하여 기도를 통하여 반석이신 그분께 말씀드리면 되는 것입니다. 주님께서는 제자들에게 자신의 이름으로 하나님께 구하라고 말씀하신 것입니다. 우리는 더 이상 사람들 때문에 실족함으로 분을 낼 필요가 없는 것입니다. 반석이신 주님만 바라보면서 그분의 말씀을 듣고 행하면서 그분께 말씀드리면서 항상 생명수 같은 성령으로 충만함을 받는 가운데 그분의 이름을 증거하는 삶을 살아야 하는 것입니다. 주님께서는 자신을 믿는 자들의 배로부터 생수의 강이 흘러나리라고 약속하셨습니다(요 7:38). 우리 안에서 흘러나오는 생명수로 많은 사람들이 복음을 믿음으로써 생수를 마시게 하는 축복을 주어야 하는 것입니다. 이멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 28:1-9

Main scripture: Number 20:1-13

Subject: Are you speaking unto the rock, and drink living waters?

        God was leading the Israel in the wilderness through Moses; and they were in the eighth stage of journey. They argued with Moses asking water to drink, and they tempted the LORD God. They murmured, and spoke unto Moses saying, “And why have ye brought up the congregation of the Lord into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there.”(Ex. 17:4)

They even tried stone unto Moses(Ex. 17:1-4)

        Upon hearing that Moses cried unto the LORD, God said unto him saying, “And the Lord said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smoothest the river, take in thine hand, and go.

Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.”(Ex. 17:5,6)

And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel; God gave them water to drink.

        Yea! God himself is the Word as well as the Creator. He created heaven and earth through his word as well as all things therein. He is running all things without any mistake at all. Even though God had asked to smite something else than the rock, that must have been able to give them water to drink. Whosoever not believes that God made heaven and earth couldn’t believe any word of God at all. Instead he that believes Genesis 1:1 without any doubt could believe all the words of God , and obey them so that he could experience his creation, and glorify him.

        God spoke through Moses saying, “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”(Deut. 32:4)

        Mother of Samuel testified of the Lord in her prayer prophetically saying, “There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”(1Sam. 2:2)

        King David, a man of God also sang with his praising psalm unto God saying,

 “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

…… For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?… The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.”(2Sam. 22:2,3,32,47)

        King David praised the LORD God that is the Rock continually, and blessed him also:

 “He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

….. Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?”(Ps. 78:15;16;20)

King David testified of God as the Rock through the anointing of the Spirit. Unless man is born again of the Spirit, no one can understands God as the Rock.

        Finally, the LORD God that gave water from the rock became a man, and spoke unto the Jew:

 “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.”((Matt. 7:24,25)

And he testified of the church that he should build saying,

 “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”(Matt. 16:18)

he meant, whosoever believe on him, the rock, and receive shall not fall into the hell.

        Apostle Paul, a man of the Holy Ghost quoted the prophesy of the Lord Jesus as a rock to appear in the earth, and testified of him saying,

 “As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”(Rom. 9:33)

He also testified of the rock that gave water unto the people of Israel in the wilderness saying, “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”(1Cor. 10:4)

          Apostle Peter testified of Christ saying,

 “And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointe.”(1Pet. 2:8)

He meant, whosoever not believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is like a man that stumble over a rock.

        When the LORD God gave them water for the first time in the wilderness, he asked Moses to smite the rock with his rod. Actually, the LORD God tried to show them the Lord Jesus Christ prophetically that shall be rejected by the Jew making him a stumbling rock, and smitten by them unto death as the rock smitten to take away the sin of the world(John 1:29), and rise again from the dead to give the life eternal as the living water.

        In the main passage, now we see the congregation of Israel that are fighting with Moses and Aaron arguing for water to drink once again. When Moses and Aaron fell upon their face unto the LORD God, the glory of the LORD appeared unto them. The LORD God spoke unto them in his glory saying,

 “Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.”(Num. 20:8)

          Now, God not asked them to smite the rock, but speak unto it. Actually, God prophesied unto them, the Lord Jesus Christ that is the rock shall not die anymore again. The writer of Hebrews testified of this truth saying,

 “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”(Heb. 9:12)

        Moses not understood the will of God; and got angry with them, and said unto them,

 “Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?” And he smote the rock twice; his wrath of anger couldn’t work the righteousness of God(James 1:20). The LORD Good spoke unto Moses and Aaron, because they not believed him not, to sanctify him in the eyes of the children of Israel, and said unto them “therefore ye shall not bring the congregation into the land which I have given them.”

Afterwards, Aaron died, and his son took over the priest from him. Instead, the LORD God with abundant grace gave them abundant waters for them as well as their beasts to drink.

        Yea! The Lord Jesus Christ not need to die again, because he died once for the believers for the sins of the law as the rock of salvation smitten once in the wilderness. They that believe on him only have to speak unto him as the rock in the wilderness through prayer whatever they need. The Lord Jesus spoke unto his disciples to ask anything unto the Father God in his name. We don’t have to be offended by men anymore to get angry with them. Just looking upon the Lord Jesus Christ, the living Rock, we only have to hear his words and obey them and speak unto him so that we may be filled with the Holy Spirit as living water, and testify his name. The Lord Jesus spoke unto the Jew saying, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”(John 7:38). We are ones that may bless unto them that believe the gospel of grace of Christ through the living water flowing from within us. Amen! Hallelujah!
