Meditations of the Week: Psalm 91:1-16

Text: Psalm 46:1-11

Speech title: Our Refuge and Sole Ruler, the Lord Jesus Christ

    Psalm 46 is about the Lord Jesus Christ, the Sole ruler who will come soon as the Lord of Lords and King of Kings at the end of the Great Tribulation, after the regenerated Christians who belong to the Church of God, the bride of Christ, has been raptured. It is also about the God of Jacob, who is our refuge in the world we live in.

       When the Lord Jesus Christ returns to the earth at the end of the world, the Church, the bride of Christ, who was raptured, will come down and judge the world and even the angels together with the Lord, then enjoy a thousand-year honeymoon with the Lord on earth where they suffered all their lives. King David testified of this in the Holy Spirit:

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (Psalm 23:5 KJV)

        The earth will pass away, the mountains will be moved to the midst of the sea, and the sea will roar at the Lord’s coming. In that time a great unimaginable earthquake will occur, as they will be incomparable to the earthquakes we have heard of our days.

        During this time the city of Jerusalem, where the Lord Jesus Christ is enthroned, will not be shaken because God is there. Just before the Lord Jesus Christ is about to return, all the Gentile nations will attack Jerusalem, but the Israelites who dwell in the refuge of the God of Jacob will be protected

Verse 10 says, Be still, and know that I am God: This is the same word given to the Israelites standing before the Red Sea during their Exodus. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. (Psalm 46:10 KJV)

       Israel, who received the promise to become the priestly nation of earth through Abraham, has been hated by all the foreign nations and has been protected in the midst of their suffering even to now in the refuge given by their God of Jacob. All nations of the world will gather to destroy Israel at the Battle of Armageddon near the end of the tribulation. But the Lord Jesus Christ will come from heaven to break the bows, split their spears in two and burn down the chariots of Gentile nations, causing the wars to cease on the face of the earth.

        The prophet Zechariah foresaw this scene long ago in the Holy Spirit:

¶ Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light. ¶ And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one. (Zechariah 14:1-9 KJV)

       Saints who have been born again by the Holy Spirit do not fear the prophetic words of Zechariah or the great sight of the Lord of Judgment returning through the opening of the heavenly gates in Revelation 19, but rather give thanks and praise to God who judges and avenges the world for us.

       Earthquakes happen after the winds. The people of the world call it is a natural disaster, but it is God’s work. When God is present, there is wind, earthquake, and fire. After that, the voice of God is heard. All of these things happened before Elijah heard the small still voice of God. When God appeared in the book of Job, God’s voice was heard in the midst of the whirlwind.

       As the earthquake is severely occurring, we must see the seasonal words recorded in the Book of Revelation:

¶ And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. (Revelation 16:17-21 KJV)

        Even after witnessing earthquake destroying the islands, and great hailstones falling from the sky, people refuse to repent.

God said the thoughts and imaginations of the hearts of all who lived on earth during the days of Noah were only ever evil. Even back then, no one bothered to repent and blasphemed God up until their last breath as they were all flooded out to death.

      God’s people will finally praise God, when God reigns on earth as the Sole King. To this the psalmist continues to testify in the Holy Spirit:

¶ To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth. He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet. He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah. ¶ God is gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding. God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness. (Psalm 47:1-8 KJV)

     When all of God’s judgments are over and the earth is renewed, the restored remnant of Israel will be the priests over all the Gentiles on earth:

The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted. (Psalm 47:9 KJV)

      The brides of Christ who came down to earth with the Lord will become joint heirs with Christ and rule the world with Him for a thousand years. After that, we will live in the eternal city of New Jerusalem and work together with Christ to fill all things eternally. The Apostle Paul testified of the church: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. (Ephesians 1:22-23 KJV)
