The Meditation of the Week: Psalms 11:1-7

Text: Genesis 18:23-19: 28

The Word of God: Judgment of God unto Sodom, and present evil world

           When God came to Abraham with two angels in the shape of  man, he said that through the two angels who came together, Sodom would be  judged by fire. God spoke to Abraham as if he were his friend. ”  Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;?”

Jesus Himself spoke to His disciples.

” Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 15:14)

            Abraham continued to live in the land of Canaan, which God had promised to give him and his children of Israel, but his nephew Lot went into the land where God’s judgment would come. He was  seeking the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and  the pride of life. When Abraham heard that God had sent two angels to judge Sodom, he thought of his nephew Lot, saying, ” Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?“

          Later on, when the people of Israel were doing much worse  sins than the Sodomites, the LORD God spoke through the prophet Ezekiel of what was the sin of Sodom:

” As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.

49Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

50And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.” ( Ezekiel 16: 48-50)

           The city we live in, the land of America, as well as  homeland, Korea and even Israel, are doing what Sodom did in the past.

           Abraham is a model of a spiritual Christian living in a spiritual kingdom of God not compromising with  the world, and Lot is a model of carnal Christian who is saved but follows the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.

Abraham is also a figure of a Christian who denies himself and follows the Lord in a narrow path taking up his cross, and Lot is a figure of a corrupted Christian who goes into a wide path unto destruction.

          When the two angels came to Sodom, Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. He was already sitting in some honorable position in Sodom. When he saw the two angels he would have felt some ominous thing. He got up and greeted them and bowed his face to the ground. As they were staying in Lot’s house,  the men of the city, Sodom, both old and young, surrounded the house and said to Lot, “ Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.”

All of them must be gays.

           At that time, we are able to see how  much homosexuality among the people of Sodom, regardless of age, was  prevailed. Also, the world we live in, including the city, Los Angeles especially West LA. Even some people in Hollywood are  proudly calling themselves living in Sodom without God, and blasphemy God by saying “We are in Hollywood in the belly of the Beast.”

           When Lot heard the angel’s words and said to his sons-in-law who married his daughters, God’s judgment came on, and  said to them  to go out of the city, but they considered it a joke. Nowadays,  most people who live in the world  also the judgment of God coming as a joke. God, remembering Abraham’s prayer, urged Lot through two angels to rescue him and told him to get up quickly with his wife and two daughters. But his wife, who lived belong to the world, turned back and became a salt pillar. Even in the midst of judgment,  she looked back  thinking about what she had left behind.

         Finally, God sent  sulfur and fire from heaven on Sodom and Gomorrah like rain, and overturned the city with the inhabitants, and the things that grow on the earth. In the Dead Sea area where Sodom was judged by fire and sulfur, there are still sulfur that had fallen, and when it was lit, it would puncture a stainless steel spoon. A long time ago, KBS the team of the program, “I want to know it” showed the scene.

           Apostle Peter gave a warning message about what the flood judgment at Noah’s time and the judgment of God at Sodom meant:

” And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

6And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

7And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: “(2 Peter 2 : 5-7)

             God spoke through  Apostle Paul about what would happen before the judgment of the world that had become like Sodom in the future:

” But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. “(1 Thess. 5: 1 – 3)

          But Christians who are spiritually awake and not in the darkness of the world’s sin, shall know the judgment to come in advance as Apostle Paul testified:

”  4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, “(I Thessalonians 5: 1-9)
