금주의 묵상: 시편 133:1-3

본문: 여호수아 24:1-28

제목: 하나님의 자녀들에게 주시는 주 예수 그리스도의 마지막 당부의 말씀

      오늘 본문에서는 가나안 땅으로 이스라엘 백성들을 인도한 여호수아가 죽기 전에 백성들에게 마지막 당부의 말을 남기는 장면을 봅니다. 이스라엘 백성은 이미 약속의 땅인 가나안 땅에 들어와 있었습니다.

      여호수아는 하나님께서 그들에게 베푸신 일들에 대하여 낱낱이 말하고 있습니다.

하수 건너 편, 즉 큰 강 유프라테스 건너 편 바빌론에서 우상을 섬기면서 살고 있는 테라의 가문에서 아브라함을 택하시어 이삭과 야곱을 통하여 이스라엘 백성들을 번성케 하셨다고 증거하고 있습니다. 하나님의 뜻 가운데 그들을 이집트로 인도하시고 사백 년 동안 종살이 하게 하셔서 그들을 낮추셨지만 마침내 모세와 아론을 보내시어 그들을 자유케 하셨으며, 그들을 추격하던 이집트의 모든 군대들을 홍해에서 한 사람도 남기지 않고 죽이심으로써 하나님의 영광을 그들에게 나타내셨다고 증거하고 있습니다.

        뿐만 아니라 가나안 땅에 살고 있던 일곱 족속들을 그들에게 넘겨주심으로써 그들의 칼로나 활로 한 것이 아니라 하나님께서 친히 그들로 하여금 그 땅을 차지하게 하셨으며 그들이 수고하지 아니한 땅과 그들이 짓지 않은 성읍들을 그들에게 주셔서 그들이 만들지 아니한 포도원들과 올리브 밭들에서 나는 것을 먹게 하셨다고 증거하고 있습니다.

        그리고나서 여호수아는 그들에게 마지막으로 다짐하고 있는 것입니다: “그러므로 이제 주를 두려워하고 성실과 진리로 그분을 섬기라. 너희 조상들이 하수 저편과 이편에서 섬겼던 신들을 버리고, 너희는 주를 섬기라. 만일 주를 섬기는 것이 너희에게 악하게 보이거든 하수 건너편에서 너희 조상이 섬기던 신들이거나 너희가 거하는 땅의 아모리인들의 신들이든 간에 너희가 섬길 자를 오늘날 너희가 택하라. 그러나 나와 내집은 주를 섬기리라.”

      여호수아가 하는 말에 대하여 이스라엘 백성들은 “우리가 주 우리 하나님을 섬기고 그의 음성을 우리가 복종하리이다.”라고 대답했습니다. 그 날에 여호수아는 그 백성과 더불어 언약을 세우고 세켐에서 그들에게 율례와 규례를 전해 주었으며 그 모든 말씀을 하나님의 율법책에 기록하고, 큰 돌을 취하여 거기 주의 성소 옆에 있는 상수리나무 아래에다 세웠습니다. 여호수아는 그 큰 돌이 모든 말씀을 들었으니 그들이 하나님을 부인하지 못하도록 증거가 될 것이라고 말했습니다.

        이전에 하나님께서는 모세를 통하여 이스라엘 백성들에게 아주 중요한 말씀을 하셨습니다:

“내가 그들의 형제들 가운데서 너와 같은한 선지자를 그들에게 일으켜서 내 말들을 그의 입에 두리라. 그리하면 그는 내가 그에게 명령할 모든 것을 그들에게 말하리라. 그가 내 이름으로 말할 내 말들에 경청하지 않는 자는 누구라도 내기 그에게 그것을 요구하리라. 그러나 그 선지자가 내가 그에게 말하라고 명령하지 아니한 것을 내 이름으로 감히 말하거나 다른 신들의 이름으로 말한다면 그 선지자는 반드시 죽일지니라….어떤 선지자가 주의 이름으로 말하는데 그런 일이 일어나지도 않고 성취되지도 않았으면 그것은주께서 말씀하신 것이 아니라 그 선지자가 주제 넘게 말한 것이니 너는 그를 무서워 말지니라.”(신 18:18-20, 22)

        하나님께서는 오랜 후에 자신의 독생자이신 주 예수 그리스도께서 한 선지자로 이 땅에 보내실 것을 미리 말씀하신 것입니다. 그분께서는 진리를 전하시기 위하여 세상에 오셨다고 빌라도에게 말씀하셨습니다. 그리고 진리에 대하여 하나님의 말씀이라고 마지막 기도에서 밀씀하셨습니다. 오늘 본문을 통하여 앞으로 나타나실 예수 그리스도의 모형으로서 이스라엘 백성들을 가나안 땅으로 인도한 여호수아를 통하여 백성들에게 명령하는 한 선지자의 모습을 보는 것입니다,

        결국 이스라엘 백성들은 여호수아 앞에서 그들이 그들의 주 하나님을 섬기고 복종하겠다고 서원한 말을 어기고 이방신들을 섬기다가 여호수아 보다 더 크신 예수님께서 이 땅에 나타나시기 606년 전에 바빌론에 의하여 멸망당하고 그들이   하나님을 섬기던 성전과 모든 성읍이 불타버리고 그들의 땅은 이방인의 손에 넘어가고 말았던 것입니다, 뿐만 아니라 모세를 통하여 에언하신 한 선지자이신 주 예수 그리스도께서 나타나셔서 그들에게 다시 말씀하심으로써 다시 한 번 그들에게 기회를 주셨지만 그들은 그분을 핍박하고 거절하고 죽임으로써 서기 70 년에 로마의 티투스 장군에 의해서 성전의 돌 위에 돌 하나도 남기지 않고 무너져버리고 그들은 그때부터 나라를 잃어버리고 온 땅에 흩어지게 되었던 것입니다.

        사도 바울은 “전에 기록된 것은 우리의 교훈을 위하여 기록된 것이니 이는 성경이 주는 인내와 위로로써 소망을 지니게 하려 함이니라. 이제 인내와 위로의 하나님께서 너희에게 그리스도 예수를 따라서 서로 같은 생각을 갖게 하사 한 생각과 한 입으로하나님, 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하시길 원하노라. 그러므로 그리스도께서도 하나님의 영광에 이르도록 우리를 받아들이신 것같이 너희도 서로를 받아들이라.”(롬 15:4-7)고 로마에 있는 성도들에게 권면했습니다.

        그렇습니다. 우리 또한 옛날 아브라함처럼 우상을 섬기던 나라로부터 이끌어내셔서 은혜를 주셔서 유일하신 참 하나님 어비지와 그의 보내신 자 주 예수 그리스도를 알게 하셔서 믿음으로 그분을 영접하여 이제는 이 세상에 속한 자들이 아니고 하늘 나라에 속한 그의 자녀들로 삼아주신 것입니다. 에수님을 주 하나님으로 구세주로 믿어 영접한 모든 사람들은 옛날 여호수아 앞에서 서원한 이스라엘 백성들처럼 주 예수 그리스도를 섬기고 그분의 말씀에 복종하기로 서원한 사람들인 것입니다.

        또한 아브라함을 우상을 섬기던 나라로부터 이끌어내셔서 그의 자손들을 번성케 하셨던 하나님께서는 우리 또한 주 예수 그리스도 안에서 많은 열매를 맺게 하심으로써 하나님께서 영광을 받으시기를 원하시는 것입니다. 예수께서는 이에 대하여 제자들에게 친히 말씀하셨습니다:

“너희가 많은 열매를 맺는 이 일로 내 아버지께서 영화롭게 되실 것이요 너희는 내 제자들이 되리라. 아버지께서 나를 사랑하신 것같이 나도 너희를 사랑하였으니 너희는 내 사랑 안에 계속 거하라. 내가 아버지의 계명을 지켜서 그분의 사랑 안에 거하는 것같이 너희도 나의 계명들을 지키면 나의 사랑 안에 거히리라. 내가 이런 것을 너희에게 말한 것은 나의 기쁨이 너희 안에 머물러 있어 너희의 기쁨이 충만하게 하려는 것이라. 나의 계명은 이것이니, 내가 너희를 사랑하는 것같이 너희도 서로 사랑하라는 것이라. 사람이 친구를 위하여 자기 생명을 내어 놓는 것보다 더 위대한 사랑은 없나니 내가 명령한 대로 너희가 행하면 너희는 나의 친구들이라.”(요 15:8-14)

        그렇습니다. 주 예수 그리스도를 믿어 그분을 전심으로 영접하여 성령으로 다시 태어나서 하나님의 자녀가 된 사람은 누구나 예수님께서 주신 새 계명을 지킬 것을 서원한 사람들인 것입니다. 이 서원은 이 땅에 있는 산천초목들이 증인들이 되는 것입니다. 옛날 큰 돌이 이스라엘 백성들이 서원한 것에 대한 증인이 된 것과 같은 것입니다. 우리에게 주신 계명은 결코 어려운 것이 아닌 것입니다. 옛날 이스라엘 백성들에게 주신 옛 계명은 이미 이천 년 전에 십자가에 못박히셔서 죽으신 주 예수 그리스도의 몸으로 전가되어 주님의 죽으심과 더불어 못박아 없애셨으며(골 2:14) 우리에게는 주님께서 주시는 멍에는 쉽고 기볍다고(마 11:30) 말씀하신 것처럼 원하기만 하면 기쁨으로 행할 수 있는 아름다운 계명인 것입니다.

        율법시대에 어느누구도 그 법을 지킬 수 없었던 것은 성령을 통하여 하나님의 사랑이 사람들의 마음에 부어지지 않았었기 때문입니다. 그러나   그리스도께서 죽으시고 부활하신 후 성령이 오신 지금 성령으로 거듭난 하나님의 자녀들은 성령 안에서 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑할 수 있게 된 것입니다. 하나님의 영이 있는 자만이 사랑의 열매를 맺을 수 있기 때문인 것입니다.

 사도 바울은 주님께서 우리에게 주신 큰 은혜에 대하여 고린도교회 성도들에게 간곡하게 증거했습니다:

 “형제들아, 너희는 너희의 부르심을 보라. 부르심을 받은 자들은 육신을 따라 지혜로운 자가 많지 않고 권력 있는 자도 많지 않으며 좋은 가문에서 태어난 자도 많지 아니하니라. 그러나 하나님께서 세상의 어리석은 것들을 선택하심은 지혜로운 자들로 부끄럽게 하시려는 것이요, 하나님께서 세상의 약한 것들을 선택하심은 강한 것들을 부끄럽게 하시려는 것이라. 하나님께 세상의 천한 것들과 멸시받는 것들을 선택하신 것은 없는 것들로 있는 것들을 쓸모없게 만들려 하심이라. 그리하여 아무 육체라도 그분의 면전에서 자랑하지 못하게 되리라. 그러나 너희는 그분께로부터 나서 그리스도 예수 안에 있고 주께서는 하나님께로부터 나셔서 우리에게 지혜와 의와 거룩함과 구속이 되셨으니 기록된 바와 같이 자랑하는 자는 주를 자랑할지니라.‘(고전 1:26-31)

      그렇습니다! 우리의 자랑은 우리같은 비참한 죄인들에게 그 큰 은혜를 주신 주 예수 그리스도밖에는 아무 것도 자랑할 것이 없으며 이 은혜를 깨닫는 자는 누구나 하나님께로부터 난 자들을 뜨겁게 사랑하게 되는 것입니다(요일 5:1, 벧전 1:22). 이 큰 은혜를 받은 자가 어찌 같은 하나님의 자녀들을 멸시하고 시기하고 미워함으로써 살인죄를 지을 수 있겠습니까?

        마지막 때에 배교한 교회를 향하여 주님께서 말씀하셨습니다:

 “그러나 너를 책망할 것이 다소 있나니, 이는 네가 나의 첫 사랑을 저버린 것 때문이라. 그러므로 네가 어디서 떨어졌는지를 기억하고 회개하며, 너는 처음 일들을 행하라. 만일 그렇지 않고 회개하지 아니하면 내가 속히 너에게 와서 네 촛대를 그 자리에서 옮기리라.”(계 2:4,5) 아멘! 할렐루야!

Meditation of the week: Psalms 133:1-3

Main scripture: Joshua 24:1-28

Subject: Final word of encouragement given unto the children of God from the Lord Jesus

        In the main passage, we hear the final word of Joshua who had led the people of Israel unto the land of Canaan. The People of Israel was dwelling in the land of Canaan that was promised by God unto Abraham.

        Joshua was speaking unto them one by one of the things that had been given as grace for them.

He testified, the LORD God had chosen Abraham from the family of Terah who was dwelling in other side of flood worshipping idols; and God had made him multiplied through Isaac and Jacob. Afterwards, God had led them to Egypt; and he lowered them through the slavery for four hundred years under Egyptian. Finally, sending Moses and Aaron, God gave them liberty; and God killed the soldiers of Pharaoh that attacked behind them in the Red Sea not leaving anyone alive. The LORD God showed them his glory.

        And God delivered the seven tribes of the Gentile nations into their hand so that they were able to occupy their lands without their sword, nor with their bow only through the power of God. And God had given them a land for which they did not labour, and cities which they built not, and they dwelt in them. And God let them eat of the vineyards and olive yards which they planted not.

        Thereafter, Joshua gave them final word for them make decision saying,

 “Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”(Joshua 24:14,15)

          The people of Israel answered him saying, “The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.”(Joshua 24:24)

Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem. And he wrote theses words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD. And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us: for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke unto them, lest they deny their God.

        The LORD God has spoke unto the people of Israel through Moses of a very important word saying,

 “I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

….. When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”(Deut. 18:18-20,22)

        The LORD God fore told them of the Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten his Son to be sent unto them as a prophet fifteen hundreds years later. Jesus said unto Pilate , he was sent to preach the truth that is the word of God as said in his final prayer. Even in the main passage, we also see a prophet who had led the people of Israel into the land of Canaan as a model of Jesus.

        After all, the people of Israel had broken their pledge that they will serve the LORD and obey him; instead, they had served the gods of the Gentiles. They were destroyed by Babylon in BC 606 delivering their temple of God and all the cities into the hand of Babylon to be burnt, even their land.

      Finally, God gave them another opportunity for them by sending another prophet as spoken through Moses. He was t the Lord Jesus Christ that spoke unto them, but they rejected him and persecuted him, and crucified him.

Losing their final chance to repent their sins, city of Jerusalem including the temple of God was destroyed by Titus, the Roams general not leaving a stone on a stone; they lost their land, and scattered into all the earth in AD 70.

        Apostle Paul testified saying,

 “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.”(1Cor. 1:4-7)

        Yeah! Our Father God delivered us from the nation that was worshipping idols; and gave us grace so that we may know the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom he has sent; and by grace we received him by faith to be the children of heavenly kingdom no more belong to the world. Therefore, whosoever believes on Jesus as the Lord God and the Saviour is the one that gave the pledge to serve the Lord Jesus Christ, and obey his word as the people of Israel standing before Joshua.

        As the LORD God delivered Abraham form the nation that was worshipping idols to make him multiplied, he also wants to be glorified through us making us bring forth fruits. Jesus spoke unto his disciples of this just before he was arrested to be crucified:

 “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”(john 15:8-14)

          Yeah! Whosoever believes on the Lord Jesus Christ in all the heart, and born of the Spirit to be the son of God has already pledged before God to keep the new commandments. All the creation are the witnesses for their pledge as a great stone was the witness for the people of Israel. The commandment given unto us is nothing that is difficult to obey. The old commandment given unto the people of Israel was transferred into the body of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross, and was nailed to the cross (Col. 2:14). As Jesus said, my yoke is easy, and my burden is light, the new commandment is very easy to obey with joy whenever we wants to, and it is a very beautiful commandment to keep.

        In the Old Testament days of the law of God, no one could obey the law, for the love of God had not been poured unto the heart of man through the Holy Ghost. But nowadays, the children of God can love God as well as the neighbors in the Holy Ghost, since the Holy Ghost came to the earth after Christ died and rose again. Therefore, only they that have the Spirit of God can bear the fruit of love.

          Apostle Paul testified unto the saints of Corinthians of the great grace given unto saying,

“For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not

many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

That no flesh should glory in his presence.

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.”(1Cor. 1:26-31)

        Yeah! Our pride is only the Lord Jesus Christ that gave us such a great grace unto miserable sinners; therefore, they that understand such a great grace are to love them that are born of God fervently (1John 5:1, 1Pet. 1:22) How they that received such a great grace can despise the children of God, and be jealous and hate them unto murder.

      The Lord Jesus Christ spoke unto the church that fell away:

 “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”(Rev. 2:4,5)
