The contemplation of the week: Psalm 94:1-23

Text: II Peter 3:1-18

Theme of the Word: Look for and hasting unto the coming  of the day of God

         God has long spoken of His own set days through His prophets and apostles. As the apostle Peter was going to leave the world to be united with the Lord, he appealed to all the children of God, including us, to look and hasting unto the coming of the day of God. The Day of God he speaks is testifying to the final judgment of this world that will take place when God will end 7,000 years of the world at the end of his millennial kingdom. In other words, he witnesses  of  the new heavens and the new earth that will continue to be connected through the day of God, and what will happen on that day before the new heavens and the new earth wherein dwells righteousness that will last for ever and ever. The day of God is the final day is going to happen three thousand years later from his time. It is also going to come to pass thousand years so from now on our time.  Search the two days of the Lord before us, we shall understand why we should look and hasting unto the coming of the day of God.

        Firstly, God has spoken of the day of Christ, for his children who were predestined to be adopted unto God in Christ before the foundation of the world:

” For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.“(I Thessalonians 4: 16-18)

            The Apostle Paul testified in many words about his desire and faith in this day of Christ:

”  Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ….. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:….. Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. “(1 Cor. 1: 8, Philippians 1: 6, Philippians 2:16)

         That’s right! The day of Christ testified by the Apostle Paul, is the day when body of the born-again Christians meet the Lord as his bride.  This  is This day is the day of hope for all Christians to receive the glory of crowns, and at the same time for them to be judged according to what they have done in Christ.

           The second day in the Bible is the day of the Lord (Jehovah), the day of revenge for all the people of the world as well as for His chosen nation, who have refused to accept the grace given to all through the Lord Jesus Christ for the past two thousand years It is a day of wrath for the world of sin and judgment. On this day he spoke through the prophets and the apostles:

” Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. 2Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? 3I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there wasnone with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. 4For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. 5And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. 6And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth. “(Isaiah 63: 1-6)

             The Lord Jesus  has given the Jews a long time of two thousand years since they slaughtered Jesus on the cross cruelly rejecting him along with  enormous insults and persecutions, most of them still not believe Him and united with the world. So God  proclaimed a day of revenge for the Jews.

          The LORD God  spoke through the prophet Joel that he would judge all the nations of the world who are gathered together to fight the Lord Jesus Christ, who will come again, as well as the day of revenge for the people of Israel:

 ” Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;

2A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

3A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.

4The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.

5Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.

6Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness “(Joel 2: 1-6).

       Apostle John testified of the scene of the fulfilling the prophesy  in the Holy Spirit in his Revelation:

” And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.

17And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. 18By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.” (Revelation 9: 16-18)

            God will send all kinds of famines in the midst of the Great Tribulation to the evil world, but they will not repent, but they rather blasphemy against God. Lord showed the apostle John the scene of Jesus’ final judgment as the king of kings, the Lord of the Lords, to  judge all the nations even though the Lord had given the opportunity for the Jews and all nations to repent for seven years. The Church, the bride of Christ, who is already translated having immortal and incorruptible body shall come down with the Lord to help judgment with him after their wedding ceremony with Lamb of God:

  “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

12His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

13And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

14And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

16And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. 17And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.“(Revelation 19: 11-18)

         Now the only remaining day is “The day of God”, which the apostle Peter testifies. During the seven thousands history of the world, God has been long suffering toward the people that never believe in him as a day for thousand years. Finally  he is going to burn the heavens and earth with fire to make the new heavens and new earth. Prophet Isaiah prophesied of the thingd to happen in the day of God: ;

” And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.  ” (Isaiah 34: 4 )

           At the end of the Millennium, the Apostle John testified of all the people who are to be judged by fire:

” And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

9And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

10And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.“(Rev. 20: 7-10)

         Here we must know why the Apostle Peter is telling us to look forward to the coming of the day of God  striving ourselves to be found in peace and blamelessness. Since the church of Christ, the bride of Christ, has worn forever and ever with immortality and incorruption, it shall be with Christ, its husband all the way through the day of Judgment, Millennium and the eternity to the New Heavens and new earth with righteousness. This is the reason why Apostle Peter encouraged us to look and hasting unto the coming of the day of God.
